  1. Since I have had a happy conclusion with  my wife for a while now that women’s jeans fit me best, I decided to pull out the heels today and work on their acceptance.

I had them on at various times in the morning, and no one said anything.  Then during lunch my 10 year old son asked “why are you wearing high heels” and it was then they my wife noticed and blurted  “those are girls’ shoes!”  I said I liked them and they were comfortable, but she argued that the “girls’ shoes” were anatomically incorrect, and that men have longer toes.  We did a side by side comparison of our feet (we are both size 9) and I do not see the difference, honestly.  Then she wanted to try them on, (she never wears heels, by the way) which I was thrilled to oblige.  As expected, they were too big (heels are a size 10 that runs big) but it does prove that I am wearing the correct size for my feet.  She told me to take them off, and since we were about the leave the house anyway, I changed to the elephant boots with 2.25” heels that she is used to.  I walked around for a while and then she took one look at my shoes and said “take off those girls’ shoes,” at which point I laughed and said see, you can’t tell the difference, they are about the same height heel I usually wear.

Eventually things calmed down after the initial reaction but she has been poking fun at my “girls’ shoes” every now and then.  I think she sees that it makes me happy and over time she’ll get used to it I think.  In the meantime I am also glad my son is seeing this whole interaction unfold, as I hope he is learning that it is ok to be a little adventurous...

Nice! I use both of those but admit I have some friends who don’t know about my heeling and I am not sure how they’d react

I am new to heels, and I don’t go out of my way to solicit the opinion of my friends about it.  I don’t think their reaction matters to me or my choices.  I’d rather hear from the people here at HHP, because you all have taste and give constructive feedback.  Over time my shoes will probably find their way into various pictures on social platforms, and it might confirm what they might expect from me, or they learn something new.  Those who don’t know how to react will likely stay silent.

Absolutely true. But should we meet the expectations of others? For our own mental comfort?

There is a time and a place for everything. Just like how in a conversation, there is a time to listen, and a time to speak, perhaps we use the same discernment on what to wear.  There is a time to “listen” and meet expectations, and a time to “speak” and introduce new ideas.

    P1ng74,

You are new to heels and already have 4-5 pairs.  It's so easy to be a kid in a candy shoe, I know first hand. Take a short break in your purchases and enjoy the heels you already have. New boots are still coming in.

You are right, and I realize it looks like I splurged this week.  Prior to this week, the purchases were small and mostly for learning and information gathering - evaluating and experimenting with the comfort, practicality, and overall look of different heel types.  I thought long and hard about this week’s 2 purchases, using what I learned, and I proceeded with what I hope will be working long term plans to wear these heels a lot.  I am pretty sure this will curb purchases for a while, as I have plenty to play with now.

  5. I found a really good Saks Off Fifth store for heels, and my dream boots!  I pulled on these Stuart Weitzman boots in size 10, and found them to be a bit snug.  Fortunately, this store has some sizes beyond 10, but the next one up they had was a whopping 11.5.  I tried them on and was pleased to discover that my feet locked into them just fine.  11 is probably ideal, but I’ll take a little bit of extra room - easily fixable with a pair of thicker socks if need be.

Overall, these are amazing shoes.  I put them right on in the parking lot and they have been on my feet now for 9 hours straight without any discomfort.  They have already noticeably conformed to my feet enough that they do not feel too big.  They literally feel like soft socks over the legs and feet, but with a heel.  Made in Spain, top quality materials everywhere, it doesn’t get much better than this!

I love these boots! I’ve been looking for a pair like this but in brown... were they on sale? I went to Dillard’s website, too pricey for me lol

They are the “Calmma” boots and unfortunately does not seem to be available in brown.  They are selling at full price down here, which is fair as it is just the beginning of boot season.  They are made in China, but they are full leather and the materials look and feel good.  The leather is thin but soft, which seems to be the “slouch” style.  I don’t mind paying a little for boots that I will wear often and last a while, and we will see how these hold up.  The heel cap feels a bit plasticky, but I’ll get it switched out if and when the cap wears down.

  7. Well after all that planning over the purple heels, I have decided I will leave them behind and go for the knee high boots next week.  Yes the 4 inch heel will be a workout, but I’ll plan some extra walking time and enjoy walking through all the airport terminals in them.  My ankles were immediately a little tense when I put them on after work today, but a couple of drinks at the bar loosened everything up and I was walking all over the hotel lobby feeling good.  Nobody asked me about my heels, but it seems that I am getting more eye contact from strangers.  And that is all it is, eye contact - nobody is looking down at my shoes.  I attibute the increased eye contact to the decreased speed in which I am walking, allowing more time to look around, and the happy look on my face from wearing heels.

It’s amazing how different the foot angle is with a 4 inch heel versus 3.  Such a steep angle!  My wife ordered me these pants that are actually long enough for a full break, which is how I plan to roll in them next week.
