  1. thanks for relating your experience to us, I'm sure it will act as inspiration to others who feel they are 'not ready' to go public. It's nice when the women take an interest in your footwear, even if from a distance. Sort of makes the effort worthwhile. Keep it up, Spike, we look forward to your next expedition :D

  2. having a walking aid is useful, something I don't have, but then I haven't been wearing my ballets for a long while. :o still need lots more practice :( would like to hear how you progress and a picture, if possible, with your ballets and corset :( or am I just being a perv! :D

  3. They do still have their own factory, it's just that not all of their products are manufactured on the one site. Usually, it's the higher heels that are from the states, as are some components, but a look around their yard will assure you that footwear production still continues there. :(

  4. system update !! now is- AMD Athlon XP 2200+ 512Mb DDR 333 RAM 120Gb Seagate 7200rpm ATA 133 80Gb Maxtor 5400rpm ATA 100 64Mb GeForce2 Ti w/TV out Aver Media TV tuner and video capture w/remote 16x48 Samsung DVD ROM 44x24x44 Yamaha CRW-F1E cd-rewriter 4x Liteon LDW-411S multiformat DVD-rewriter. writes everything except DVD-RAM onboard sound which will be changed for an SB Live! or Audigy at some point, but does the job for now :( 21" IBM CRT monitor

  5. bar codes on shoe labels and conspiracy theories? sounds like something I could have my imagination run riot on for a few seconds! try this - spy satellites are now so sophisticated that they can read the fine print on a newspaper from orbit. Using this technology and the ultra small cameras placed all over the world, they can now track a pair of shoes no matter where they go. Maybe they're hoping that Bin Laden or Saddam are going to buy some! :( As for freebies on magazines. Why don't they stick them on the inside of the cover where there's something of less importance. I don't mind wrecking the inside of the cover, it's far preferable to a large white scar on the outside! As for another type of label ! We bought a Harry Potter Model Train Set last year and were dismayed to find that it had a "Pre-Tested" sticker on it. To most people this would mean "excellent, they've made sure it works". To us it means "bollocks. If we leave it on it devalues the set. If we try and remove it, it ruins the box and devalues the set". A classic No Win situation. I pointed this out to the vendor concerned and he has promised that if an untainted box comes in, he'll ring me and tell me to come collect. Plus he's now looking at low tack stickers. ps. it was the first release Harry Potter and the Philosophers Stone set and it's value has nearly trebled! Not that we intend selling it :(

  6. Nearly a weeks wear ! :( the plastic tips on my thigh highs were virtually shredded just from that one night! good news is that I have some metal tips salvaged from a pair of boots that were not suitable for anybody's use :( guess they'll be put to better use :( metal tips do tend to be slippier on non-grip surfaces such as tile and marble and they puncture soft surfaces with ease, so watch out on hot days on that tarmac!!

  7. I'd certainly be up for a train-related meet. I'm very interested in railway history and have managed to get both of my kids completely addicted too. Trouble is that they'd want to come, and then I'd have to dress a hell of a lot more conservatively than I'd like :(

Pity you didn't say about the trains! The layout is in the front bedroom !!

  8. The NRM at York is a great place to go if you wish to see a history of trains. I went in May this year after chasing LNER A4 60009 Union of South Africa to York and back. While we were waiting for the delayed arrival of that train, we were treated to another steam engine on it's way to Scarborough. In this case it was an 8F in late BR black. Needless to say, Jackie now wants models of both the A4 and 8F. While waiting for the return trip to set off we went round the NRM. I took a load of photos and a couple of Jackie standing between the buffers of a 'Ducchess'. I think we covered the entire site. Jackie was wearing flat shoes, while I was in 4" ankle boots :( No-one made any comments! The floors in parts of the museum allow for some great 'clicking' sounds :( ps. admission to the NRM is free!

  9. Well !!! What a night!! Although a large number of people didn't turn up for whatever reasons, the people that did make it had a terrific time! The night started fairly subdued with us wondering how many were going to turn up. Dr Busker arrived around 6:30 to set up his disco equipment. He did want to stop over the night, but his wife was ill and he had the kids in tow, or we'd have been treated to him on his squeezebox until early hours of the morning. Lots of drinking, dancing and general hilarity as we burnt Tony Blair and attempted to destroy the neighbourhood with our relatively small arsenal of fireworks. I say relatively small as I would have liked more. :( But's that's just me! Nikk turned up and I was glad he made the trip. Looks like he enjoyed himself as well. After the general populace had gone to bed, we had to turn the volume down, but that didn't stop the fun. My brother had decided that we should dress up and have a laugh, so out came my tights, skirt, top, white wig and thigh high boots, add a spiky collar and I was ready. A few hours later, Nikk said that he had arranged a taxi to take him back to a B&B despite our invitation for him to stop. We continued the drinking until some time early (I think about 3:30am) and made our way up to bed. My brother and his girlfriend decided that they wanted to watch Matrix Reloaded, so we sat up and drank more beer! Next morning Firefox helped with some aftermath, namely the pots while my brother dried up. We continued to clear up the devastation and pulled most of the decorations down. Time to pack them away for next years bash! A pity that others couldn't make it, you missed a great party, but maybe next year, if I feel like it, we'll have another one :(

  10. we currently have 2 tabby moggies :( Jake and Elwood. Jake is a lazy fat slob that doesn't care and will take fuss from anyone, while Elwood is more wary but is a very loving cat who asks to go out. Different story when I lived in Lincolnshire. We had 27 cats! Yes! 27!! Jackie has nightmarish memories of asking to feed the cats when she first moved in ! 24 cats came in that night for feeding, although 5 were tiny kittens and 2 cats scared the life out of her :( Mind you, Nicholas was more like a panther than a cat and Thomas (His Nibs) was just demanding  Most of our cats came from extra litters being produced, although some came from other people not wanting their cats and dumping them at our place. That's where the dog came in though. He would scare off any people attempting to dump their cats, but would bring home any weak cats he found. A very loving, intelligent dog. He used to nurse the kittens which was a strange sight. A 6.5 stone sable coloured labrador lay on his side with week old kittens by his belly. Some cats were real characters, Thomas came to us as a 1 day old and we hand reared him. He tried to establish himself as top cat until Ellie realised and knocked him down a few pegs. Nicholas was a huge black cat that didn't have a single ounce of fat on him, just pure muscle. Stark contrast to his brother, Steven, who was mostly flab. Lucy was a lovely white and tortoise shell colour and gave birth to some really beautiful kittens. Cleo was a thin black cat that I found behind a stack of newspapers, she was suffering from both her hips been broken. We took her to the vets and got her patched up. The vet put her on steroids and advised us to not let her into any weightlifting competitions :( He reckoned that she wouldn't live much more than 3 months. She lived for another 5 years until she disappeared. Even with all these cats about, I was still able to keep chickens. The cats didn't bother with them at all and would ignore them even when I let the chickens out of the pen to roam around the garden, but the cats would have any mouse, rat or rabbit that they encountered. I love cats, but I sometimes have to wonder about Jake these days. He walks around with a stoned look on his face and has the intelligence of his food !
