I am old enough to remember tattoos were only seen on guys and now women have fully embraced them. Earrings were never worn by guys then it changed to one earring among gay men which then became earrings on both ears for all kinds of men. Women once wore only dresses then slowly started wearing pants and jeans. Nail polish (clear or black) has become rather common on guys' fingernails and women in sweatshirts (especially in the Northern United States in winter) are everywhere. I think footwear is the last frontier. As others have said, confidence is in the gait...whether you decide to walk in tennis shoes or 5" wedges with freshly-painted toenails. This is when we find out the real quality of a community we live in.

Depends on the occasion; 4.5-5.5" wedges or pumps for driving or short walks on a hard surface, platforms 6-8" for parties or events where such shoes would be common or at home anytime.

I used to not shoes in the store (except when going to Skyscraperheels in Chicago) but the other day I went to a store in Milwaukee that sells dancer shoes along with casual sandals and dress shoes and tried on four or five pairs while other customers came in and out of the store. Some stores like Payless,Target, and Bakers are exceptionally accomodating and carry quite a variety in larger sizes because they have discovered this "new market". When I ask various sales associates about men buying heels I find that it is very prevalent and increasing exponentially each year.

I buy a combination of exotic and discount shoes but nothing under 4.5"/11cm. Wedges are my favorite for driving or walking in the yard, stiletto platforms or pumps for events/parties.

Ordered a shoe called "Carey", a black leather pump with a peep toe and a wrap around ankle strap set atop a natural wood platform with a 5.5" stiletto heel, and will pick them up at Baker's tomorrow after work. So, I made sure I redid my toes with fresh polish and clear overcoat because I want my feet to look their best. The manager told me that she has the "Angeline" which is the same shoe with notches cut into the sole which creates a zigzag effect. She wanted me to see them and complemented me on my choice. The shoes will go with a black mini-dress with tan trim and are definitely about the most eye-appealing shoes I have ever bought
