Yesterday, mom wore a belt around her waist, which she has had many years and is the same one she used many years ago for discipline at home! Anyone else here either received or given the belt/stick at home?

No not in my days, thought that kind of thing stopped around the war years, (I was hatched in 1951).

Does the older generations have the respect of the younger? Does the "rod" help with disciplining or does it promote the fear of being caught? Parents, guardians, and other authority figures often lay down rules that seem to contradict the ideals they espouse. So when the the reigns are lifted, the liberated sole tends to disregard the rules they were under while trying to find what they can determine to be the way they think it should be.

i can see a swat on a two year old to get their attention as sometimes that's all that works. After about three it just leads to a resentment of authority.

Very true, and I totally am with you Eggnog. This kind of punishment should come timely just for once.

For those saying it is not good "to hurt" our kids remember this thing: life hurts a LOT MORE.
