  1. Yes, I suppose my dancing style would be described as shuffling and jiggling too! The other thing platform boots are very good for is going to see live music. I can see over the heads of the crowd in a way I never could with flats on. You'd be a bit unsteady for energetic moshing, but usually I'm there to enjoy the show, which is much easier if I can actually see!

Alexa, if mosh pits are where you go during concerts, wouldn't sneakers or steel toe construction footwear be more inline with your needs as opposed to platforms?

  2. I am quite surprised to find so many people on this list like to wear nothing under their boots. For me, if I do not wear my pantyhose and socks underneath my boots, my boots will chafe, my boots will smell, sweat will ruin the leather or fur lining of my boots and most importantly, it will be an uncomfortable experience. Uggs or Emu are the only exceptions where I can see how going barefoot in them would be okay. Of course, I am sure you have developed a system to be comfortable without socks or nylons. For myself, by wearing socks made of wool under my boots, it absorbs the sweat so smell is not a problem. I can then wear my pantyhose over my socks to give my legs that flawless glossy look above my boots. I find it comfortable that way, no worries about sweat, no chafing and also the socks prevent my pantyhose from catching and running.

  3. It does take time to learn to walk in heels as it is not the natural human gait. Dancing requires a different set of more advanced skills when compared to walking thus the difficulty level is even higher. Dances such as tango, cha cha, waltz, rhumba, foxtrot, swing and lambada have moves which require significant spinning, stabilizing and directing shift on a dime skills. Such skills require a lot of time to acquire, especially when done on tall heels. You might want to try these skills wearing sneakers or flats first if you have not already done so. Many dancers use a lot of padding to offset doing all these moves in heels. Gel pad inserts are common as are using padded boots to hide thick nylons and several layers of thick socks to cushion the tall heels. I like your idea of wearing fur lined boots as the fur lining will provide excellent padding on top of what your thick socks and dancers pantyhose give you. The three layers combined should be a lot of padding. I will try the fur lined boots, thick socks and thick dancers pantyhose when I go dancing in 3" heels as well.

  4. Unlike most of the members on this list, I am not very good at walking in very high heels. I wear my knee high boots quite often as they are much easier to walk in then pumps or sandals. I love having lots of padding in my shoes or boots so it feels comfortable, almost like wearing sneakers. Because of this, I almost always have both nylons and socks on inside my boots. If I am afraid of my nylons running, I have been known to wear two pairs of nylons and no socks inside my boots. Does anyone else do this?

  5. I have been ballroom dancing for about long time and some of my gfs find dancing in high heeled boots with minimal padding very tiring, especially if they dancing for a long time, and I experience the same, especially when breaking into a new pair of leather boots

Lately I have been wearing a dress with a knee length hemline and a pair of gorgeous knee high boots with 5 inch heel and inside the boots I put a pair of thicker padding. I find this way, I can dance a lot longer without getting tired. It really helps.

Also, it's good idea to rest your bootlegs on a pillow liked cushion when taking a break, it helps the circulation on my legs, becuae I am not taking my boots off.

What is your favorite ballroom dance?

Do you wear dancers pantyhose or thick socks in your boots for extra padding when dancing to offset the very high heel?

  6. How many of you wear leggings with your favor shoes or boots? I usually wear jeans but I am fond of leggings as well. They are tight fit and warm. I prefer to wear my high heel boots over them. Sometimes I would put on my wool coat or sweater dress on top depends on my mood and the weather.

and one more thing don't tie your hair and add a few waves if you can and wear a nice black beret. The point is to make the tights stand out.

Good luck and don't forget the most important accessory- CONFIDENCE!

There are a lot of styles of patterned tights/pantyhose as well as glossy tights/pantyhose that I am particularly fond of. I wear those often, both to work as well as when I am out for social functions after work. The problem is that since my boots are typically knee high, I have to wear a shorter skirt for the nice tights to be very visible. Do you have that issue as well?

  7. I typically wear a pair of knee high dress boots to work. They go well with my skirts as I have them in black, brown, dark red, skin tone and white. For some reason, I feel naked without them on at the office as if I forgot to wear something important, like my bra. Only if it is really hot in the summer do I switch to my ankle boots or my pumps. Never sandals but that is just my personal preference.

  8. Unlike some of you here, I tend to be rather shy and conservative with my fashion style. Although I love to wear dresses and skirts, my legs are almost never bare in public. I always wear my tights/pantyhose with my knee high suede or leather boots. If I want to go for a sexier look, I sometimes wear long socks that stick out of my boots and go over my knees. On hotter days, I sometimes switch to calf high boots, cowgirl boots, ankle boots or gladiator boots but it is +12C right now so I am comfortable in my knee high leather boots with chunky heel.

  9. When no one is around at home, I wear flats. It could be my bunny slippers, it could be my sneakers, it might be my riding boots but always flats. That way, I can save my muscles for when I am around people and I can look good in heels.

  10. There are times when one wants to purposefully purchase footwear a half size to a size larger depending if you are using US or EU measurements. If I plan to wear thick pantyhose or thick socks inside my boots, I will always buy larger to make sure that they won't be too snug with my pantyhose and socks inside. As for pantyhose and socks, I like to wear both as it gives me greater padding and makes walking in heels a lot easier for me.
