Guest Posted December 7, 2008 Posted December 7, 2008 On Friday evening my work team ran a team outing round the local bars, Unfortunately I could not attend due to other commitments, playing Taxi for my O/Hs department party. Part of the plan was a secret santa based on a shirt or costume that matched the personality and that would be worn on the tour. One of the guys has sussed me and had planned if I was with them to swap with whoever and supply a pair of heels for the tour. (he even guessed sizes right). I got challenged to wear in on the Saturday overtime as a default "punishment". I complied. Choosing my High leg 5" platforms as overkill. With only 2 other team members making it a bit of a let down. I got no negatives, not even "does the misses know you've got them". (good start). One of the office staff (male) gave me a double up/down look on passing but that was all. Had to change into work shoes (steel toes) and continued as a normal morning. However each time I went into the office the above mentioned guy as I passed was un-discretely checking my feet! That was the biggest laugh/thrill of the morning, quite amazing. I'm still smiling about it now. Come Monday I'm sure some comments may come out but who cares it was a magic morning! Al
loswabs Posted December 7, 2008 Posted December 7, 2008 So will you have them Monday to wear once everyone can see? It's my opinion, no more, no less
Guest Posted December 7, 2008 Posted December 7, 2008 They will be in the car but not worn. Saturday staffing is barely as many as twenty and maybe 1 manager whereas normal weekdays nigh on 200 with 30% in soon after 0700. It's easier to slip in and get "away with it" on the weekends even just for the arrival and a few minutes extra. Al
Dawn HH Posted December 8, 2008 Posted December 8, 2008 I would still be interested in knowing just what happens on Monday morning. Cheers--- Dawn HH High Heeled Boots Forever!
Guest Posted December 9, 2008 Posted December 9, 2008 Posted @03:07 All was quiet no comments from that quarter, my team -a few minor regrets on missing out. Al End of Tuesday update @20:12 still quiet, I think this is going to die out without comment?? Al
Guest Posted January 12, 2009 Posted January 12, 2009 I've re-awoken the post from it's slumber. No comments came back at all:speechless:. But since then I've done a few extras into work. Last day at work before Christmas (24th) I was covering my section,- all out, zero interest, nil happening not even a manager with interest (went home at midday, said "last one locks up") spent the afternoon in heels pottering around doing not a lot. Returns to work after the new year, 2nd day alarm clock is a hour late arrives at work in heels (normal but much later than safe) 15 mins late for normal start, Passes one of the female office staff face to face clip clop audible - no reaction Changes into work shoes with 4 team members 3 yards away facing me (but not my feet) no reaction. Sick car today and for several days so lots of walking:thumbsup:. Walked in all the way 1.75 miles in heels, I did cheat and change into the lower "lioncubs" for the last bit to cross our main road and enter though security, 1 1/4+ in 4" < 1/2 mile in 3 1/2 in just under 40 minutes feet did not like going flat at work! an interesting start to the week pumps tomorrow? Al
Guest Posted January 13, 2009 Posted January 13, 2009 Yes did it 4 1/2 thin heels changed over at the same place/same reason. I had left out the times yesterday (0615-0650) sorry. Passed a young teenager at one point (early out for paper round), he may have looked back, may have missed it. Also had a car wait to park as I walked by. As many have said "It's a head game" I just ignored both "meetings" and carried on. In reality what could you do ----run? and show even more? In all probabilities streetwise, most drivers don't look and don't see and in most cases it's people like us that may look but more likely in daytime conditions. I've covered almost 9 miles in the last 48 hours, just short of 4 in heels and yes my feet ache. Al
Dawn HH Posted January 14, 2009 Posted January 14, 2009 Alsheels:-) Your feet will be the first thing to let you know if you are pushing wearing heels too much. But, then again, the more experience you get wearing heels in all kinds of conditions and on all surfaces, your feet will adjust over time. Cheers--- Dawn HH High Heeled Boots Forever!
