  1. I hate to add to the generally melancholy mood, but I just went to a community orchestra concert last night, and out of the entire group, which was probably 60 players, about half of which were women, there were only two wearing heels. One of them was a 30-something Russian immigrant violinist, so of course she always wears heels--never seen her without. The other was a college student percussionist (meaning she is probably around 20 years old), and I saw her after the concert at the reception, where I saw she had changed out of her heels. There were also a couple of women wearing block heels of 2 inches or so, but I don't really count that. The rest were wearing flats. I noticed only one audience member (besides me) who was wearing heels. That just wouldn't have been the case back in the day.

Got off work today at noon, swapped shoes in the parking lot and stopped off at a Cheddars restaurant for lunch. This is the one place I can get a comfort style meal since the local Black Eyed Pea shut down. Filled up on meatloaf & mashed potatoes to the point I needed a 3 hour nap when I got home. Afterwards I stopped by a car dealership to buy a part for my car. Though about an afternoon movie but missed the start time, so maybe tomorrow. I wore a new pair of heels, another house brand of Macy's, "Thalia Sodi" Chelsie Platform Dress Pumps. I found these after getting a notification that a pair of INC brand pumps I had set a watch on was back in stock. The Chelsie pump showed up as a recommendation & I loved how cute they looked, plus they were on sale. A fantastic fit assures these will get added  to my regular rotation (I could go on a long winded rant here about how crappy modern shoe buckles have become, (i am not gumby dammit!) but these ones were easy to fasten). I have been pleased with all my purchases from Macys, I just wished I had join their patron club & might have saved even more money. Sadly, the lighting of my closet & the richness of my red wood flooring washed out just how vivid the black velvet really is in this photo. I will try to add a link to these shoes, as there is a short video there that shows off the color & charm dangle much better.

I see you have succumbed to this misguided notion that nails absolutely must be painted with open toed shoes. Not all of us believe that way, you know.  .  .

I'm just giving you a hard time (this has been an ongoing discussion on the forum for years), both the shoes and nails look great.

I'm also risking the ire of Tech for including pictures in my quote, thereby wasting server capacity, but in this case, it wouldn't have made much sense without the pictures, init?

If I'm at a new job site, I will often purposefully dumb down my normal vocabulary, and purposefully use improper grammar until I figure out the group. However, no matter where I've gone over the past 24 years, somehow that nasty rumor that I'm a lawyer eventually comes out. At that point, I am invariably designated spokesman every time there is an issue with management. Ain't none of this seems to have helped me in my electrical career, but it does keep things interesting.

Pant Talk, great since I have just been looking to skinny jeans and leggings myself and am quite happy with what I found

Have you tried "petite" size jeans? Although I really like my short shorts (3-5 inch inseams) in the summer (and fall), I was wearing 32 and 34 inch inseams on my long pants. Hiding most of my heels. However a recent trip to my doctor's showed I had shrunk 1.5 inches, (you're lucky you only shrunk less than an inch).

This years shoe goals was to start showing more of my heels, especially my tall boots. Why have them if you got to hide them. But that requires skinny jeans, something I stayed away from. But last week I got some Express Denim Perfect Lift leggings in 10 SHORT and Levis 311 in 30 X 30. The Express legging and skin tight with a very soft feel and end just above the ankles. I had no problem with the pockets holding what I needed them to hold. While the Levis are skin tight until just above the ankles and end at the ankles.

Well I have worn the leggings three days this week to work with my Madden Girl motorcycle boots and some booties. Today I wore the Levis with my JS Rachie stilettos and holiday theme socks.  The whole shoes were exposed and the white snowflakes on my socks contrasted with the dark black Rachie. I can fully understand and appreciate this look now.  You really feel sexy in it. I'm thinking of getting some Levis 311 30 X 28 (the shortest) next time so I can show more shoes.  Just wish they had more workable pockets.

I have posted a picture of what I'm talking about when I say "cropped pants that are not skin tight." This is someone I know, which is why I have cropped out her head. I just find those loose, cropped pants to be unflattering on practically everybody. Of course, that is only the beginning of what is wrong with this outfit, but we're talking about pants here. For reference, this woman is about 27 years old. Also for reference is a picture of her mother, who is my age, who doesn't seem to suffer from these fashion problems.

I have mixed results with Jessica Simpson shoes. Some size 10 fit fine, my JS Rachies, slightly tight at first. But 30 minutes in a shoe stretcher and they fit great. Then the JS Rollin knee stilettos, I got them a size 11. But these size 10 Raxens I was nowhere near getting my foot in.  I think it had to do with my high arch. I hope the size 11 fit.

