  1. When you first posted about this 'fight' I was worried that you had words with Darian. Fortunately it is not that and the outcome sounds very positive. There are always people who think they are the smartest in the world. Quite a few in my profession. One day we had a discussion about it at lunch and one person summed it up very well: "That is very dumb of them because they should know that it is me". Congratulations with a very nice mother in law. Y.

  2. My wife knows and feels rather normal about it. If it is what I want and I do not change because of it, she is quite happy. When I want to go out with heels that are rather high and visible, she is a bit worried that I will make a fool of myself, but if I insist, she will say: "if that is what you want..." and we go out happily together. Afterward she may say that in the restaurant there were some people behind me looking at my feet a number of times. When you sit at a table heels are always more visible. We also go shopping for shoes together. That is much more fun. Y.

  3. Unfortunately I have to temper your enthusiasm a bit. On average a generation is about 30 years. That means that 70 generations cover about the time since the year zero. Take also into account that there has been a translation error in these old books. In the Middle East they were on a moon calender (Islam still is) and the word for moon has at some point been translated as year. (980 moons is about 80 years. Getting a child at 500 moons is 41-42 years, which is late but doable). The doubling of computer power (called Moore's law) has been going on for quite some time but seems to have slowed down lately. My previous laptop was the top of the line and is now at least 7 years old and it was 3 GHz. My current one is not much faster (2 years old). Progress seems to be in multi-core and multi-processor computing but that runs into several limitations: many things are outrageously difficult to parallelize and more important: heat. In the 70's big computers needed enormous cooling devices. In the 80's, with the chips taking over, this cooling was not needed and that went on through the 90's and early 20's. At the moment we are making lots of money renting out the old cooled rooms to companies that need to have large numbers of computers to run their websites. There is a physics principle involved here. If we can get superconducting computers things will be better (far less heat), but these have been just around the corner for at least 30 years already and may stay just around the corner for quite some time to come. About which books are taught: Different churches have different favorites. There was a time that you could get burned at the stake for having a bible at home. Early in Christianity there were very many books floating around, but at one church meeting (Nicea?) it was decided which gospels to keep (there were many). The rest was destroyed. Relatively recently they found the gospel according to Judas back. It gives quite a different outlook. Y.

  4. When you see a picture of two women, one obviously dominant, the other obviously submissive, usually

both are wearing very high heels.

I think the heels are in this case more an expression of their femininity. This is then in combination with the

    rest of their outfit.

When you take a man in very high spiky heels, he will usually not try to express femininity with the rest of

his clothes (usually!) and in that case one does not think in terms of dominant or submissive either.

Hence to me the answer to the question is "none of the above".

In my eyes dominant or submissive is a matter of behavior. Of what you radiate. What your face looks like.

The shoes make the whole thing sexy, attractive, elegant and more.

    Y.

  5. What we are all forgetting is that the world was of course to end on 1-1-1000. In those days there were very many people believing that. Just as now there are many people who believe that they (and other believers) will be picked up by a spaceship. The things you hear when you are not deaf.... The Maya number has been calculated wrong anyway and is supposed to take place in one or two centuries, and it is just as with the year 1000: enter a new digit/number. The 12-12-12 at 12:12:12 was kind of cute though. Y.

  6. There is a shop like this in Amsterdam. We once talked with the lady who runs the shop and said that she decided to start the shop because she always had problems finding shoes her size (46). I am sure anybody who starts such a shop knows that a dominant fraction of the clientele will be men. There is really no need to mention that. The selection in the shop was not really our taste, but I am sure many people here would have a different opinion. Y.

  7. I think it depends very much on the design of the shoe. It is the same as with heel height. Some low heels (or even flats) are horrible to walk in and you can damage your ankles with them, and some high heels are extremely comfortable. Similarly some narrow heels can be very stable and some chunky heels are not. Probably there is also a lot of psychology involved. If you are a stiletto addict, you just want them to be more stable and hence they become stable in your mind. It is a kind of placebo effect. On average I think that the chunky heels are more stable. But that is a personal statistical opinion only. Y.

  8. I personaly find it so ridiculous when I see a nice girl in nice heels and she has not bothered/succeeded in removing the white stickers under the sole !

I can still understand it when it is the first time you are wearing them and you might still bring them back.

    But after that.....

If the designer would have thought the shoe prettier with the label, (s)he would probably have designed a permanent label on it.

    Y.

  9. Strange as it may seem, the shoes in my avatar are my only platforms, and they do not have very much of it. (I just thought they make a very spacial avatar). Normally I do not like platforms. The only benefit I see, is that if you have 1 cm of platform, your feet will not hurt when you walk on cobblestones. There are quite a few nasty ones in the center of Amsterdam and my feet almost always take a bad beating walking there. Y.

  10. I also believe this is not so strange. The fact that you are with your lady friend kind of sanctions it. It portrays you as hetero guy with an interesting sense of fashion. When you are all alone, people have no frame to put you in and many will picture you as gay, weirdo, or whatever. I also am braver with my wife than without. Y.

  11. Some recent posts made me think of something found on the internet (search for spell checker poem) A Little Poem Regarding Computer Spell Checkers... Eye halve a spelling chequer It came with my pea sea It plainly marques four my revue Miss steaks eye kin knot sea. Eye strike a key and type a word And weight four it two say Weather eye am wrong oar write It shows me strait a weigh. As soon as a mist ache is maid It nose bee fore two long And eye can put the error rite Its rare lea ever wrong. Eye have run this poem threw it I am shore your pleased two no Its letter perfect awl the weigh My chequer tolled me sew.

  12. The essence of communication is that the person(s) you are adressing can understand what you say cq. write. For instance, we agree that we use english on this forum. If I were to write in my native language only a few people here would understand me. You would either complain or ignore me. Hence I make an effort to write in english. Is it asked too much that also the native english speaking people make an effort so that others can understand them, especially the people from outside the USA or the UK? I notice often that people do not read their own posts. Please realize that whatever you write will be kept around for a long time to come. Treat it as something you can be proud of. Y.
