Just curious what others think of this shoe:

I'm looking for something that's sort of discrete to wear. The description says "menswear-inspired", and looking at it, if it wasn't for the heel, it looks like it could be a man's shoe. Heel height is listed as 3", hoping it would be a bit higher at it's largest size of 12. Largest size is 12 M, but reviews seem to indicate it runs large, so hoping I might be able to squeeze my sz 13 foot into it.

Unfortunately doesn't look like there's any local stores that carry it in person, only option appears to be to order if from Nordstroms.

I agree that they are alright, but I would suggest checking Zappos for about anything made by clarks. They only go up to about 2.5 or 3 inches, but are well made, comfortable, and discrete. Zappos has awesome service, free returns, and it's easy to search by size. Good luck!

All the reviews I'm reading on it claim it's a comfortable all day wear boot which is good as that's usually a requirement of mine with a discrete boot. I say go for it if the size 12 can work for you. Charlie

Everything I say is a lie!.......I'm lying

I looked at Clarks (endless.com seemed to have a better selection that zappos.com), didn't see anything comparable. At least to me, a thin stilletto heel screams a feminine shoe, so I guess I figure a block, chunky heel has a better chance of coming off as a heel on a man's shoe. I looked at the Jeffrey Campbell website, it seems like almost all his shoes are that like that. I admit that I'm not thrilled with the price, especially since being a 12M, there's a good chance they won't fit. However, as those of us have large size feet can attest to, there's not a lot of selection out there, so sometimes you end up paying a premium to get what you want. Returning them if they don't fit isn't a problem, there's a Nordstroms nearby that I could bring them back to.

I'm sorry the Clarks aren't what you're looking for. I can say that a pair very similar to this: http://www.zappos.com/clarks-devoted-black-leather (mine were slip ons instead of zipups) were my first discrete heels, and I found them to be more comfortable than my standard wingtip Rockports. I even feel comfortable wearing them around my super-conservative parents, as they are also very quiet.

I just ordered a pair of these http://www.dsw.com/shoe/mia+girl+trainee+bootie?prodId=207820, I'll report back when I've had a chance to try them out.

They're very nice, very close to the ones I mentioned (I'd say even better). However, they also have the classic problem - they aren't available in large sizes. They appear to be strictly sz 6-11, no 5 or 12.

Definitely a shame, as between DSW's being local, and having all their stock out on the floor, it's a great placee to shop for shoes.

Still looking forward to hearing your report on them.

As far as my potential order goes, due to logistics, I may not be able to order them for about 6 weeks. Researching if I can work something out for sooner.

Did anyone else notice the introduction to the description on that first link?

Ladies, the Desert boot is now ours!

The desert boot has been a very popular men's style lately but Jeffrey Campbell now realizes its time for us ladies to get in on this style!

It's time the guys took something from the ladies!

My shoes arrived from DSW (http://www.dsw.com/shoe/mia+girl+trainee+bootie?prodId=207820&productRef=SEARCH).

They seem true to size, 11 in my case, and have no comfort issues. The heels seem a bit narrower than they look in the product description, but are wide enough my wearing in public.

The heels were quite loud, so I added a 1/8 inch layer of rubber to quiet them down. With the rubber, they are 3 1/2 inches at the back, easy to walk in, but definitely heels.

In the DSW photo, the toes look dark like they're in shadow. Actually this is supposed to be a dirty look, and the toes and lower heel on the shoe part are lightly sprayed with black paint. It looks OK at normal viewing distances, but up close looks fake -- like someone used spray paint to try to make them look dirty and aged.

I got them for $39 with free shipping so I am definitely happy with my purchase. I'll take them shopping tomorrow and see how they work out.

..

This was the exact problem I had some shoes from Avenue: fit okay, decent heel height, not expensive, but noisy to no end. Got a rubber replacement heel replaced at a shoe repair store, that didn't help. Filled the hollow heel with expanding foam insulation, that didn't help. I still have them, but have basically replaced them with my new favorite pair, Naturalizer Giddy, with a dead-quiet stacked rubber heel.
