For me - I would loose interest in my high heels if I could not wear a skirt or a dress. I prefer my legs out there, and the shoes and my legs look much better like that. If I wear jeans with heels it is very very very reluctantly - so hardly ever happens. I almost never leave home in flats/ low heels anymore so I mostly in a skirt/dress.

My heels are en extension of my legs and need to be shown so I reckon I would loose interest in I had to hide my legs/ankles.

Similarly if I was limited to ankle boots/knee boots etc I would definitely stop.

Great minds think alike! My love for wearing heels increased exponentially after I went all in on wearing skirts and dresses on my outings, and I haven't looked back, nor would I want to as I'm having more fun than ever. If I stuck with wearing pants and jeans, I would've gotten bored and stopped, so I'm glad I broadened my horizons by adopting skirts to my wardrobe. However, I'm perfectly fine wearing flats (mainly sandals in spring and summer) while boots (ankle, knee and thigh) work great with shorter skirts.

    Hiya JeffB,

they'll be fine for comfort. I wear heaps of pumps all with toes around that same shape. You get great toe cleavage and they are similar to other pumps.

Interesting. I'll admit that I've always been partial to rounded toes when it comes to pumps for comfort. However, perhaps I might change my mind and try a pair of pointed toes.

Yes, it can make for an unnerving experience, but, you'll come to understand that the exact opposite holds true, that practically NO ONE cares about what you wear on your feet. As long as you carry yourself properly, behave calmly and cooly, like you belong where you are like everyone else, you can indeed get away with wearing what you like.

I have owned a pair of Steve Madden Barbb mules for about a year. I have enjoyed them enough that I wished I could buy them in another color. Unfortunately, like most shoes I buy, it's a non-current model, and pretty much unavailable anywhere.

However, somebody must think they're still stylish enough, because there are knockoffs aplenty, in many, many colors. I hesitate to use the word "knockoff," because the Real McCoy wasn't all that expensive to begin with, but the knockoffs are super cheap, and copy the style in every respect save one--they are not leather. But I decided what the heck, for less than 20 bucks, why not? I've been searching for the real thing for quite some time with no luck.

As it turns out, they aren't that bad. Not quite as comfortable as the genuine article, but not bad, and they look and feel way more expensive than 20 bucks. I bought them in a sort of rose-tinged nude patent.

Right after my knockoffs arrived, I found the real Steve Maddens in what they call "bone."  I think they are slightly darker than what I think of as "bone," but that's ok. They wanted $65 for them. I thought about it. Then suddenly one day, the price dropped to $29. I jumped. I soon discovered why the price dropped--they are slightly damaged, but it doesn't bother me much. Not for that price. I'm a little irritated with the seller for not disclosing, but I'll let it ride.

The pair on the left are my original black ones, worn and enjoyed for a year. The middle pair are the knockoffs, and the right pair are the genuine Steve Maddens in bone. I guess I'll have to wait a few months to give a full report on how the knockoffs fare in the real world. It's a little chilly for that right now, even for me!

Most interesting, miro. Cool shoes! Just one question, when it comes to washing your footwear, do you use the Normal or Delicate cycle?  :giggle:

these are beautiful pumps. I like the lining in a deep pink - or perhaps a dark rose kind of colour?

They look like the same style f shoe except for a heel height variation.

Love to see some pics on your feet? They do look delicious.

NB... random thought... you could wear one shoe from each pair so you walking with one 3 inch heel, and one 4 inch heel.... just like Marilyn Munroe did to get her signature walk - or was that just a myth?

    Cheers

Thanks for the kind words. Forgot to mention I chose a rounded toe on both pairs for the sake of comfort. As for pics, they'll be coming soon. Oh, yeah, I recently ordered a pair of three inchers in black patent. As for that Marilyn walk, I'll pass on that. HA!

Marilyn Monroe famously said 'Give a girl the right pair of shoes and she'll conquer the world'.   (Bit sexist that, but probably true!)   She also said that she trimmed 1/4" off one of her heels to induce a wiggle as she walked.   I would not recommend Jeff to try with a full inch height difference between the two heels - he would probably end-up walking in circles!   :giggle:

    You're probably right! Double HA!

I'm itching to buy a new pair of heels.

I have a pair of wedges I have been eyeing for a few months - they have come down in price very nicely and are now about £15. the heel is about 5.5" and has a platform. its wide fit too, so that's a plus! I have a few other wedges - none exactly the same as this one, but somewhat close in style.

On the other hand, I just saw a stunning pair of knee high boots... stiletto with pointy toe - just gorgeous... priced at £36... Now, I have another pair, very similar - differences are small - like round toe VS pointy toe, half zip VS full zip... but pretty much the same boot.  £36 is also more than I was hoping to spend (and more that I have ever spent on heels...).
another factor is we are coming into winter now... a reason to buy more boots and not a summery wedge???

I know most folks will tell me just to get the boots probably... and yet I am still putting it out there for your thoughts and comments.

    Thanks!

To add my two cents worth (factored for inflation), but I like the boots more. The sandals are nice, but are limited in terms of how long you can wear them during the course of a calendar year and what you can wear them with, whereas the boots can be worn with a myriad of outfits, skirts, dresses, tight jeans and can be a welcome staple from September through March.

  8. I don't know if I'm the first person here to order from this company, but I recently bought a pair of heels from Shoes of Prey. For anyone unfamiliar with the company, SOP offers customized pumps, flats, boots, sandals, even sneakers in a myriad of sizes, widths, styles, heel heights and colors, all in genuine leather, and all for fairly reasonable prices. In my case, the shoes I bought were $149 apiece and arrived at my door a shade over two weeks after I placed the order. What you see below (pardon my less than stellar photography) are black leather pumps, the first picture with three inch heels and the second with four inchers, both with red leather linings and tan soles. The fit for my selected size (13 wide) was perfect and they felt great on my feet, and while I haven't been out in them yet (hopefully soon), I have no doubt I'll enjoy wearing them. My long range goal is have the SOP three inchers replace the Payless "Karmen" pumps, I mean, why keep manmade shoes when I can have real leather ones instead? Enjoy the pictures!

Interesting article. I don't know why shoes have to be gendered at all, whether flats or heels or in between. Lots of shoes are unisex - sneakers, loafers, oxfords, and many boots - so the world should start getting used to the idea that guys can wear heeled pumps or ballet flats, too. We prove on this forum that most guys can look pretty good in heels.

    Steve

When it comes to heels, it's a VERY old bias that's hard for people to get past. Some do, but most don't. That doesn't bother me.

balletboot. I'm sure you have heard women and and young women say things like./ I hate that the fact he walks better in heels than I ever could./ or his figure and dress code puts me to shame, and women that seen you wear your style. a week later they are wearing the same style that you where wearing last week. many heeling wearing men have said that women who spotted them in public wearing heels have then been seen wearing the same style of shoe or boot that the guy was wearing last time. I don't know why women make everything into a competition.

I've also had women comment to me on how I wear heels better than them. However, it has to be taken into consideration that there are women whom, for whatever reason, rarely, if ever bother with heels, so they're surprised at seeing men do what they probably can't, or can't do well. As for the competition angle, if a woman feels she needs to top me, A MAN when it comes to clothes I wasn't born to wear and don't have a fraction as much experience with as women have, that means I'm doing things right when it comes to displaying my sense of style and women acknowledge my skill by wanting to compete with me.
