  2. @mlroseplant you think your pictures are all the same because you have a set-up that works so you use it over and over. I have a set-up that I use to show me in my heels because I am lazy and it works. The distance and lighting work well there, so why change it @CrushedVamp nice photo. Make postcards and sell it to the summer tourist. You get sunrises and I get sunsets. Each provide an array of vibrant colors.

You mean you didn't get the leggings in pink with red hearts? I have three types: thermal for sports, soft fleece for home when it's under 60 degrees, and thin ones when it is too cold for shorts. My home leggings are mostly dark black, gray, blue, but I got a rose colored one in a 4-pack and a wild thin one. I bet I could sell leggings to your neighbors if they had fish, lobster, or clams print on them.

  5. You shouldn’t beat yourself up about your photos - nothing wrong with them at all. You present a very nice image of a guy wearing heels and that’s all to the good. The world needs more of such images. I just get hung up on the challenge of trying to create art house or magazine style images because that is what I do and the notion of trying to do this with heels appeals to me.
  6. I'm not really beating myself up about the photographs I post on here, it's just that they're beginning to all feel the same. I suppose that's because basically, they are all the same. There are several ways to go about improving that, but at this point, I'm kind of set in my ways, and it's not all that important to me. And if I must be honest, I still feel a little bit silly as a grown man taking pictures of himself.
  7. It’s quite funny seeing American politicians grumbling about how you never see those big American pick-up trucks being sold over here, or on the continent! As though trade barriers were the reason. Try driving one of those down an English country lane, or through the mediaeval streets of our towns, or finding a parking space almost anywhere and you quickly see the real reason!
  8. It’s a nice capture. Interesting clouds. Theres a saying amongst photographers that the best camera is the one you have with you. And it’s true. i would love to take some arty shots of heels. It would be quite a departure from my usual work and so I have to think through how I’d do it, and be prepared to put in the time and mess up quite a few. I’m quite good at capturing the mood and feel of a place and good at portraiture - I need to work out what I’m saying or want to say about heels.
  9. Pick-ups are not at all common in the UK as 'family' vehicles, rather than for trade use, although my wife's (female) cousin does have one. I have a VW Passat diesel estate and can get a lot inside (such as a tall freezer) or on the roof rack. Only yesterday I collected a full 8 x 4 sheet of 25mm plywood (very heavy) from the timber merchant and took it on the roof rack to my stepson's house for some work there (window cills, suitably edged with a moulding). Well roped-down, transporting such an item presents few difficulties; I have safely carried even 4.8m timber - a little longer than the car - in that way. What is NOT fun is trying to load e.g. plasterboard single-handed, especially if there is a wind.
  10. I am no photographer by any means, but have taken some classes on taking better photos and have toyed around with cameras on tripods with self-timers. What I have found is that I can get some nice photos if I really try, but it is a huge time-suck because it takes 4-5 tries before I get a worthy picture. Now, I take a lot of photos with my Iphone-14. Yeah… don’t laugh. But what I found is, I tend to take more good photos, but ONLY BECAUSE I ALWAYS HAVE IT ON ME. It is not so much that it is an excellent camera, but really the law of big numbers. Take a ton of pictures and a few will inevitably come out good. Here is one. I was just out on my daily morning walk where I pass by this peninsula off our island. I snapped a picture and thought nothing of it. It was not until I sent it to my wife (a skilled photographer) when she said we should print that on our plotter and put the picture in the living room. It was a 100% mistake on taking that. I paused in my hike, snapped the picture and kept walking not even realizing how the sky framed the island of trees, but it was just taken at the right time; a hit or miss thing when you live where we have the largest tidal swings in the world. (I think it came out good, but you better photographers can certainly be the judge. Just keep in mind it was JPEG optimized to get it on this site). For what little my opinion is worth @mlroseplant I think you take great pictures. But I also see things for what they are. It’s a chatroom about high heels where the heels only need to be shown, it is not like this is an improve-your-photography type of chatroom, or like you are using the photo to sell your heels to the highest bidder. Quality of the photo should match the reason for taking it and I think you do that quite well!
  11. I know what you mean, I find what other wives allow interesting as well, albeit, just interesting in in no way judgmental on my side of things. Wearing leggings, or as I call them “soft pants” is fine by her, but as much as both of us love high heels, I doubt she would let me wear them. I do not wear dresses, but if I could and did, it would be sweater dresses for most of the winter. For now, I am content to just let her wear them. My wife unfortunately flip-flops though where your wives seem to be pretty consistent. Even with the leggings her and my daughters have long gotten used too, she flipped out when I bought “base layer pants” that were women’s. I had bought a pair of men’s base layer pants, liked them, but they had the front flap, and well, too much information here I know, but I am a haul-down-the-front-when-going-to-the-bathroom type of guy, not a use-the-flap sort of-guy. Her ex-husband did, so when I bought the women’s style because they lacked the front flap, she was incensed. For me it is how they look. If I wear the men’s style outside, the flap makes it look like I am wearing long-handled underwear outside. If I wear no flap women’s style without a front flap, it looks like I am wearing tight black pants. I really do not see what it matters, but she flip-flops on what she is agreeable with.
  12. What surprises many where I live is that I do not drive a pickup. About 90% of the vehicles here are pickups of some kind. If there is a car, it typically is the fisherman’s wife that is driving here. We are atypical because we BOTH have Honda CRV’s. But I find them to be practical. They get a lot better gas mileage, pack other people into them better, and have four-wheel drive. It really is surprising what you can fit into one too when the seats are folded flat and not have to worry about rain, snow or the item blowing out of the back if it was in a truck. Sheet goods like plywood and sheet insulation cannot go in the back of my car, but I also tend to buy those things in bulk so the lumber companies deliver for free anyway. Usually, I can get what I order in a few hours' time so waiting for delivery is not a huge deal. Fishermen have offered me the use of their trucks, but I am not a borrower per se. I have the worst luck and might hit a deer or something while borrowing it. I should buy a trailer and tow it behind my car for plywood and bigger things, but atlas I just get by for now. But with my neighbors it is far more than us both driving cars that make them wonder who the heck moved in next door to them. We are not ones to assimilate well!

