I split my baby toe while at university in the early 70's and it snowed. Snow was rare there, but I couldn't put my foot into a shoe, so had to go barefoot for about two weeks. At least the cold kept the swelling down. Moral of the story, stiletto spikes can split bones. Also, never tickle anyone when they have stilettos and you are barefooted.

It is easy to confuse where people are from on a forum but you are thinking of another member of this forum who is from the Midwest. Like you I am from the East Coast as well faithfully watching the waves of the ocean crash into shore endlessly as I write this. But living on an island, there are lots of fisherman so lots of old skiffs and old antique outboards sitting in barns. Sadly, I do not remember the man’s name. I never was good with names anyway and this was back in 1995, so 31 years ago. He was probably 50 back then and may be departed now. I know he had a bout with cancer, was devoted to church, and loved to carve wood. I sold him a whole truckload of Basswood for the endeavor back then. That is about as much as I remember… I said in a previous post that “it typically warms up to snow”, and that might seem odd but it is so true. A lot of times it will be cold, but for a snowstorm jump from 5 degrees to thirty when the storm blows in. Not on this one, it is 2 degrees with a gale blowing and heavy bouts of snow. We are in for a long, hard blow tonight. I hope the power holds out, but we are pretty good in that regard. The wind blows so hard, so often out here that the power company has got the system hardened against wind. I remember one New Years night it was about -20 degrees (f) and blowing 20 mph and the ex-wife and I were out to a dance hall. She was wearing high heels and not something she was used too. Her feet hurt in them and so she took them off, and as we went to go home, she walked from the venue to the car, in -20 degree weather, in a plowed but snowy parking lot in just her pantyhose covered feet. I thought that was pretty tough! I know everyone on this forum would have been wearing their high heels. Was it ever cold that year!

I am sure sucking rocks lately at practicing in high heels. This cold weather has made me very unmotivated.

Here, up north in Canada, we have been beyond cold! Overnight, it has been any where from -30 C to -40 C with the windchill. And it ain't stopping till we hit February. So another week of this cold for us.
-
Who says you can't wear you stilettos with your pajamas? Have you heard of battery (USB port) warmers? They are all the rage.
-
I hear ya for sure. I have to go out one more time to deal with the snow tonight, but at least I am wearing my leggings and tall Hunter boots.
-
Oh, I’m not. I’ve done some nice writing actually. It’s been really chilly and damp in the mornings and my focus has been more in hot coffee and building a fire, and staying in my still-warm pyjamas instead of putting on cold jeans and my stiletto boots!
-
I am a member of the anitque outboard club as well, aomci.org. I am from the east coast so not many old outboards left out here. Have often dreamed of roaming through boathouses/barns on midwest lake houses though! My swap meet went well yesterday, many more attended that I had figured... I could only hang out outside for about five or ten minutes at a time before having to go back inside for a bit, but my legs were not frozen! I am wearing my leggings again today for pushing the darn snow, love wearing my gloss black Hunter refined tall boots over my levis though, great for snow removal chores. Do you remember the name of the guy who was president of the local AOMCI chapter? So true.

Don't be too hard on yourself buddy

That’s a good age to stop. I’ve never seen a 111 year old who could convincingly carry off short shorts. They try, but there’s just something missing …
-
@mlroseplant I'm in my 70's and still can rock the short shorts. I think I'll stop at 111 years old.

I have been appallingly slack this past week and hardly practiced at all in my challenge heels - or indeed any heels at all. I’ve been getting up and building a fire and then plunging straight into my novel writing, not bothering to get dressed for work as I usually do. I keep telling myself I’ll just finish this section and put in my jeans and stiletto boots but somehow it just slips my mind. I really must get my focus back and out of these slovenly habits …

Admittedly, there is a fine line between self confidence/empowerment and self awareness. As I get older, I question myself more and more about my fashion choices, particularly shorts. Through a combination of dumb genetic luck, and a little hard work (diet/exercise), I do feel I can still pull it off. For how much longer, I do not know. However, there is a lady in my town whom I've known for decades, and recently got to know a little bit better through a book club we were both in. She wears shorts, though not as short as mine, and not with heels. I was putting two and two together, thinking about who her children are, and who her parents were, and come to find out this woman is 67 years old. 67, and still has very nice looking legs and cute feet. Admittedly, that is super rare, but maybe there is hope for me.