The real trouble with Jessica Simpson heels is when they fit they are wonderful to walk in and so much fun.

I have bought two pairs of JS heels, and both of them have been normal expected size, which is my case is 8 1/2. Of course, it's a sort of apples-to-oranges comparison, since my shoes are both mules, and not boots. I wore the crap out of my first pair, and both of the unit plastic molded platforms cracked all the way through, as @Jkrenzer warned me they would. That wouldn't have bothered me so much, except that for some reason the right sandal, which had been my friend for quite some time, decided it was going to start wearing a hole on the top of my right fourth toe, and it continued to do so consistently, no matter what I did to try to correct the problem. That pair was binned. I love being able to say that on this British-based site! I still have another similar pair, but I'm ambivalent about them. I'm not going to get rid of them, but I don't wear them all that much.

    I just love this color!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I really like that color too!

  6. Since we're on the subject of pants (or trousers), I just bought 4 new pairs of pants last weekend from Costco. Costco often has usable, decent looking pants for a very good price. The only problem is that there is no fitting rooms in there, so you might as well be buying off the internet. I won't detail all of them right now, partially because I find it a bit ponderous. I mean, really, pants are kind of boring. The reason I bring up the subject is that I found a pair that fit right off the rack! Or in this case, the display table. The key here is that these are advertised as being cropped pants with a 27" inseam. I assume they are supposed to hit a normal person a couple of inches above the ankle, which is a look I've never understood, especially if the pants/leggings are not skin tight. At any rate they come right to my ankle, which is ideal. I haven't actually run these through the wash yet, so I don't know how they will react, but they're a little bit looser than I would like, as they were all out of size 4s, and I had to get size 6.

In addition to that, they only had one color left, and that was a very light, barely perceptible pink. Not the most versatile color in the world. I decided I wanted to wear these last night to choir rehearsal, and I had a pair of patent stiletto mules that darn near match the pants. However, they just didn't look right somehow. Then I remembered I had these dusty pink Nine West Dance Card mules, which looked a lot better. Nine West used to make a lot of shoes with very high heels (these are just shy of 5 1/2 inch), but they don't any more. I wore a medium gray light sweater, because I figure gray and pink go together. It's not a great outfit, but I did like wearing my new, right off the rack pants and my pink sandals.

It is much easier to hem pants that are too long than extend ones that are too short.  Women seem to have better habits and expectations in hemming pants after they buy them, so it makes sense to offer them on the long side at the store.  This also provides opportunity to adjust length based on footwear.  It seems that this is not the case in men's fashion, which may explain why I can never find pants that are long enough...

I was reminded by your post about why I like to shop in Vietnam. Number one, I'm not really very short in Vietnam, as least among my own generation. Number two, most clothing shops in Hanoi anyway will make alterations right there on the spot for you for free. I'm talking about these little hole-in-the-wall places that most people still buy their clothes from, not the shopping malls, which are kind of new fangled places, and are all owned by the Koreans anyhow.

I missed this the other day. You are almost as tall as me..........When I am bare foot and you are in heels! :-)

Yes, which means I am not way outside the range of normal height. I do not find everyday appliances or cars or life in general to be inconvenient because of my height. What I don't understand (and I alluded to this on the other thread) is the length of my inseam, and why it seems to be way undersized compared to other people my height, male or female. I mean, I understand completely that I have short legs, but when I look in the mirror, I don't think my legs look all that bad or disproportional. I've seen guys that do look like they're all torso and no legs. Heck, I'm working with a couple of them right now! I don't think I'm one of those guys. I get compliments on my legs all the time, despite what the tape measure says. So, there's either a great mystery yet to be solved, or I'm simply being delusional.

    Wow. These are high!!

They are every bit of 5 1/2", or 14 cm. However, there is a 1" platform, about half of which is visible, and half is internal. So it's really only 4 1/2", which is doable for me. I suppose it's one of the things I love about these shoes. They look super impressive, but they are really quite easy to live with. I don't even have any fitting aids in them.

I am not really sure what it is about the design of these shoes that makes them so easy to live with. The heels are somewhat set back, but not severely, like say, most modern Louboutins. Also, since the heels are a bit thicker, I think this helps make them a bit more manageable. I know @Jkrenzer would disagree vehemently on this point, but for this particular pair, it just seems to work for me. I've had many adventures in these heels. Heck, I just wore them today to go pick up some things at Costco!