  14. I am only concern in what I am NOW calling MTH or Measured True Height = Heel - Platform. Like today, I got my "Elvis" on with my Blue Suede Shoes. JS blue suede stiletto booties, almost 5 inch heel and little less than 1 inch platform or about 4 MTH. I NEED 3.5 to 4.5 inch MTH for my body, so that the measurement I look for. I had some 6.5 inch wedges but they also had a 2 inch platform. Great for reaching the top shelf of my cabinets or watching a parade.
  15. Worn them twice, once for 14 hours straight, even got a 'damn, you're rocking some nice booties. But they are just plain janes with faux suede uppers.
  16. My wedge collection has shrunk, mostly from me wearing them out and not being able to find suitable replacements. Decent high heels are hard to find is this flood of sneakers.
  17. Hi HinH, Glad you're able to enjoy wearing sandals. If I'm correct you winter over in AZ. Here in upstate NY it's boots and more boots along with warm clothes. Went a whole month with the temp not getting above 20*F and lots of snow too boot (LOL) no pun intended. I been wearing fleece lined tight and leggings with my boots. In 2 or 3 months we'll be able to wear sandals and skorts here. Happy Heeling, bluejay
  18. I hadn’t realised how much higher my heels were, in absolute terms, with my size 45/46 boots, but of course that makes sense - so you with you size 37 and @mlroseplant with his 39/40 and me with my size are all talking about roughly the same thing in terms of angle, proportions and degrees of difficulty. It makes for a useful shorthand 12cm is 12cm for all of us
  19. Before my times here on hhplace I never even measured my heels. Still I got in contact with the "heel height in standard size", because all manufacturers claim a certain heel height which doesn't seem to change with the shoe size. It's very prominent on some Louboutin models where it's even a part of the name (like Pigalle 120 or Hot Chick 130). Then after our discussions here I started measuring some of my heels (size 37) and found out they're a little bit below of what the manufacturer claims. So over all the years I didn't even know my personal heel height but got a good feeling for the "heel height in standard size" 😀 What does TH stand for? In my mind I also always subtract the platform height. Sure, a huge platform can make it more difficult to walk on uneven ground but for the steepness it's irrelevant.
  20. They look great, rugged heels that work in most any terrain/occasion
  21. Yeah, I've pretty much quit caring about absolute heel height these days, and tend to focus on TH, as you call it. Having said that, I actually own at least two pair of 15 cm heels (I'd have to look), and several 14 cm, but they all have giant platforms, so that doesn't really count for me as much as it used to. One thing about giant platforms is they do make you considerably taller than a single sole of the same height.
  22. Well, shut my mouth! That's a new one on me. I've never had the heel actually measure higher than advertised. Had the opposite plenty of times. What exactly is the problem with wearing jeans? Hem length?
  23. Nice sandals there. I think we are down to mere weeks until I can wear my sandals again without looking super strange (too late for that, I know). My personal wedge collection is down to 10, and I don't have any that I would call high. I've still got a couple of giant platforms left, but my sensibilities have changed. I either wear low heels, like the pair pictured below (a throwback to the old drain pipe days!), or I tend to choose wedges with relatively narrow heels. I should probably look for some more like these black ones. I am down to my last pair in this style. They don't last forever.
  24. Get with it HinH. 😁 I wear my knee highs over my pants all the time too. Today it was my black faux suede Jessica Simpson knee highs over my size 8 jeans. The JS knee highs are black faux suede with 4 inch TH heels. @mlroseplant My new unit of measure, using measuring instruments is TH which is heel height minus platform.

  26. All, A few more pics of me in wedge sandals. Top is a hybrid look of a man’s polo shirt with cuffed skinny jeans a nice shopping outfit or just going out in the evening. The second is shorts with a regular tee shirt. I did wear this to a picnic where I was invited and encouraged to wear my heels. The point is to enjoy what you’ve bought. They’re not tree ornaments. HinH Here’s I am in cuffed skinny jeans with my 9W “Leggy” sling back wedges which have 5.5”/16cm heels. I have worn these wedges many times with skinny jeans and bootcut jeans as well as with shorts and dresses. Have also taken them on trips more often than not.
  27. Thank you @HappyinHeels Yes I like wearing my boots over my jeans. I’ve always liked the classic style boots - both stilettos and chunky heels. Clean lines and simple styling and worn with jeans. For a guy who likes to wear heels, my tastes are really rather conservative.
  28. Hey all. Got these platform sandals from, of all places, the Walmart website which could be useful for larger sizes. Chose a neutral color for more outfit flexibility. What surprised me was the advertised 5.9”/15 cm heel height, typically measured in size 8/EU 38, actually measured 8.0”/20cm!! That rules out wearing with jeans for day trips or maybe to a picnic. They do however do look fine with a dress or skirt. This is not a brand I was previously familiar with. Just be alert certain brands may be higher than you were led to believe. These sandals appear to be sturdy and well-made.
  29. Shyheels, Saw all the chatter then saw the photo of your knee high boots. They certainly look nice and I would consider something like this. I’ve never worn boots tucked into jeans like this rather have worn knee high boots with dresses. These look great on you. I don’t have flat sole boots like these but the overall look of your boots is classic indeed. HinH
