Nice article and picture. Thanks for pointing that out. Since I don't wear skirts I have little use for thigh high boots. I am not sure I am ready to try them on over pants, as you do. Once I tried on thigh boots in a shop, trying to get my pants over them. It as pretty hard, and must have been a good spectacle.

It must have been really a very nice experience. I can't wait until halloween to do this myself (wearing mules though)!
No need to wait for Halloween !

i plan to, and i'm gonna follow the advice of one of the other members here (don't immediately remember who) that said wear other women's shoes whilst shopping to remove the shock factor
very good advice i must say!
Absolutely, man ! If you wear heels and you ask for a size, you often don't even have to pop the question "Can I try them on ?" I have had often sales people asked me right away if there was anything in the store that I wanted to try on.

I've only bought my high heels from either the net or mail order. I have bought ballet shoes in person, though that took some nerve. I admire you guys who can go into a shop and try on shoes. I just don't have the courage. Out of interest, do you wear tights / stockings in readiness of trying on the shoes?
There are times I really wish I had the nerve to try!!
I always the thin nylon socks so that i can easily slide in boots. I almost always wear some kind of women's shoe when going shopping for shoes. In summer I wear sandals with no socks. If you are trying on closed shoes you can always ask for a pair of the socks they have in the store.

Great job !

Great. Welcome to the club of folks that wears whatever they want on their feet ! I doubt that people at 5.45am in the morning have much interested in what you are wearing. Most folks are probably still too tired to look at anything seriously

I spent the whole day Christmas shopping today. I went all out on the heels, wearing my 4.5" stiletto boots with a pointed toe. Interestingly I got very little reaction. A few smiles, that was it. This is a great time to wear heels in malls. They are crowded and everyone is so busy. Also, for those of you worried about noisy heels, with the noise of the crowds the sounds of the heels really doesn't stand out. I had a great time. Went by all of my favorite shoe stores and clothing stores. Only bought one pair of slingback sandals. I feel like I am starting to spend a lot of money on shoes so i am holding back a bit. By the end of the day my feet were killing me so I switched in a pari of 3.5" blade heels from Nine West (I always carry some extra pairs in my car on long shopping trips). While I am still worried that I will run into someone from my work (I shop not to far from where I work), I felt very comfortable wearing stiletto boots in crowds. So for those of you still doubting: Give yourself a christmas present and go shopping in yor heels

really nice shoes. Way to go.

I think of regional managers would know how some sales people treat their customers, they would be fired on the spot. There is nothing as unappealing as running into those totally uninterested sales people that spend their time yacking on the phone and don't even bother to ask if they can help find you anything.

Great pair of heels !

Great story, Brandy. And congratulations on having the courage to go your own way.

A great pair, Robert !. But watch it. Before you know it you will be so comfortable that you will be wearing 4" stiletto heels !

shoes i wouldn't wear in public? these 5" stilettos i got from ebay, made by fredericks...
most everything else is tame enough for the public eye
I have worn sandals like that out. If you wear them slightly covered and with clean and polished nails, I have found to get less reaction than when I wear pointy boots with a stiletto heel.

Hi, I think there are many people on this board that share your fashion for ladies shoes. Now, yuo have to tell me what plimsolls are. Is this a British term ? Maybe a picture ?
-
Nice observation. I guess the main point is that when you wear unusual shoes, you will get noticed, whether you are a guy or a women.
-
Dawn and Jeff, I agree with both of you. Yes, patent red shoes can be noticed ! But the fun of having a shoe collection and having achieved confidence is to wear what you feel like. My shoes often reflect my mood. When I wear black I want to be stylish. When I wear color I feel bold and excited. I think women have figured out a long time ago how to use their clothing to make a personal statement. Even women would stand out in red patent boots, and I know few (actually no) women that would wear them all the time. But there is a place and mood for almost everything. That is what makes it so much fun.

Hello fashionablefun, That sounds like a great experienc. There are many supportive sales people in shoe stores. Which part of the country was this ?
-
Very nice. I loke the straight heel on the sandals

Great account Jeff. It is good reading for the newcomers to this board to know that tey can start out with the shoes they are most comfortable wearing public and slowly build their way up as their confidence and acceptance grows.

Terry, I think they look awesome with your jeans. It would be a shame if you didn't get to wear them outside. I have worn stiletto boots regualrly (though with longer jeans). People do notice on occasion, but so what. I have the impression that it is more the pointy toe that gets notice than the stiletto with long pants, and then people's attention drifts to the heel

Hi quartz, If you are the real quartz, welcome back. Always enjoyed the tales about your outings on the old board

I usually just get all weather tires. It is just such a pain to have the tires changed each season. But I guess we are drifting off topic ...

I just wore this pair of purple stilleto boots to the mall yesterday. It is not quite the shiny red, but definitely stands out.
-
Sounds like you had a great experience.
Do you wear your heels outside?

I love the Christmas shopping season. Normally I wear my heels at leasy partly covered with long bootcut jeans, but today was so wet and messy outside that I didn't want any long pants since they would get all wet and dirty. So I went out for a half day of shopping with regular jeans and my red boots with 4" block heels, fully exposed. Amazingly, no one seemed to pay attention ! I admit, that these were not stilettos, but they are high heels. People are so involved with their Christmas shopping and just try not to bump into one another. This is a great time to go out there and wear heels. I also bought some sandals that look just like the ones below my login name. Yummie
