Who's In Trouble From Hurricane Sandy?

Recommended Posts

Been listening to the weather reports off and on throughout the day, and it sounds like Hurricane Sandy is going to batter most of the East Coast. Sounds like the Philadelphia area is going to get hit hard from this storm. So, who else is in danger from Sandy?

They are calling this ' Frankenstorm ' :

http://www.boston.co...hNChL/story.htm

http://www.freep.com/article/20121025/NEWS07/121025085

"Hurricane Sandy, having blown through Haiti and Cuba on Thursday, continues to barrel north. A wintry storm is chugging across from the West. And frigid air is streaming south from Canada.

And if they meet Tuesday morning around New York or New Jersey, as forecasters predict, they could create a big wet mess that settles over the nation's most heavily populated corridor and reaches as far inland as Ohio."

The problem is 3 fold though. Theres a cold Arctic wind coming from Canada and a winter-type storm rolling in from out west. *IF* the 3 meet, this could become very ugly really quick.

Stock up. Candles, batteries, canned goods, fuel and a means of heat. Be a prepper.

Always a good idea. Don't wait for someone to bail you out. You never know how long you may have to wait.

Yeah, I've heard all about the nasty potential of "Frankenstorm". I'll be stocking up on batteries and non-perishables on Saturday, and make sure my cellphone is fully charged in case of a power outage. Just in case.

I'm known as one of those ' Preppers '. I think Mother Nature is going to defecate upon our species for all the damage we have caused her over the last 2 centuries. Whats not really being talked about is the Solar flares that are happening from now till mid December. Quite a few spikes have gone off this week and will head our way. Its always a good idea if you live in the NorthEastern part of the states to keep a small stockpile of goods to sit out some of the weather. Blizzard of 77 was bad but I believe things can get worse. Been a few years since the NorthEast has been really hammered. Were due! -Ilk

Good luck to you guys. Remember, watwr, cerial, pop tarts, and canned soup hold up well. So far waves of rain, wind, and clouds in southwest FL. Heading to Orlando now, and expect to get wet.

In the meantime, don't ignore your computer during preparations for Sandy. I just finished doing an on-site (external hard drive) and off-site (Mozy) backup of all my important files, just in case the worst case scenario comes calling. Also, make sure your cellphone is fully juiced and you have fresh batteries in your flashlights and radio in case you lose power. Oh, yeah, and a good, thick book might come in handy should you lose power and don't have access to the Internet so you can swing by HHPlace. Just saying.

Sandy has come and gone from here. A little wind and a little rain. Nothing out of the ordinary for us here on the tip of Hilton Head Island.

I work for the federal government at a Navy facility some seventeen miles northeast as the crow flies. Sounds like the worst of Sandy will be on Monday, so I suspect the base might be closed tomorrow and I'll be riding out the storm at home. Meanwhile, I'm about as prepared as I'm going to get, and I still don't know if it'll be enough because I have no idea what to expect. Guess I'm going to find out.

Some updates with footage. NagsHead, NC was seeing tide surges and High-tide wont hit for another 4 hours there. West Virginia and Eastern Ohio should be prepared for some snow, heavy and wet. Pittsburgh should be prepared for the same. New Jersey has closed some casinos/put a ban on gambling in hopes to keep people home. Gov. Christy has set up shelters already ' just in case ' things get really bad.

I'M ALIVE!!!!! Sandy raised quite a ruckus here in Philadelphia with lots and lots of rain and plenty stiff winds, but I made it through, didn't lose power in my neighborhood, and even my basement was dry as a bone. YAY! Meanwhile, the city remains shut down, schools and the courts closed, so are most of the main roads and highways along with SEPTA (the city's transportation authority). Won't know until 5:30 if the base where I work will be open, but after being cooped up in my house all day on Monday, I'm ready to go back to work!

I believe the worst of it has passed Western New York. Winds and some rain. No trees down or any power outages that I know of. I have heard Jersey and NYC have seen a good amount of the Storm and the Costal Areas of M.A. are getting pummeled. I wish the best for them and hope everyone makes it through. -Ilk
