Rob Posted September 5, 2005 Posted September 5, 2005 I just found this on the BBC web site: http://www.bbc.co.uk/dna/h2g2/A3724977 A reasonable article with some good advice, and not the usual "heels are bad for you" point of view that we normally see.
sendra45 Posted September 5, 2005 Posted September 5, 2005 well done for finding it and quite an unusual side of the BBC. It is good to see some advice for heels wearers, I only hope that more people see it, there is nothing worse than a naff high heel wearer. nigel The angels have the phonebox.
Shafted Posted September 5, 2005 Posted September 5, 2005 Wow, what a great article. Especially liked the part in the beginning that not all high heel wearers were women. Shafted, the boots that is! Dr. Shoe Posted September 6, 2005 Posted September 6, 2005 I couldn't have put it better myself. The author is obviously a keen heel wearer. Graduate footwear designer able to advise and assist on modification and shoe making projects.
new_look Posted September 6, 2005 Posted September 6, 2005 perhaps a keen male author? from that comment in the first paragraph
Dawn HH Posted September 7, 2005 Posted September 7, 2005 Rob:-) Congrats on finding that BBC article on the proper way to wear heels. There certainly is some great information there that we can all use, I'm sure. I like the fact that they acknowledge the fact that men wear heels also and not just women. It's a great and informative article. Now...if we can just put what it says into practice. Cheers--- Dawn HH High Heeled Boots Forever!
Bubba136 Posted September 7, 2005 Posted September 7, 2005 Yes, isn't it nice to see that some recognize that in addition to women, men are also wearing high heels. Being mentally comfortable in your own mind is the key to wearing heels in public.
Dawn HH Posted September 7, 2005 Posted September 7, 2005 Times are slowly changing in the favor of men wearing heels and people are aware, to a certain point, that the fact does exist. Men DO wear heels. The recognition is slow, but it is there. Cheers--- Dawn HH High Heeled Boots Forever!
J-Nation Posted September 8, 2005 Posted September 8, 2005 and don't forget more from the BBC on high heels broadcast Friday 9th Sept... http://www.bbc.co.uk/cgi-perl/whatson/prog_parse.cgi?FILENAME=20050909/20050909_1545_49700_55052_15
sendra45 Posted September 9, 2005 Posted September 9, 2005 Great Emma, thanks for pointing the programme out! I will tune in! The angels have the phonebox.
Bubba136 Posted September 9, 2005 Posted September 9, 2005 Living in the USA, I missed it. I've looked over the list of "Listen Again" on BBC 4 and didn't see it listed. Did I overlook it or is this one of the probrams that isn't archived for re-broadcast? Being mentally comfortable in your own mind is the key to wearing heels in public.
Rob Posted September 9, 2005 Author Posted September 9, 2005 Living in the USA, I missed it. I've looked over the list of "Listen Again" on BBC 4 and didn't see it listed. Did I overlook it or is this one of the probrams that isn't archived for re-broadcast? Hi Bubba, That's because the program hasn't been broadcast yet. In fact it's just starting now. You can listen live by clicking top right on this page: http://www.bbc.co.uk/radio4/
Bubba136 Posted September 9, 2005 Posted September 9, 2005 Thanks, listing as we speak....(as they say!) Being mentally comfortable in your own mind is the key to wearing heels in public.
J-Nation Posted September 10, 2005 Posted September 10, 2005 or if anyone wants to hear it that missed it first time round, you can catch it at your own convenience on http://www.bbc.co.uk/radio/aod/radio4_aod.shtml?radio4/engineering_my_sole
Shafted Posted September 11, 2005 Posted September 11, 2005 Interesting program. I would love to have heard the opinion of a back specialist though. Shafted, the boots that is! Bubba136 Posted September 12, 2005 Posted September 12, 2005 Here's another website that is just full of good information on shoes, high heels, history, etc.......if anyone is interested!!!! http://podiatry.curtin.edu.au/rus.html Being mentally comfortable in your own mind is the key to wearing heels in public.
Guest Posted September 14, 2005 Posted September 14, 2005 By the way, the BBC article initially linked is part of h2g2 - the hitch hikers guide to the galaxy, based on the book, tv, radio and film of the same name. All articles are written by the general public about anything they want and then possibly edited by moderators etc before going live into the main h2g2 database. It's much like the wikipedia. Bob.
Puffer Posted September 21, 2005 Posted September 21, 2005 The BBC Radio 4 programme referred to by Emma above ('Engineering my Sole') no longer appears to be available on a 'listen again' basis. If you click on the link she gave it mentions the prog but tries to connect you to a short story about rats! Is there any way of hearing this now - or can someone provide a synopsis of what was broadcast? Interestingly, by searching 'shoe', I found other archive progs on the BBC website that may be of interest and are still available, for example: http://www.bbc.co.uk/radio4/womanshour/2002_37_thu_03.shtml (2002 prog about high heel wearing) http://www.bbc.co.uk/radio4/hometruths/20040628_shoe_box.shtml (an interview with the proprietor of The Little Shoe Box in London) Puffer
Bubba136 Posted September 22, 2005 Posted September 22, 2005 I just listened to the radio interview about the Little Shoe Box. It's sad to think that such a well known land mark business is now gone. Glad I got at least two pair form them before they closed their doors. Being mentally comfortable in your own mind is the key to wearing heels in public.
Dawn HH Posted September 22, 2005 Posted September 22, 2005 Bubba136:-) Last I heard was that Dr. Shoe was going to try to revive some of those LSB styles. All has been quiet on the subject for a while from him. Cheers--- Dawn HH High Heeled Boots Forever!
Bubba136 Posted September 22, 2005 Posted September 22, 2005 I would guess there are some rather intense negotiations taking place as we speak. Being mentally comfortable in your own mind is the key to wearing heels in public.
Dawn HH Posted September 23, 2005 Posted September 23, 2005 You could be right on that, Bubba. Cheers--- Dawn HH High Heeled Boots Forever!
Bubba136 Posted September 23, 2005 Posted September 23, 2005 Besides, Dr. Shoe promised to keep us posted when he had something firm to tell us about. Being mentally comfortable in your own mind is the key to wearing heels in public.
Dawn HH Posted September 23, 2005 Posted September 23, 2005 That's true, Bubba. Cheers--- Dawn HH High Heeled Boots Forever!