Guest Posted January 15, 2009 Posted January 15, 2009 Same route Wednesday but with the lion cubs all the way was planned but not to be completed. I got a small blister the day before at the top of the heel cup unfortunately I had not realised it was them that did it. So it is larger and I stopped and changed less than a 1/4 mile short. However the balls of my feet have calmed down, in fact much quicker yesterday, maybe the lower heel or maybe getting used to major heel walks I also have a streaming cold that has been trying to take hold for the last month or so that has won (so it thinks). Just cos my head is out of order my feet are enjoying a slower pace today. There is definitely a difference in just heeling for pleasure and "heel hiking" to work. The challenge was to do some mileage and that I have done in a mixture of heels, the MJs and platform boots are still on the list, the platform sandals are very reserved for housewear. As Dawn commented about conditions, yep all sorts from flat to not so flat paving slabs and their gaps, tarmac of varying degrees of disrepair, pebble and concrete slopes. And the sounds wow if these was my first outings I'd be paranoid. Not now! Its been good, really good Al
Stilettoscot Posted January 15, 2009 Posted January 15, 2009 Much better excercise than conventional walking for sure. When you arrive after a long jaunt, is your heart rate up? Walking in ultra-highs because it's exciting...and it is!!
Guy N. Heels Posted January 16, 2009 Posted January 16, 2009 So I take it that steel-toed shoes are required at Alsheels workplace, is that right? If so, do you own any steel-toed heels; or plan tobuy any? Many moons ago I worked where regulations required steel-toed shoes in the shop. Therefore the company bought our shoes for us and even paid for replacement shoes once a year. While I was looking through the supplier's catalog one day I was somewhat shocked to find steel-toed high-heeled shoes. They had about 3 1/2" spike heels and really didn't look unattractive. I never ordered any and I really couldn't imagine anyone actually wearing them. Keep on stepping, Guy N. Heels
vector Posted January 16, 2009 Posted January 16, 2009 But, until you knew they existed, someone could have worn them and you wouldn't have known. Except for the work rules!
Guest Posted January 16, 2009 Posted January 16, 2009 Yes I have to be in steelies. Even the female office staff have to comply to come out to enter the work bays. We have 4 girls on the hanger floor and mostly wearing Doc Martins 9 in the office mostly in flats, 2 are in heels 2-3" occasionally, 1 in low wedges and 1 came smartly in some very nice 4" boots last week (think she had an interveiw). as I said earlier a few know and I get a bit of teasing, more on the lines of "she's got your shoes" That I can handle Al
morpho Posted January 16, 2009 Posted January 16, 2009 Yes did it 4 1/2 thin heels changed over at the same place/same reason. I had left out the times yesterday (0615-0650) sorry. Al nice stories my friend.....I agree with you that it is in the mind and quick or spontaneous reactions to a noise or a staring or even a guy trying to talk to you, is already late, since an outing is planned before and the desicion was made, to go back is not an option, so...the only thing to do is face the consequences but mstly the excitment....I am still planning my second outing which would be soon......if going out in heels is in an advanced level, then these is for laughing, but everybody had passed thru this experirnce before. keep posting your experiences, and show us a pic of you outfit when in public so we can imagine. Guest Posted January 16, 2009 Posted January 16, 2009 Thanks Morpho I'm mostly in jeans either bootcut or regular/easyfit sometimes the reg looks better with this heel or that heel, or maybe just my feeling/style for the day. Certainly for work it's no fashion show, polo/tee shirts with fleece sweatshirt and fleece jacket. Casual way from work I live in jeans and tee shirts but out a sleeved shirt and leather style jacket. It's general the normal local styles, so no bright neon lights saying "look over here" As for daytime heeling which is limited due to family I have 3 pairs of short boots 3 1/2 - 4" which hide quite well inside the jeans with about an inch showing, also done away from home territories. Incidentally I have had to get several auto parts in from selective dealers often in heels, I've found a new habit leaning on the counter waving a foot around, very relaxed and very obvious just an empty shop. I'm sure I could do more loony sessions in the right circumstances especially as my team are all but one younger than me - hence the original opening story of this thread. Cheers Al
Dawn HH Posted January 17, 2009 Posted January 17, 2009 Boy, you sure can learn a lot from this Forum. I didn't know that heels were available with steel toes? Are they still available today? I sure wouldn't want to be kicked in the shins with them. The pointed toe box is bad enough. Although they would undoubtedly come in handy during a mugging, but with a much higher kick. Cheers--- Dawn HH High Heeled Boots Forever!
