  1. Eng: Keep your pecker up = US: {censored}

    Eng: Beavering = US: {censored}

    And a gesture:

    Eng: 2 fingers raised with palm facing away = {censored}

    US: 2 fingers raised with palm facing away = 2 items or number 2

    Eng: No 2 = US: #2

    Eng: Tart = US: Tramp

    Eng: Tramp = US: Bum

    Eng: Bum = US: Fanny

    Eng: Fanny = US: {important place for tramp}

    I'm fairly fluent English/American, what fools me is Canada where they sometimes adopt British usages, sometimes American.

    England/Britain/UK = a bit complicated for residents, let alone foreigners. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Uk

    May I commend this as a partial explanation. The piano sound has gone a bit funny but that doesn't really matter.

  2. I've never seen bigger than EU42 in UK Nine West. Remember that most, if not all, NW footwear in the UK is marked with US sizes so don't get your hopes up when you see a size 9. I'm also EU43/UK9. I've tried a on a few shoes and boots in NW and most are definitely too small.

  3. If any of you know where I can order normal fashion boots in a size 11(UK), I would love to hear from you.

    If you want more conservative styles then Evans go up to UK11 and their footwear tends to run big so you may want their UK10.

  4. When you buy gasoline, is it liters or gallons ? Distances are in miles or kilometers

    In the UK petrol and diesel are sold in litres (not liters:smile:). Distances always in miles, speeds always in miles per hour. Fuel consumption usually quoted in miles per gallon. If you want real confusion go to Ireland. Although they have officially changed over to kilometres there are plenty of distances on road signs still given in miles. And don't some of those leprechauns wear thighboots?

  5. The National Trust (a charity that looks after a lot of countryside and many old buildings in the UK) bans sharp heels from inside its properties. Look towards the bottom right of Page 1 of this leaflet which is typical of all NT properties. They usually define sharp heels as those covering an area smaller than a postage stamp. They offer protective slippers to those who have to remove their shoes.

  6. I haven't done any IQ tests since playing with Eysenck's "Know your own IQ" book when I was in my teens. I was getting mensa entry scores back then but I'm sure quite a few of the old brain cells have died since then. I never did join mensa, despite being encouraged by a former girlfriend. Not sure I wanted to join that kind of dating club:smile: Also I'm a Marxist (Groucho) - I wouldn't want to join any club that would have me as a member.

  7. The main reasons they didn't come were 1. They were worried about encountering someone they knew and 2. they were worried about someone finding out about their "hobby".

    3. Although they live in London they were a long way from London at the time.

    Some may say that this isn't an adequate excuse. I went to the 2006(?) heelmeet at The Miller and enjoyed meeting other folks from the forum.

  8. Assuming it's a PC running Windows 2000, XP, (or heaven help us) Vista: If the problem is slow auto-repeat then: START>SETTINGS>CONTROL PANEL>KEYBOARD There are setting for repeat delayand repeat rate. Fine tune to suit. If the problem is overall slow response to keystrokes then it's a bit more complicated. Could be unwanted tasks running. Could be virus or malware problems. Start with CTRL-ALT_DELETE to bring up the task list, go to the "processes" tab and see whch ones are taking lots of CPU time. Then I start to get out of my depth - others will know rather more Most unlikely to be the keybaord itself though if you have (or can borrow) a spare there's no harm in trying.

  9. I've been following this thread and wondering what the fuss was about. I was hesitant to say anything but now Amanda has written with good sense I've looked back too and have to agree with her. I can't say I actually like those kind of OTT TV pictures but equally I can't see anything to frighten the horses. Unlike some blatant examples that I've had the misfortune to see before the mods got to them. I'm glad to say that somebody who recently posted some very explicit pictures was banned PDQ.

    Perhaps the OP has posted some dubious pictures previously that have needed attention from the mods and these are being conflated with the ones in this thread?
