Shafted Posted November 4, 2011 Posted November 4, 2011 I have always considered high heels as wearable works of art. This kind of validates my point of view. Shafted, the boots that is! benno Posted November 4, 2011 Posted November 4, 2011 Thanks at9, I'm in London on Monday and Tuesday. Deffo popping down to see this! And I can get a salt beef beigel when I'm all shoed out! Cheers, Ben
Dr. Shoe Posted November 4, 2011 Posted November 4, 2011 I'm back to work monday and other plans for the weekend... Graduate footwear designer able to advise and assist on modification and shoe making projects.
benno Posted November 4, 2011 Posted November 4, 2011 If cameras are allowed, I will take some shots.
Foxyheels Posted November 4, 2011 Posted November 4, 2011 I am London on Monday and will try to get there depending on time as already havea full day planned. High heels are the shoes I choose to put on, respect my choice as I repect yours.
at9 Posted November 4, 2011 Author Posted November 4, 2011 I wonder if we could get a mini heel meet together on Monday. The exhibit closes at 1900 and I could probably get there for 1800 or perhaps a little earlier.
benno Posted November 4, 2011 Posted November 4, 2011 I was thinking of going at about 6pm Monday too.
Jabble Posted November 4, 2011 Posted November 4, 2011 If I were back in England I would most definitely be there! Hopefully they do allow photos.
at9 Posted November 6, 2011 Author Posted November 6, 2011 As I have other reasons to be in the East End today, looks like I'll now be going this afternoon.
at9 Posted November 6, 2011 Author Posted November 6, 2011 Went this afternoon. Took a few pictures but only had a simple phone camera so apologies fo rimage quality. Also saw a man there wearing some very high heel platform stilettos. Sorry, no photo.
benno Posted November 6, 2011 Posted November 6, 2011 Thanks so much at9!!! Can't wait to go see them. Those beige very high sandals are epic. Also like the wood and plastic sandals. Was the man in platforms a punter or a crowd pleaser connected to the show? I'm going on Tuesday. With my mum!
pussyinboots Posted November 7, 2011 Posted November 7, 2011 I'm going on Tuesday. With my mum! (*giggle*) Don't let her blow her credit cards all at once.....!! "Good Girls keep diaries....Bad Girls just don't have the time...!:icon_twisted:"
at9 Posted November 7, 2011 Author Posted November 7, 2011 Was the man in platforms a punter or a crowd pleaser connected to the show? Unless he was acting very cool indeed he looked like an ordinary punter. Nobody seemed to take any particular notice of him. His shoes were pale coloured, platform 2" to 3" high, heel at least 6", possibly up to 8", stiletto, simple lace up, pointed toe. They were fully exposed below what were probably skinny jeans. He walked easily and naturally in them. Personally I didn't like the style - pointy toes and high plats aren't a happy marriage in my opinion - but kudos to him for wearing them out and about as if they were the most natural thing in the world. Reminds me of the guys in the recent New York Times story. I don't think I have ever seen anyone of any gender wearing footwear this extreme in an everyday environment (fet/BDSM clubs, carnival parades etc excepted) but perhaps I have led a sheltered life. Even around Brighton, Camden and Brick Lane, all areas where almost anything goes, I think they would count as exceptional. I'm not enough of a cynic to even have thought he might have been a plant.
roniheels Posted November 7, 2011 Posted November 7, 2011 If those who can attend are able to share some photos, that would be great.
benno Posted November 8, 2011 Posted November 8, 2011 I went to the exhibition this afternoon. It was much smaller than I expected but it was quite inspiring. I'll let the photos do the talking. Sorry for the camera phone snaps. If I had though about it I would have taken my big Nikon DSLR and a bag of lenses!! Thanks again to at9 for the original post. I saw some eye opening 'fashion choice' sights on Brick Lane and it was only a drizzly Tuesday afternoon. Best was a man in a mini skirt length, green batwing jumper, coral orange red tights and gold trainers. He had a very coiffed hairdo and face full of makeup that Barbara Cartland would have found extreme. I'll have to post the photos over a few posts. Louboutin's Svarovski Ballets first. Cheers, Ben
benno Posted November 8, 2011 Posted November 8, 2011 More... Gareth Pugh for Beyonce video. AMAZING in person. Photos don't do them justice. Nina Ricci for Daphne Guinness. I would love to try them on and go for a little walk. They look impossible to walk in but if you look at them properly they are simply a wedge with a BIG piece removed. I think they would be perfectly manageable. Rupert Sanderson for the Royal Opera House.
benno Posted November 8, 2011 Posted November 8, 2011 Sophia Grace Webster for Manolo Blahnik. Easily my favourite of the show. They are simply exquisite in person. If they had been displayed as a pair and had been size 40, I would either A: Be wearing them now. Or B: Be in Liverpool Street Police station.
benno Posted November 8, 2011 Posted November 8, 2011 Chau Har Lee. I loved these too. So creative. Look her up on Google images.
benno Posted November 8, 2011 Posted November 8, 2011 Final 4... Natacha Marro. I think these were for Daphne Guinness. Nike Air high heels. Terry De Havilland crazy pink boots. Loved his iconic Heart Wedges in the background too. Copper Sulphate crystal encrusted shoes. These showed great promise but in person they looked a bit like melted wax. A little bit creepy.
benno Posted November 8, 2011 Posted November 8, 2011 (*giggle*) Don't let her blow her credit cards all at once.....!! No chance of that. My mum's motto when buying clothes is 'Cheap and warm'! I try to tell her that 'Life's too short to be practical.' But she doesn't listen.
at9 Posted November 8, 2011 Author Posted November 8, 2011 Benno, your phone camera is definitely better than mine and you're a better photographer too. Not only do you see the fashionistas down Brick Lane but also the local Bengali community. There seems to be little interaction beween the traditionally dressed older Bengalis and the club, fashion etc crowd. Go back not too many years and you would have seen chassidic jews in the mix too. I have just started reading "On Brick Lane" http://www.amazon.co.uk/Brick-Lane-Rachel-Lichtenstein/dp/0141018518/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1320793502&sr=8-1 which is a fascinating and evocative book.
benno Posted November 8, 2011 Posted November 8, 2011 I know Brick Lane well. I was clubbing there over 15 years ago!!! Before it was 'trendy'. I was born in East London and have tons of friends there. I also design t shirts for a shop off Brick Lane. My Nan's ex husband owns quite a bit of property around Brick Lane and recently someone painted a large graffiti mural of him on one of the walls. My real Grandad (Nan's 1st husband) was always taking me there as a little kid for beigels and Jewish food. Thanks for the photo praise. I am a graphic designer and do some product photography, so hopefully I know a trick or two. Plus the venue was pretty quiet so I had lots of room to manoeuvre! Cheers, Ben