Guest Posted January 18, 2009 Posted January 18, 2009 I had a search on UK sites on Friday the only heeled style were about a 1" heeled court/pump. (299.jpg) The loafer style in an almost flat slight wedge are common, but I found a heeled version (6124v150.jpg), getting better but no glam awards here. What is disturbing is the variation of prices "229" from sub £30 to £55, the "150" £40 ish. Whereas most mens are £20 - £50 depending on name (without the real specialist types). I remember seeing true heels listed back in the seventies, cos guess what we apprentices asked for just to be silly? (honest) Went to Bognor again yesterday, should have heeled it but it didn't happen, can't really explain why, blister annoying -yes, comfy boots -yes, pile of shopping -yes. cold (virus not the weather) was going to change en route back just too many bags which included two pairs of heels from the NEWLOOK sale, a pair of purple sandals (£7) for my O/H and light brown platform courts (£5) for me, a touch tight but the stretch spray is in use. Al
Guest Posted January 19, 2009 Posted January 19, 2009 Just to drop a picture of my normal "lazy" dress as mentioned above ie jeans a tee shirts, I normally balance the cuff heights by how tight/loose the my belt is, simply I can lift and tighten for low heel or loosen and drop to cover a higher heel. Or simply hide or show - well whatever. I think bootcut's are a little slimmer in the leg but tend to be too wide at the cuff and I'm still loosing weight, (must be the exercise) I not trying to set any WOW standards here just normal nondescript (and trying to get used to these heels) that is an earlier thread " Un-normal mode of style". Between the two I will settle into a "balanced" style Al

Cheers--- Dawn HH For some reason the name Iron Mountain seems to stick in my mind. After I became sick and unable to work I rather lost track of the steel-toed mfgrs. But try a quick web search and see if Iron Mountain shows up. Keep on stepping, Guy N. Heels
jmc Posted January 21, 2009 Posted January 21, 2009 I remember seeing steel-toed heels in an "Iron Age" catalog back in the 80's. Wasn't really into heels back then, the general consensus was that they would make effective torture devices for the toes. That steel toe cap just won't "give" at all. Have a happy time!
Dawn HH Posted January 21, 2009 Posted January 21, 2009 Guy N. Heels:-) It has been a long while since I had to wear steel toes for my job in the steel mill, but It seems to my memory that they were the Iron Mountain brand. Thanks for the heads-up on them. Cheers--- Dawn HH High Heeled Boots Forever!
Guest Posted February 6, 2009 Posted February 6, 2009 Maybe it's wrong to keep this thread running but it is I suppose a diary of my morning activities whilst without transport, so returning back to the subject of my jaunts into work. back into work after a heavy bout of colds etc spent last week hitching in so had to behave, however this week with our little bit of snow, sorry we only got an inch was a definite opportunity (and more sensible to) get the boots on . Having a small dose of snow was nice and easy to hide the heels in the snow and finally struck up enough bottle to go all the way without changing, even though security, and on to my desk/bench on Monday. Well that seemed easy, so again on Tuesday. Missed Wednesday as I was late but went for it both Thursday and today. Some minor incidents for the week, Monday got a head to toe as I came though the gate by security. Tuesday a couple of long looks from slow traffic and discussed the poor state of the paths with our health and safety manager,(still in heels and she is 5 ft 2) Thursday nothing. Today meet 2 dog walkers (1 male 1 female) the male- long look the other I just passed the time of day and carried on, then at security spent 2 minutes discussing my car as everyone else came in and to finish walked in in front of 2 of my team. Wow what next? and I'm working tomorrow Al