I was just browsing through the Gallery section and noticed that the last post in the "Street Shots" section was November 30, 2018, almost a full year ago.  It sure does seem like heels are a rare sight these days.  While I'm rarely in the business district any more where I'd guess heels might be a bit more prevalent, I'll bet I haven't seen 10 women wearing a pair of heels in the last year.  Some wedge platform sandals in the summer maybe, but a non-wedge shoe or boot with a heel of more than maybe 2.5 inches is basically non-existent, either stiletto or chunky heel. Even in boots, which for several years seemed to be the primary choice of footwear with a heel, most are now two inches and less.  No wonder there aren't any current street shot postings!  I was in a store today known as Shoe Department Encore, a very large store, and they had a single side of one aisle with dress shoes/heels, and at least four double sided aisles of sneakers/sport casual styles etc.  Even DSW, which always had a great selection of heels, is down to one aisle in the store.  While it is not the first time in history that heels haven't been overly popular, even during the times of low and chunky heels, women were wearing dress shoes.  Today, we have low heel riding boots and booties, and casual/athletic styles - not even a halfway decent looking pair of dressy feminine flats for the most part.  I know in the past that heels have been cyclical, but the lack of dress styles being worn, regardless of heel height, is most troubling.  My state of health is going to limit my ability to weather an extended non-heel cycle, and it is kind of depressing for me...lol.

I decided to revisit this thread, and I'm not sure why the street shot thread hasn't gotten much attention lately, but I can tell you why I personally quit taking "street shots" myself. Perhaps this might apply to others as well. When cameras became a common feature on mobile phones, I used the opportunity to capture a lot of images and video of women in heels on the street. Because I like heels. A lot. Not too much later, when I started wearing heels myself, I found myself being photographed or video'd on a regular basis. This irritated me, and I realized that what other people were doing to me was really no different than what I had been doing to other people. So I stopped. Besides, unless the person is posing for you, it's rare that you get anything worth a damn, anyway. We won't even get into the creepiness factor that goes along with street shots, but there's that, too.

  12. I went to an after Thanksgiving party last night. It was at a Vietnamese house, so what I actually looked like inside the house was exactly this, but barefoot. It is the Asian Paradox, I guess. 90% of the women under 50 wear high heels to a party, but you never get to see them, except in a pile outside the door.

My shoes are Nine West Plantera loafer pumps. I've had them for 6 years, and they have been my go-to closed-toed, dressy, wow-how-can-you-walk-in-those heels for a very long time. I'm still not tired of them, and evidently, they're not tired of me yet, either, since they still look like brand new (except for the soles, of course). Sorry for the poor quality picture. It was very late when I took it.

Part of the reason I wrote this is to show others that even those of us that wear heels full time still have hesitations about certain things.

And most of the reason I replied is to show others (mainly those who are trying to find their courage) that yeah, we're not made of stone. We still have our hangups too. But dammit, we're having fun!

Levis 311 have small (not tiny) workable pockets (and shapes your behind).

Express Mid Rise "Denim Perfect LIFT" has decent pockets and an Express 5 pocket vegan leather legging has real pockets. There are two versions of the vegan leather leggings, one has faux front pockets and the other real pockets...I have both.  I'm a size 10 so I can find my size everywhere, the only problem is that size 10 sales out fast when there i a sale. The denim perfect fit was the only size 10 on their selves because of the 50% off sale that was going on.

I might have to check those out myself. I normally wear size 4 to 6, depending on brand and style, but my problem is inseam length. Even size 4 petite tends to have an inseam that is too long for me. I can have regular pants shortened, I'm not sure whether it would be possible or practical with leggings. I can but try. What's the worst that can happen?

Evidently zero. I haven't changed at all for at least two years. I was trying to think of how to find that other thread was where I measured myself before, but I remember it involved Thighbootguy, so it must've been at least a couple of years ago, probably more.

At this height you can look me straight in the eyes, except likely not as I'll be wearing heels too:-)

That was one of the hardest things for me to get used to, was adjusting my gaze when talking to other people. I spent 40 some years looking up, or at least not looking down too far, and then suddenly, my world view was changed! By about 3 to 4 inches.

    • Haha 1
  16. I have never minded being on the shorter side. Well, except for the fact that a significant percentage of women would reject me out of hand for no other reason than being short, but that's simply not a problem nowadays since I'm married, it's just the idea.

