ilikekicks Posted February 2, 2014 Posted February 2, 2014 Im out and about with my sister in law. Shes in town from Colorado for 3 weeks. Vacation for her, away from the hubby. She needed the break. Being in ' downtime ' ( cant grow crops in the winter except inside the greenhouses.. but those arent meal-type-consumables presently ), I have time on my hands to just sit-n-shit or do as I please. She wanted to go out to get something nice to wear for this coming week as we are having one of those ' big-country-style-gamily-meeting-thingi's '. We went to a local Mall. It wasnt that busy for a Friday night. Weather might have had something to do with it.. who knows. She found an outfit but nothing in the lines of ' footware ' that she liked. We decided we would go the next day to one of the local stores in town that she shopped at many years ago when she lived here. I have never been to this place, dont know anything about it outside of ' they sell footware '. Its noontime, we walk in. She didnt recognize the person at the register or the woman working the floor. Im wearing my ' racing boots ' ( the ones from Aldo that are in one of the other stories here ). Were looking around and a woman asks if she can help her. So, they are gabbing and Im just looking in the isle that has things my size and the woman behind the counter gives me this really weird look. I hear my sister in law in the other isle gabbing with the other woman. I walk over to where they are. Their conversation comes to a very sudden halt when the store worker notices what Im wearing. " Your wearing womens boots? " ' Nope. ' " Whats on your feet then? " ' My boots. ' " Your saying those arent womens boots then? " ' Hmm.. Im a guy, their my boots.. I guess a woman could own a pair just like them. I dont think Aldo made just 1. ' and I chuckled, jokingly. And thats when the ' problem ' started. " Thats a sick sense of humor you have there! " ' No. Its not sick, just obvious. ' " Are you some kind of pervert or predator of something? " .. and the conversation is over. " Lets see. My boots, my feet, Im a guy. Your place of work, your employers rules, Im smart enough to find the door on my own. Have a good afternoon ". Im half way out the door, literally and physically and I hear my sister in law getting into it with the employee about her ' questions '. I see the gal behind the register already on the phone hitting the 911 numbers. I went out and sat on the hood of the truck. Im not getting into this shit at all. My friend the Sheriff and that favorite ' slow ' deputy ( read the other story folks ) pull up. " How Goes it Dan? " ' Eh? Im sitting this one out. Gonna be a cat fight. ' " How bad? " ' I dunno. Never seen either of them scrap before. ' Next thing we know the door of the store gets tossed open and out into the snow and slush is the employee whom is quickly smothered by my sister in law. They are pulling hair and scratching at each other, rolling around in the muck.. Deputy asks : ' Gonna stop them Sheriff?' Sheriff replies : " HELLS NO! Im waiting till one of them is pinned down. Im not getting injured trying to break that up! " So they are scrapping and the Sheriff says to his deputy " Remember those? " while pointing at my boots. The Girls FINALLY noticed the cops were there and sort of broke it up on their own. The Sheriff asked what was the cause and they argued back and forth. It was finally settled when I escorted my sister in law back into the car, bid that employee a nice day ( I wont say what her comments back were ). The Girl from behind the register came over after we were both in the car and told me ' Nice boots. They look good on you. Sorry about the fuss '. I wished her well and we went home. Sheriff is coming over for brunch tomorrow morning to get our side of the story.. and to stuff his face with Grams cooking . REPEATEDLY ARGUMENTATIVE, INSULTING AND RUDE. BANNED FOR LIFE.

Heelster Posted February 2, 2014 Posted February 2, 2014 And people think they will only run into that mentality in the south Oh hell no - it spread everywhere.
Dr. Shoe Posted February 2, 2014 Posted February 2, 2014 I would complain to the manager or the owner... Graduate footwear designer able to advise and assist on modification and shoe making projects.
Heelster Posted February 2, 2014 Posted February 2, 2014 I would complain to the manager or the owner... Funny you should mention that. Not to detract from ILK's thread, but we had an episode in a small village cafe near me. Seems two gay couples (4 guys) went to this cafe for lunch, The waitress complained to the boss that she didn't want to serve them. Boss came out and asked the guys to leave. One of the guys asked why, and then asked to see the owner. The boss identified himself as the owner, and proceeded to inform them that they didn't wish to serve there kind, and again asked them to leave. To bad for the village. It was their only local cafe. Within six months, they were out of business. Seems one of the guys was a legal assistant for a big legal firm. This firm found grounds for a law suit, which became too much for the owner to handle. The cafe was soon out of business.

