  1. .... because the sole of the shoe or boot is normally made flat (without curve or bend, that is), wearing the shoe or boot puts a huge strain on your ankles. Lowering the heel height by half an inch removes a large proportion of that strain. Another way to remove some of that ankle stress would be to curve the arch more (like in the superarch shoes made by 6IHF), but no UK ballet shoe or boot makers that I have asked to do this have any last that they can do that with.

  2. I saw a few of their items on sale in Camden, London, a few days ago, too. Wow. That online catalogue has 73 pages of dress shoes... and nothing is classified. You just have to click through all 73 pages.... I see a lot of "knock offs" of some very well known designer styles in there too.

  3. A couple of days ago, Camden again. Two girls with a guy in skinny jeans and 4 inch leopard print court shoes. Jeans so long you couldn't see the heels except when sat down. Toes were obviously visible. They visited just about every shoe shop in the road... Spoke to one of the girls to give the address of this site, and discovered they were all from Sweden.

  4. Sometimes people aren't asking the question that they really want to ask, so I give new members a bit more leeway in that regard. In any case this is a "discussion forum", and you never know where the conversation might eventually lead, once started. However, yes I do sometimes despair that people ask something that could easily be found with a very quick search on Google or Yahoo. In that cae I would much prefer to see a post that begins: "Look what I found; what do you think of that/those?" Anyway, as ever, if you don't like the topic of a thread then you are free to avoid posting in it. :-) I've done that.

  5. As I was looking at the sole of a pair of black suede thigh-high lace-up 5-inch-heel pointy boots trying to find out their size, someone grabbed the other end, away from me, and then tried them on... and bought them. They were only 35 quid too. I'll never know if they would have fit, but they were marked one size higher than I normally wear. Grrrrr.

  6. I believe that Natacha Marro, also based in London (in the same road as where TLSB used to be), can do ballet shoes and boots in the TLSB style.

I have no idea as to quality, but I believe that the prices are around GBP 300 for knee boots and about GBP 260 for shoes of various styles with ballet heel.

  7. If you ever get to London, then there are a dozen shops in Camden High Street alone that can sort you out, and then there are several dozen more dotted around the capital. In fact, any major city should have at least one; especially look for anywhere that advertises any Goth clothing as a starter, as they often also carry a range of very high heels too.

  8. Heh, welcome aspoint_girl.

I think you'd really like the pointy wars story about life in an office wearing pointy heels ... if only I could find it again out there on the wide wide wide web.

Other people still remember it too.

    Oh heck. That is you.

Well, I enjoyed those stories a lot. Where did they go?

  9. No image found so far, but last Thursday Emma Bunton switched on the Christmas lights in Covent Garden.

She was wearing a short, red jacket buttoned up over a short black flared skirt that only just peeped out from under the coat, along with dark black opaque tights or stockings. From the back there were too many heads in the way to see what was on her feet.

Initially she sang "two become one" and the old 60's classic "downtown" followed by a new tune, before her TV show dancing partner was brought on stage. She then explained they had been practising some new moves, and asked if the audience wanted to see a sample... and then apologised that "it is going to be difficult because I am wearing very very high heels".

That was my cue to move forward a bit, to see how high :-)

They certainly were! Very shiny Black Patent court shoes with a very thin ankle strap and tiny silver buckle high on the ankle. She wears the ankle straps slightly loose. The shoes had a fairly thick heel, and red soles. They were easily at least 5 inch high, and may have had a quarter inch platform. The heel was set back on the sole and very straight, also in patent black. The red soles gave them away as Christian Louboutin.

I got there just too late to get a picture. There were hundreds of people taking pictures so maybe one will turn up on the net somewhere soon.

Ten out of Ten Emma, for the shoes, the rest of the outfit, and the songs. Yes, she can really sing. Nice!

    Oh yes... http://www.emmabuntonofficial.co.uk/