I suppose if those who have actually met Steve in person can't get hold of him, then neither can I. Still, I suppose it only takes a couple of minutes to dash off an email saying, "Thinking of you." What's the worst than can happen? Here in Iowa, we missed most of the snow, and it looks like we have about 24 more hours of this super cold stuff, then we return back to a blistering 20º (-7º C) for highs for a few days. It's going to feel like a heat wave!
-
Yeah, it is cold here too. The coldest day so far this winter at negative 6 below zero (F) as I type this, or negative 21 degrees (C). Other than the cold water under the kitchen sink freezing, nothing major to report from the cold. They are saying we are going to get slammed with 20 inches of snow (50 cm), but lately they like to hype things up so we shall see. I don’t expect more than a foot of snow really. But surprisingly it is not going to warm up to snow, staying cold and windy for the duration of the storm. We got our new furnace on Friday so it is nice to no longer be without heat and having to rely on small electric heaters to get by. But despite the new furnace; yes, I do have my leggings on as I type this. It was nice to hear you like antique outboard motors. I once worked with a guy who was the president of the local chapter regarding an antique outboard motor club. I am not sure if they are still active or not, but with so many fishermen here, there are a lot of skiffs. And fishermen… they do not throw anything away. I mean nothing! I bet half these barns here have antique outboard motors in them. They would never sell them, but sadly never do anything with them either.

I only know them because of their height chart that we already discussed. Of the two I only know Fuss-Schuhe, I have a few heels from them. I can recommend them, they're good quality at a fair price.

The High Heeled Ruminations Of Melrose Plant

Sure interesting, but not really my thing. I'm more for simple and smaller things. -
I had my leggings on under my levis at my antique outboard outdoor swap meet today in 10F weather, they truly helped.

Yes, I know that he sold the business and that his wife died a couple of years ago. We used to get together and show off our new heel purchases and go shopping at my area stores when he visited me. We used to correspond regularly but I have not heard from him in over a year now. I even tried to call him on his cell phone with no luck. Happy Heeling, bluejay
-
Not a fan either. Happy Heeling, bluejay
-
I still like to wear short-shorts in the summer with my heels. I feel very comfortable wearing those ensembles. Happy Heeling, bluejay

I like both pull on boots and those with zippers. The zip boots have a neater snugger fit around the ankle and calves, and while pull ons are necessarily looser around the ankle, if well fitting they still look quite sharp
-
No problem...I think we would be interested if she liked them. I for one need boots with a full zipper, pull on boots just doesn't work for me.
-
Sorry, I brought up the sock-boots. I never saw them before. I think they are something my wife would like, so I might surprise her with a pair for Valentine's Day. i respect everyone's opinion of them and I am in no way trying to be argumentative. I just could see where she would like them. But I won't bring them up ever again on here!! 🙂

It is kind of sad how often that happens to innovators of society: they have a wild idea that is outside the mainstream and act on it, and then... it fizzles and dies. Typically right before it is picked up again and goes big by some entity that really had no early stakes in the game. A great example is the McDonald brothers who made meals fast, but it was Kroc who bought them out and took their idea internationally with the McDonald's we know today. I do too, and almost always do when I write on here. If I am home and lounging, I typically have my "soft pants" on, or leggings on, as in they are not jeans like when I work, or work in jeans around the house. In the winter, I am in leggings 100% of the time, as they are under my jeans for warmth, or I am in the house lounging.