ilikekicks Posted February 3, 2014 Author Posted February 3, 2014 I would complain to the manager or the owner... No point in it. I have more in life to worry about. Been constipated for a day or 2. There are a lot of things I will walk away from that many people wouldnt. Most people wish to complain or file lawsuits and make a big ordeal. Me? Well.. Since I've moved out here, Ive helped out a lot of locals. Weather its getting rid of varmints or mending fences, fixing tractors/cars/dumptrucks.. word travels really fast. Im running for a seat in the local assembly. I dont need the negative attention over something so irrelevant. Besides, the Sheriff and the woman at the store decided it was a ' non issue ' and let the whole thing go. THAT is good seeing as my sister-in-law threw the first swing ( and openly admits to it ). To bad for the village. It was their only local cafe. Within six months, they were out of business. Thats a good point. Because one employee was ' not friendly ' in my scenario, the one whom was really nice should have her job jeopardized because of whom she works with? Wheres the ' social justice ' in that? Theres quite a few ' small ' businesses in the town and Walmart moved in 3 years ago. Times have been hard enough on them already. Those business owners happen to be my neighbors. The ' owners ' didnt make a fuss about what was on my feet. Word travels fast in small towns. Her replacement will probably start tomorrow. REPEATEDLY ARGUMENTATIVE, INSULTING AND RUDE. Guest Posted February 3, 2014 Posted February 3, 2014 That's funny. You always have good stories. I am waiting for that to happen to me. Just hope the wife is not with me. Not that I want it to happen, just inevitable.
Foxyheels Posted February 3, 2014 Posted February 3, 2014 I suppose I will get a really bad reaction one day. I expect I won't be as nice as ILK though. If it got really out of hand I would call the cops and I know who they would side with due to our wonderful laws. High heels are the shoes I choose to put on, respect my choice as I repect yours.

Not that I want it to happen, just inevitable. I say this in all sincerity : I hope such a situation NEVER happens to any of the members here or anyone at in ( in general ). I know there are times when conflicts happen and maybe people become aggressive and/or violent. I dont wish to see anyone in that situation. REPEATEDLY ARGUMENTATIVE, INSULTING AND RUDE. Guest Posted February 4, 2014 Posted February 4, 2014 Me neither. But I think it is something everyone has to be prepaired for in the sense that it could happen. When you accept this it makes it easier to wear heels as part of your lifestyle.

This does cause a little inner turmoil as I dislike both the idea of discriminating against someone for any reason, and the idea of forcing someone to do something they wish not to. It would be better if people were free to do business as they like, but that they chose not to discriminate. Too bad this is an idealist situation, and human nature never allows 100% adoption of any ideal. (formerly known as "JimC")

I came back to reflect on this topic as I was looking for a new pair of sneakers today and stopped by the store mentioned earlier. The Employee whom didnt like my boots no longer works there. The other girl does and was very friendly. I DO like your outlook RockPup. The problem most dont see is how they hurt their own ' bottom line '. We grow plants and raise animals. We sell both. We put in effort/work and perform a task and are paid for it when all is said and done. Outside of regulations that have to be followed, nobody is here telling us what to do or how to do it. We dont care whom someone worships or whom they speak with as ' we raise and sell things '. Cash is ' green '. It doesnt matter whos hand it comes from. If a chimp staggered in tossing C-notes around we would sell it anything it wanted and be very courteous in doing such! N.Y. has started to see the ' Gay Wedding Cake ' issues pop up. My opinion is " find a bakery that has a Gay employee or 3 and promote them in the local papers as being friendly to such ideas ". Instead of flaming those idiots whom ( apparently ) dont want the business or the revenues for their efforts, promote those whom do good business and dont even mention the negative ones ( even bad advertisement is still advertisement ). The only discrimination I can say I have is those whom dont have the funds to buy products. I cant just give away everything. REPEATEDLY ARGUMENTATIVE, INSULTING AND RUDE. BANNED FOR LIFE.
Rockpup Posted April 19, 2014 Posted April 19, 2014 <snip> My opinion is " find a bakery that has a Gay employee or 3 and promote them in the local papers as being friendly to such ideas ". This tactic works well in areas with more of a gay population then others (Miami Beach, Key West), you see a rainbow sticker on the window in the business. Just means they are gay friendly. It stinks that you have to think about which place to do business in, but it is how it is. (formerly known as "JimC")
Dr. Shoe Posted April 19, 2014 Posted April 19, 2014 Here in the UK you will generally find that there are only a tiny minority of businesses that will discriminate at all. My boyfriend and I go anywhere and do anything we like and are treated as normal couple by everyone. Whether or not people realise I'm a transwoman or not I don't know. ILK has the right approach, if you get good service at a store or restaurant then of course you're going to recommend it to all your friends. On another website we get girls who ask if we know of "trans friendly" businesses all the time. The answer is always the same, use any of them until you have reason to suspect that they're not trans friendly. As ILK says, your money is (or should be) as good as anyone else's and in this day and age no one can really afford to discriminate even if they wanted to. WarrenB Posted May 1, 2014 Posted May 1, 2014 Last year I went to a Brunch. Afterwards, I went to the Russian grocery store next door to have a look around. I asked the clerk/manager for some help to buy some food as I wanted to try some. She refused to help me. I don't know why as it looked like she could use at least one more customer. Strange. I figure it was because I wasn't from Mother Russia. (I'm from Canada and living in the US) Men are from Mars, Women are from Venus, I'm from the Earth. Now wearing HH Penny Loafers full time.

crotchhiboots Posted December 19, 2020 Posted December 19, 2020 Seams like a negative loop has formed here. Bad things reinforce bad. So the thing to do is report good things an good will happen. Unforetinately media only reports negative things and doesn't report good news. 77r90dL lf
