fanovheels Posted October 30, 2009 Posted October 30, 2009 Yesterday, mom wore a belt around her waist, which she has had many years and is the same one she used many years ago for discipline at home! Anyone else here either received or given the belt/stick at home?
dww Posted November 4, 2009 Posted November 4, 2009 No not in my days, thought that kind of thing stopped around the war years, (I was hatched in 1951). life is not a rehearsal
Dr. Shoe Posted November 4, 2009 Posted November 4, 2009 Nope, me neither. Graduate footwear designer able to advise and assist on modification and shoe making projects.
tightsnheels Posted November 4, 2009 Posted November 4, 2009 Oh yes, in our home that was the standard punishment. T&H "Look for the woman in the dress, if there is no dress there is no woman."-Coco Channel
roniheels Posted November 4, 2009 Posted November 4, 2009 I received a swat now and then from parents and teachers, but never with a belt or stick.
Histiletto Posted November 4, 2009 Posted November 4, 2009 Does the older generations have the respect of the younger? Does the "rod" help with disciplining or does it promote the fear of being caught? Parents, guardians, and other authority figures often lay down rules that seem to contradict the ideals they espouse. So when the the reigns are lifted, the liberated sole tends to disregard the rules they were under while trying to find what they can determine to be the way they think it should be.
Eggnog Posted November 5, 2009 Posted November 5, 2009 i can see a swat on a two year old to get their attention as sometimes that's all that works. After about three it just leads to a resentment of authority.

After about three it just leads to a resentment of authority. Very true, and I totally am with you Eggnog. This kind of punishment should come timely just for once. For those saying it is not good "to hurt" our kids remember this thing: life hurts a LOT MORE.
