  1. Zebraheels,

Your comments support why I shop at Bakers and carry their discount card. I know from chatting with the Milwaukee Bakers store manager that she requires her employees to wear heels for at 2/3 of their shift and many other stores are similar. The Bakers store in Gurnee,IL had a guy named Darrel who worked there for some time who wore heels to and from work. When I asked the store manager how the interaction was with customers I was told it was not only positive but he was one of the lead shoe sellers! I have had very good rapport with Bakers staff in various states and the result is positively euphoric if you enter a Bakers store WEARING some Bakers heels.

I have never had a problem at Bakers. I have grown into more expensive shoes over the years, but have very fond memories of shopping at Bakers stores. Most often got great help from the sales girls, and even from the occasional guy.

  2. Hilarious. That was me ! Was it between about 10am and noon ? My GF had organized a shoe buying trip to Nordstrom. She had it all arranged with the sales lady. I tried on shoes for like 2 hrs. Lots of Prada, Jimmy Choo, Miu Miu, Michael Kors, and Joand and David. We splurged. Bought one pair of Prada pump, a Jimmy Choo sandal (on sale), and a pair of Joan and David pumps. Also bought a pair of Jimmy Choo's for the GF. Next time, come and say hi !

  3. I probably buy one or two pairs of shoes a month (yes i am a real shoe addict) and always try them on in the stores. Mainly Nordstrom and Michael Kors these days, but I used to do the same at Bakers, Nine West and DSW. There is really nothing to it, and it is loads of fun when the sales girls actually bring out new styles to try on. At places like Nordstrom the staff is clearly trained to give men the same courtesy and service when buying high heels than they would provide to women. Haven't had a bad experience there. I also buy clothes there and can always try them on. Just be confident, dress in style, and do it !

  4. It is so much fun trying on shoes in a store. When I first start doing this I limited myself to stores like Payless and DSW where the shoes are all available on the rack, but I quickly realized that it is so much more fun to interact with the sales girl. Now I just happily stroll into Nordstrom, Nine West or Bakers and try on a variety of shoes. Two weeks ago I walked around San Francisco wearing Jeans leggings and high heel boots over them, something I would have never done a few years ago. Got barely any reaction. But did try one a least five pairs at Nordstrom. The ones I liked they didn't have in my size (Halogen Nora. cognac color) so I ended up ordering them online. I have started occasionally working with a personal shopper at Nordstrom to get a more diversified wardrobe as well. THe first time it was setup by my girlfriend and we must have tried on at least 50 pieces of clothing and shoes. So much fun ! Since then I am very comfortable browsing and trying on the women's clothing and shoes. I regularly get compliments and I even get sales associates fight for my commission. The last time I went my personal shopper was not there, so I ended up buying a nice jacket from another sales women (who had me try on at least a half dozen other cardigans and skirts while I was there). Next day I already got a call on my cell from my personal shopper, just to make sure "we were still ok" In the end most of the good sales people genuinely like clothes and shoes, and are more than happy to share that interest with you. I also think that when they see you in women's shoes or clothes they realize that you can look very good in them. The only stores I skip are the ones with the bored teenage sales people who look like they hate their job and couldn't care less about serving you.

  5. Hi HHlover Awesome story. Thanks for sharing it. Casino's are great places to hang out with heels. I have been in Vegas wearing heels all day. No problem. The evening before Halloween I even did a short stint in a skirt. Your Oxford's are great. Are they fairly comfortable ? I would recommend buying some women's jeans. You will find that the cut falls much better over a HH shoe, in particular if you buy bootcut jeans.

  6. I could maybe see having an issue at a more 'female-only' store (say a women's shoe boutique), where other (women) customers might be expecting more intimate shopping experience. However, at a store like a Payless (that sells shoes for the entire family), and even a department store (say a Macy's), where 5' away might be men's loafers instead of women's pumps, I'm not sure there could be an issue.

I buy at Nine West all the time in person. Nobody seems to mind. Some of the women in there trying on shoes even give nice comments and ask for comments on which pair they should buy. Others in the store act oblivious, but never a bad reaction.

Many of the sales people love shoes and don't mind sharing that.

  7. I would say to figure out soon if she likes you in heels or not. When I told my wife she was quite OK with it. I think she was worried I was going to tell her something far worse. But after years she grew less and less accepting making me slip again into just wearing them when she was not around or in my home office. We are separated now, and the heels were definitely not the main problem, just one of those things we could neither agree on, nor talk about. I am now with someone who is not only accepting, but also loves it. She even bought me shoes for my X-mas. She not only likes the heels, but likes even more that it makes me happy. Don't make heels the focal point of your relation, but decide early if you want someone who will accept it, or you are willing to "conform" Something in between may just not work over time

  8. For the guys that are still sitting on the fence about trying on shoes in stores, I say, go for it. I have been doing it now for more than five or six years and it has been almost universally pleasant. Probably did it a hundred times or so. Never been rejected, never been laughed at by a store person. Worst is a cold reception, but even that has been very rare. Remember, most people who work in shoe stores and visit them LOVE shoes ! Many times I have engaged in very pleasant conversation with sales people and customers. Just bought two more pairs at Nine West last week.

  9. This weekend I took the train to New York. On the train from Boston I wore these all the time. Clearly visible to everyone. On Sunday I walked around New York in them all day. Walked about 50 blocks ! No bad reactions at all On Monday evening I got a purple pedicure with my friend who was in New York and then wore high heel stiletto sandals to the Harry Potter movie. New York is a great place to heel People are in general well dressed and a bit alternative.

  10. I finally caved in and bought some of the giant platform sandals. These are completely over the top. I usually don't go for this style, but I tried them on at DSW in Manhattan over the weekend and did not buy them. Went on to regret it for several days. So today I went to my local DSW and bought them ! Despite the humongous heel they are very comfortable and fit me like a glove.

  11. I probably bought 50 or 60 pairs in stores. Each time I try on at least 3 or 4 pairs, so that is a couple hundred shoes I tried on in stores ! Never really had a bad reaction in the store. Overwhelmingly the sales staff is helpful and supportive. I many cases I even get nice compliments from other customers and we engage in show discussions. On rare occasions I get a customer who can't get over it and keeps on staring. But that is rare and when it happens I actually enjoy it. Best stores for me have been Nine West stores. Occasionally also Bakers and Aldos. I always wear heels when going in. Just go and do it.

  12. I look forward to wearing sandals again with polished toes. My favorite ! Just bought a pair of peep toe slingbacks at Nine West (called James). The manager at the store knows me very well and I get awesome service from here. When I am in the store I get personalized service regardless of how many other people are in the store.

  13. I have wonderful experiences at Nine West stores. Over half of my collection is from there (about 30 pairs of Nine West) and all are bought and tried on in stores. I find that their staff usually treats me very well. Often I am in there for an hour trying on all kinds of shoes. These days I visit the store in Braintree (Massachusetts) as the manager and sales girls there are very helpful. I also like their shoes. They are pretty good value and look awesome. My most recent purchase is the Peanut boot, which is NOT a high heel boot, but I love it so much and wear it to work on many days.
