  1. The problem is with people starting to use words as intentional insults. At the moment a word becomes a rather well spread insult, you need a new word that does not have that connotation (yet), because the person at the receiving end will interpret that you try to insult him or her, even when that is absolutely not the case. A very well known is Nigger (just the Latin niger=black) -> negro -> black -> afro american -> ??? If you want to stop this, you have to get people to a point that they do not try to insult others. Y.

  2. The story about the breast had to do with that it made it easier to shoot arrows. You don't want the string of a strong bow to hit your breast. In a society, the ideal situation is to have for each job the most qualified person. So you set standards, and people that fulfill the standards qualify. I don't see anything wrong with this. For combat duty this may mean that a far smaller percentage of women candidates qualify then of the male candidates, as long as combat duty is mainly physical. Who knows what war will look like in 100 years. But don't we have similar things for pilot training etc? Y.

  3. I agree with the other opinions. Enjoy the TV, maybe take some wine, but don't touch the clothes. If you like clothes, buy your own. Just imagine you damage something. But when she comes back you can say that you watched the TV, drank some wine and didn't use the dresses. And then look at the reaction. She must have seen you look at the dresses..... Y.

  4. I've tried women's jeans in the past and found several kinds that fit me perfectly and looked much better than any men's jeans. But mostly the pockets were too small to be practical or useful. I guess women keep all their stuff in a handbag and never put anything in their pockets. Of course, stuff in your pockets spoils the look of the jeans, but I'm not ready to start carrying a handbag.

There are rather neutral bags. Some even look like they are more for utility than for elegant.

I have one that fits exactly an iPad and I can put a number of other things in it as well. I use that when I do not have enough

pocket space. And you also have a good excuse: you wanted to take your iPad along.

  5. In my experience, the 'OK on a man other than my husband' viewpoint is quite widely held. It sits alongside the stance of a women who clearly enjoys watching on television a male entertainer who (i) is very camp or obviously gay; or (ii) is a female impersonator and dressed accordingly; or (iii) tells distinctly off-colour or offensive jokes or stories. In each case, the husband would be censured severely if he behaved in that way and the wife would express her horror or embarrassment. Double standards rule!

If you watch a lot of TV or movies you will see lots and lots of violence.

Yet your wife will object if you start doing that as well. (let us hope so)

What you see on TV is definitely not a cross section of society.

The keyword in why a woman may not want to see the heels on her own man

is "embarrassment". She does not have those feelings when it concerns others.

  6. Years ago somebody told me, he had been doing just that. Applying, just to see what would happen. And then one day he had an interview and the personnel chef that interviewed him looked right through it, and they had a nice talk and the end of the story was that he ended up at that company. So, who knows. Maybe you will run into an offer you cannot say no to as well. We all like to hear about your adventures of course. Y.

  7. Do we really need acceptance from our spouses? What if you told her, you can't wear heels or pants anymore. She will tell you where to go! Its a double standard. Just my 2 cents.

I don't think you should look at it that way.

Marriage (living together) is not about dictates. Neither her telling you not to wear heels, nor you telling her that you

are going to wear heels no matter what.

You should show respect for each others feelings, and if there is a conflict, you try to work out a compromise.

So, if she does not like you to wear heels, and you have extremely strong feelings that make you want to wear

heels, you have to somehow find the middle ground. Both should give in a bit.

If very strong preconceived ideas are involved it may take much time and lots of love.

And if together you cannot work things out, maybe you should not be together.

And sometimes it is just that your SO is trying to protect you against yourself. Like she might be afraid that you

make a fool of yourself, or loose your job, or get beaten up, or whatever. A good discussion can help here as

    well.

  8. I agree fully that some of these things would be very worthwhile to know. But they are not easy to extract. Just try to imagine how you would try to find out which percentage of the male population wears regularly pantyhose? About the no option. I think that people who are not religious are less interested in the poll. Of course this is my private opinion. Explaining this would probably draw reactions, so it is best to leave it at that. If you ask the average Japanese whether (s)he is religious, I always get the answer no. Yet most of those people will visit this temple on this day of the year and that temple on that day of the year, etc. They have shinto rites for one thing, buddhistic rites for something else and the fashion at the moment is to get married according to christian customs. How are you going to classify all that? Maybe, if, after some research, someone can come up with a rather wide poll that is going to give useful answers, one could try to include one question about religion. In that case people will answer the poll for its other merits, and the one religion question will be answered "on the fly". Science is not always easy if you want to be careful...... Y.

