  1. You get shy when your legs are bare? I get shy exposing my feet, haha. That's why you won't see me wear sandals too much. Open toes, no problem. You know what? I guess that's one of the reasons why I wear sneakers sometimes. Hmmm. The insecurities we have.....

In our case, we just keep it covered. You for your legs and me for my feet. Having a lighter skin tone is nice too. If they joke about you being a vampire, maybe dress up as one for Halloween haha. You will look so sexy, even I will want you to bite me. Seriously.

I'll bet you and I dressed up as sexy vampires or anything else for that matter on Halloween can get a lot of guys to drool!

Careful, the floor might be slippery when wet with drool and us in heels :)

  2. Back then, I didn't wear high heels much. The highest I believe was like 3" or something like that and it was only for formal dances and special occassions with parents and friends. That's it. Even then, I wore sneakers quite a bit. Other days, I wore loafers, lol. It's been awhile since I was in high school. The good old days. I sound like I'm 50 huh? Now, things are completely different. It's like the opposite, lol. High heels, and wear it often.

LOL, I like your sense of humour Karen, you are always a fun person to chat with.

I remember in highschool, heels were what the cool girls wore. It was what people wore to fit in with the in crowd along with makeup and hiking up our skirts until they were micro minis.

  3. THe sneakers are generally when I'm by myself anyways, but outside of my private home or car, people usually see me in heels. Even at home, I don't wear sneakers often. It just depends on my mood I guess.

But when you are driving with other people in the car, don't they question why you have a pair of sneakers lying in the car?

Do you keep a lot of spare things in your car Karen?

I tend to keep a lot of utilities in the car. Everything from pencil, notepad, maps, umbrella, spare pantyhose, spare socks, makeup. The spare pantyhose is in case I get a run and the spare socks is in case I am standing for too long in my high heel boots, I get tired and want extra padding.

  4. There always seems to be newer styles that go with each new generation of fashion that I like ...... I don't really have a favorite pair although sometimes my most worn in, most worn to work, most worn pair becomes my favorite as they are my most comfortable. In my case, my most comfortable pair right now is a pair with English riding boots inspired style which I can wear out on weekends but not to work as they are flats. My favorite pair with heels has a 3" heel which looks gorgeous but is a lot more tiring then flats

  5. Way to go Leigh in letting him know when he crossed the line :) My friends aren't jerks and they are not trying to be rude either so I wouldn't not bonk them on the head. If they were, I can instantly turn into an ice princess and freeze them with just a stare LOL My friends are just curious as I wear either knee length skirts or longer, pantyhose and knee high boots a lot. My legs are almost never exposed which piques their curiosity

  6. Yes, where I am seems to have a fairly casual approach to dress. There was a senior manager a while ago who tried to encourage a collar and tie approach for the men, but he's not with us any more. However, it does give me the freedom to indulge some of my eccentricities.

With the change in senior management, I take it you are free to wear anything you want, whenever you want now?

What sort of heels have you been wearing to work lately that might make you hot during the brief periods you have them on?

I am considering using the idea of baby powder, consisting of talc or corn starch to keep that fresh feeling before I go to work. That might prevent my from sweating and making my wool socks damp everyday at work as I wear those and pantyhose inside my padded fur lined boots.

When I am sitting at my desk and no one is watching, there have been times when I have been tempted to unzip my high heeled boots to air out a little bit but I would be so embarrassed if anyone ever saw me do so!

  7. I can see you are knowledgeable about dancing. :)

Thank you. Like yourself, I have done modern dance and a dash of mambo and rumba.

Do any of the other ladies who dance care to voice their opinions here?

I find the more padding I wear when dancing for a long time, the less tired I am. This is not only me. Many other girls in my dance class have come to the exact same conclusion.

The past weekend, my friends and I attended a social dance with others from my dance class. It was great fun, there was a live band, the dance floor was spacious, drinks were reasonably priced and there were a lot of guys to dance with. I had a lot of fun practising the dances we learned in class and incorporating new moves I learned from my dance partners.

I had started out dancing in my black knee high fur lined boots with 3" heel. I had on pantyhose and one pair of wool socks. My feet started to get tired and it got a little painful after dancing for 2 hours. I did not want to leave yet as I was having a great time. I got my spare pair of wool socks out from my purse, layered it on over my pantyhose and first pair of wool socks and squished my fur lined high heel boots back on. Dancing in heels now was less painful with so much padding although it got a bit warm. Maybe next time I should buy my boots a half size larger to accommodate the padded socks and pantyhose I need for dancing?

I am relatively new here but of the very few ladies who I have talked to, Karen, Alexa to be specific, they have the ability to walk in very high heels but they take them off whenever they get a chance and never wear them for any length of time.

For people like you and I who not only need to walk but to dance in them, well, padding seems more like a necessity then a luxury. I too bring a spare pair of pantyhose or thick padded socks when I know I need to stand or dance for a significant period of time in heels. If it is a more formal event, I would usually go with multiple pairs of pantyhose under my high heeled boots. I also buy my certain boots a half size larger if I will be wearing layered pantyhose or one size larger if I will be wearing thick wool socks with pantyhose inside my boots. Then I know I can go all day or all night :P

The thing is, how to keep from getting too warm when wearing pantyhose and socks inside a pair of fur lined high heeled boots?

