Heel Comparison

I've seen this image before, and it's only relavent for one shoe size of which is unknown. I would love to see chart with size on one axis, heel height on the other and instep angle on axis intercepts.

This picture is grossly inaccurate.

If we assume that the highest heel is 20 cm tall,

the height of the rest of them from the right to

the left is: 16cm, 13.4cm, 12.4cm, 9.7cm, and 7.5cm.

The heel height alone is meaningless unless you also

know the shoe size, the sole thickness, and the shape

of the shank. Nobody has the time to convert this data

into the only yardstick that maters – the shoe angle:

I just thought it was interesting to see the progression of heel height and how the calf muscle changes, etc. I didn't mean it to be anything too "scientific". BTW, my favorites are the 12 and 16cm (I assume 5" and 6"). Ballets really don't do anything for me. If any other members are up to doing a similar more "scientific" picture, that would be nice too! Perhaps two of the most important aspects of high heel heights is how do they look on your feet? and, how much taller do they make you? The first one is a personal consideration. If they shoes look good on your feet, fit good and are comfortable, wear them with confidence and pride. The heigh of the heel isn't very representative of how much taller you're going to be wearing a specific height of heel. In other words, wearing a 6" heel isn't going to make you 6" taller. There is a whole lot of geometry involved. A more accurate measure of increase in height would be to measure how high your ankle bone is from the floor when you are barefooted and how high it is when you are wearing higher heels. (There is a diagram posted or linked to on Jenny's website that illustrates this phenomena quite clearly.)

Being mentally comfortable in your own mind is the key to wearing heels in public.

I have noticed an interesting phenomenon. I have two pairs of thigh boots with identical heel heights, one pair was from TLSB and has an elegant curving heel and nice almond point toes and the other is an unidentified brand from Ebay that have thicker and straighter heels and a more rounded toe shape.

However, the TLSB ones don't look as high as the others as the gap between the heel-tip and the fore-part is greater. So the TLSB pair look like the 12cm pair and the others more like the 16cm pair.

No, I clearly said that I have two pairs with the same heel height. I also have a dozen or so with the same heel height (but different to above) that come from the same manufacturer so no noticeable difference. I also have several pairs of assorted heel heights in a variety of colours and fabrics.

It's only guys that see a science in heel height  - hence so few girls on this site.

Although I can appreciate all the math and science involved with size, arch, etc, etc, etc. However, everyone missed the main point of the post and that is just the athestic view of the increasing heel and the effect it has on the legs, ankles, calves, etc. I just thought it was an "interesting" picture to see how the various sized heels change the look of the leg overall. I can appreciate the asthetic value alone of a foot in high heels. But my brain always want to know why.
