Bcup Posted April 27, 2014 Posted April 27, 2014 I just need a small hole so I can make the strap a little shorter with the buckle, what would be the best thing to use? Thanks for any suggestions.
Shafted Posted April 27, 2014 Posted April 27, 2014 Buy a leather punch. It is a handheld device much like a pair of pliers that has a rotary die cutter for punching different size holes in leather and leather like materials. It punches clean holes that look like they were meant to be there. Shafted, the boots that is! Bcup Posted April 28, 2014 Author Posted April 28, 2014 I have one of those but the smallest hole it makes is still way too big, I'm thinking like a big needle of some kind or ??
Shafted Posted April 28, 2014 Posted April 28, 2014 The only thing with that it that is it tends to extrude the hole rather than cut it. You could try heating the needle to red hot in a pair of pliers and pushing it through wile hot. Shafted, the boots that is! Dr. Shoe Posted April 28, 2014 Posted April 28, 2014 I've always used a needle pushed through from both directions. Graduate footwear designer able to advise and assist on modification and shoe making projects.
AZShoeNut Posted April 28, 2014 Posted April 28, 2014 My dad used to use a sharp awl on my mom's and sister's shoes and the results were typically decent. Life is short... Wear the bleeping shoes!
Jkrenzer Posted April 29, 2014 Posted April 29, 2014 A Japanese hole punch is really good if you have one. It works like a drill and I use it for modeling all the time. Holes from 1mms to 4 mms in 1/2 increments.
RonC Posted November 13, 2014 Posted November 13, 2014 Hammer and nail with a block of wood underneath has always worked for me.