  8. I almost always wear nylons (pantyhose more then stockings). I love how suntan pantyhose gives my skin some color. While I love to show off my legs when wearing my knee high boots and pantyhose, I get shy if my legs are bare. My skin looks way too pale, vampire white is what my friends jokingly called it. Thus my legs are almost always covered by at least one, if not more layers of nylons and pants, skirts, boots, etc.

  9. Hello Alexa, Working in a university must have its own unique dress code. I know in many colleges throughout Europe & the States, students tend to be so focused on studies that fashion is not on their radar. I have often times seen students, especially near test time, wear Barbie pajamas with flip flops to class, no makeup and hair so messy Medusa would cringe. I take it you can dress very casually at your office too, right?

  10. What brands make these micro mesh stockings? Are they available in pantyhose as well? For important functions like big meetings, meeting certain clients, attending weddings, attending semi-formal parties, I usually go without socks in my boots and instead wear two pairs of thick pantyhose. Thicker pantyhose tends to run less and two pairs reinforce each other very well to the point that I am very confident that it won't run on me. It looks really bad if you are taking pictures and the run in your pantyhose shows!

  11. I can see how running for the cross country team would strengthen your calf muscles significantly with swimming and tennis helping to a lesser extent. I take it prior to any competitions, you had to stay off tall heels for fear of tiring them out before a swim meet, tennis competition or a 26 mile marathon?

  12. That just makes me think of my chocolate brown, pull on, knee high Steve Madden boots. I wore then on a date and had on my dancers pantyhose as well as a pair of thick wool socks on inside the boots. My date was playfully pulling on them but he was no where near even getting them loose, let alone pulling one off hahaha

  13. LOL Karen, I think you are the only girl I know who prefers sneakers to flip flops but you manage to pull off that look well and without socks too! If I am not driving on the bundesautobahn, I almost always leave my knee high boots on. Since my heels are usually between 2.5" to 3.5" high anyways, it is not too hard for driving. Also, unlike some quick change experts here, I find it a hassle to unzip my boots, peel them off and put on my sneakers. Then repeat the process but in reverse when I stop the car. Also, if my fur lined leather boots get a little bit steamy, I prefer if no smell escaped into my car. LOL

  14. As for waterproof shoes, I don't have anything that can be completely waterproof. When it rains out, I'll wear boots. They keep my feet dry for the most part. There are times I get caught wearing pumps in the rain, but that's purely by chance. Crazy weather!!!

For most other girls in California though, isn't it sandals or flip flops regardless of whether it is rain or shine? That way, if they get wet, they can just quickly wipe themselves dry. I do know that the area north of the golden state rains a lot.

  15. When I'm not in boots, mainly I'm in pumps (or courts as people tend to call them in the UK) or Mary-Jane styles. The former I can get on and off pretty quickly, whereas the latter require a bit of fiddling with the strap. Even so, I can have my shoes on and be ready for action at a moment's notice! Karen pointed out some concealed platforms from Endless on another thread which are the kind of thing I might like (I might even order some myself), so you get the idea.

    Alexa

You say you can get your boots off quicker then your courts-pumps/mary-janes? Impressive. I take it they are short ankle boots? Are the boots lace up, pull on or zip up?

Given the wet weather climate where you are, what % of time time do you wear the boots and what % of time time do you wear the courts?

Like yourself, I have both knee high boots as well as high heel pumps with ankle strap although I tend to wear my knee high boots almost all the time unless it is a very hot day. I keep then on the entire time I am at the office. My co-workers sometimes joke about trying to get me out of my boots but I feel shy about exposing my bare legs.

  16. Does anyone here have male friends/significant others/co-workers/classmates who admire your heels but also are always trying to get you out of them? I am a rather shy, conservative girl so I tend to wear knee length or longer skirts and knee high boots with heels a lot. I am almost never bare legged. Even with that skirt and boots combination, I still wear pantyhose in case my skirt rides up when I sit down. Guys seem to be interested in seeing my legs and seem to want to get my to unzip my boot when sitting down at a movie theater or wear mini skirts or go without pantyhose ..... is this just the guys I know or are most guys like this?

  17. I know what you mean. I also try my best to make sure my the tops of my pantyhose does not expose itself between the top of my skirt and my blouse. When wearing suntan pantyhose that way, most guys will think I am going with bare flawless legs with a nice tan to them. I love that look although only my knee is visible between the hem of my knee length skirt and the tops of my knee length boots.

  18. It really depends on the type you get. There are padded linings inside mine, but they're very thin. Just enough to give you some comfort in high heels. I can stand in my boots all day!!! Literally and won't get tired. You can probably add more to it if you have really sensitive feet, but I feel the original design are adequate.

You have very strong ankle and calf muscles Karen! I envy you!

I am wearing a pair of high heel stiletto boots today with a skirt suit. I did a 2 hour standing presentation on single nucleotide polymorphisms today and to prevent getting tired, I chose a pair of boots of a soft fur lining on the inside plus I wore a pair of thick wool socks and pantyhose for padding. The good news is that my ankles and calf muscles are not too tired thanks to the many layers of padding. My feet are a bit warm though.