  9. If you create a yes/no only poll, I have no idea what the result will mean. My guess is that the percentage of 'yes-people' that vote, will be much higher than the percentage of 'no-people' that will vote. There is no way to tell what those percentages are, and hence the only thing you are left with are the absolute numbers, but there is no way you can draw more conclusions than that. Hence it appears to me that it is something we better leave alone. Creating meaningful polls is actually surprisingly difficult. A very famous one is where they asked boys and girls with how many girls resp boys they had had relations. The average answer of the boys was about twice as high as that of the girls! ...????... Y.

  10. I do not think the outcome of the poll would carry any relevance beyond the number of people that answer yes. Most of the people who would answer no would not answer at all. You can see this already in several of the threads that have subjects like "do you wear heels to church?" In my view it is better not to touch the subject here. If you have any doubt, you should ask Tech first. He is the one who cleaned up the mess and banned a number of people a number of years ago. One of the people who got banned was our great expert at polls (ds1918 or whatever number). The title of the thread was "Do you as a heel wearing person believe in God?" I think in the end the whole thread was removed. I never saw the mails that really ended it all as they were removed very quickly. If you are interested in knowing what percentage of the people here are religious, look first for official statistics on religion in various countries. Then try to take an appropriate weighted average and you will probably get a number that is slightly high, but not too far off from what you might find here if you were to have a poll in which all members would answer honestly. It does require quite some homework. Y.

  11. Please don't. We have had problems with religious subjects before and several people (of otherwise good standing) got banned then. I think this was before you joined, but Bubba should remember. Many posts were removed, so it will be hard to find traces of it. The rules are: no politics and no religion. Please respect those. Y.

  12. Yep - Now they have to attempt to lockdown software instead of a more hard coded bios chip. I will have to review what systems have the ability to be dual boot capable. There is no way I will resort to only using Windows. I'm a linux guy. If they can't share, Windows goes out the door.

Same here. I just lost another 15 minutes because windows decided to update a driver while the device was being used. Nice mess.

What do airconditioning and computers have in common?

Everything goes fine until you open windows.

  13. The study was obviously biased though. It only used females as the objects of its study. The same conclusion for men and women could had been reached had the study included both and not revealed their identity wearing the same type uniforms and heels/flats that are properly fitted for each participant. Unlike the results of this study, men and women are known to also have very attractive qualities in flats and lower heels, as well as high heels.

That would be the follow up study.....

It is easy to say that some research is ridiculous and why do we spend our money on it, if the press does not bother to say why this research was done. Remember Sara Palin making indignant remarks about research on fruit flies and trying to ridicule it. She had no idea how important genetic research is on fruit flies because it is one of the simplest genetic systems we know and it is easy to extend it over many generations.

Just imagine that they would like to determine what is the optimal heel height for different types of women to look as sexy as possible. The movie industry would be happy to incorporate that in the next James Bond movie. Maybe the CIA would like to use it too. And whatever....

Believe me. Nowadays it is not very easy to get research funded. You always have to convince some committee and there will be lots of good competition.

  14. As soon as you sit down, though, the game is up, because your pants/jeans ride up enough to expose your entire foot. So if you are in a restaurant, at a bar, or on a park bench, there's no hiding.

    Steve

Right! A few days ago I went with my wife to a restaurant and I was wearing 4 inch heels with pants long enough to hide them during walking (with shorter heels they would have dragged over the ground).

My wife told me that in the restaurant some people behind me were looking rather amazed at my feet.

  15. Did you try any of them? Does one give a better fit than the other? They are not my style, so my opinion may not be worth very much, but personally, given the money, I would prefer the right one, but I would never buy them without trying. Y.

  16. Really??? I think constructive criticism is all ways important... BUT, to verbaly berate someone then pull the "i'm only helping" card, is just sad. Especially coming from Grandpa Munster.

This place is as bad as a room full of baptist.

Do not be too upset. Some people are a bit more direct than others, even though they mean well.

The people from the north of the Netherlands are famous for it.

Of course it is nicer to say: "Personally I would have.......", but in they end he did try to give some hints.

You will find that the majority of people here are very friendly and some know a lot about shoes and can help you very much to improve your techniques/designs further.

    Y.

  17. I think many guys get out of bed in the morning and just want to get dressed as soon as possible without caring exactly what they are wearing provided it does not draw attention and the shoes are comfortable. This amounts to: some underwear, a t-shirt, yesterdays jeans (they were still next to the bed) and yesterdays sneakers. On Sunday they may switch to the Sunday sneakers and a clean pair of jeans. Maybe it is part of the genes to be ready as quickly as possible for an emergency. Modern city life is a bit different, but genetic adaptation is a bit slow. If you would draw less attention with heels than without, they would probably all be wearing heels. Big advantage: putting on a pair of pumps can be done really fast. Happy New Year to all. Y.