Since I recently got some sandals that have a thicker platform than I would normally consider, I was simply curious--do these make me taller than any of my other shoes? The answer is yes! Slightly. I measured myself a couple years ago, in response to another thread which is buried somewhere on this forum, which was about how much taller does one actually stand when wearing heels compared to the the heel height as measured up the back of the heel. Since I hadn't measured my height very carefully for years, I was faced with the reality that I had gotten older--I had shrunk 1/4" compared to my younger days--which meant that I had to round down to 5'5", instead of rounding up to 5'6". My exact height was then 5' 5 1/4", or 165.7 cm. As of last week, I am still 5' 5 1/4", so I haven't shrunk any more in the last couple of years, but how tall am I when wearing my new gray sandals which have a 1 1/2" platform with a 5 1/2"+ heel? The answer is 5' 9 1/2", giving me a 4 1/4" increase in height. This exceeds my next tallest pair of heels that I've measured in this way, my Nine West Plantera loafer pumps, which have a 5 1/2" heel with a 1" platform. They increase my height by a mere 3 7/8". A subtle difference, but interesting.

That’s one more reason for me to wear heels myself outside. I can watch me walking in windows store. Not as nice as a woman in heels ,but better than nothing.

As I am not so young,I must do it as often as possible. Not sure it would be possible for me in a few years.

"I can do that" and "Just Do It" are two phrase to use.

Years ago there were certain things I wish I had the confidence to do. I am finally getting the confidence to do many of these and I am much happier because of it. Last year I was a "want to expose my knee highs" type of person, this fall I got the confidence to break that self imposed glass ceiling.

It's always interesting to learn about everyone's journeys and stories. Sometimes, there's a surprising twist to the stories, and this is one of those times. I did the tall boots on the outside of pants years ago, and it didn't seem like that big a deal. This winter has yet to reveal its plans, but you won't see me in that combo very often because I only wear boots if I absolutely have to. The reason why your hesitance to wear tall boots on the outside surprises me is because my own hangup, despite rumors to the contrary, is wearing heels with shorts, and you seem to wear those without even thinking twice about it. I am glad to know that even after many years of doing this, there's somebody other than me who still feels hesitant about certain things.

Yes they are in a size 12W. I have never been "fitted", so I dont know my official size, but I seem to fall between 12/13, which is why I can fit into a 12W, although I have a couple of shoes that are a bit tight, but this brand fits well in 12W.

Today started off with getting my car inspected. I knew the guy that owned the station so I wore sneakers, then switched to my latest Nordstrom Rack find, a pair of Calvin Klein stilettos. I was a bit shocked when I measured the heel to be 4 1/2" as they didn't seem that tall in store. Cant beat nappa leather though, as it molded itself to my foot, a fantastic fit for a heel this high. Next stop was an afternoon showing of "Midway" at a new AMC theater that opened near me. Walked by several people along the sidewalk & in the lobby with some notices, but no issues at all. Afterwards I stopped for dinner at an Italian restaurant. Again, no issues at all. Was treated like anyone else by the staff. So there I was eating dinner in a crowded restaurant, wearing 4 1/2" pumps, when it dawned on me, I had achieved what I had wanted for so long. To wear beautiful shoes in public like it was no big thing, without the fear & anxiety I used to have when I started months ago. Not sure what is next in this adventure, but I'm sure I will be wearing heels when I do it!

Some thoughts here. First, congratulations on going on a full outing, in stiletto pumps no less! I wore heels lots of places for a couple of years before I felt like I could wear stilettos.

Second, as far as not wearing heels when you know you're going to meet certain people, I still sometimes think about this after doing this 7 years. For example, I have worn heels to the union hall, but only once, and not to a general meeting. I've decided that I don't want to expend the mental energy.

Third, about your surprise that 4 1/2" heels don't seem that tall. That could be because of the design of the shoe. Some tall heels are just easier to walk in than other. However, it's probably mostly due to the fact that you're a size 12 or 13. Put that same 4 1/2" heel on a size 6, and they would be absolutely insanely high for daily use.

I like that little touch of embroidery, too, on the jeans.

  21. Eh, it's actually a beautiful fall day for a change. I'm experimenting with wearing sandals a little bit longer into the season. Girls do it all winter long, why can't I? Plus, I wanted to wear the new sandals before the snow flies. Now? It's time for a costume change before the "traditional" service. Any rock star worth their salt has to have a costume change between sets! =)))))

    Aaaaaaand.  .  . Presto change-o!
