  1. Thanks man - if I need to I will. I emailed them because I wasn't sure how they'd feel about a man doing the course building shoes for himself but they were really cool with it (Considering I don't go heeling in public yet, I had no problem telling them I was a heel wearing man!). The only thing is I would probably need to buy a last big enough for shoes that will fit my feet so that would cost an extra £100. But that's cool with me. I'll be able to make as many shoes as I want, in almost any style, whenever I want and that is a good feeling! Also, imagine being able to MAKE shoes for your wife/girlfriend? I think that would go down really well!

  2. Yep, their supplies are fairly limited... I have made enquiries about doing one of their courses though and I think I might just do it. Just need to get some cash together as work is always very thin on the ground this time of year. Looking at how much work you put in (which I very much admire), I must confess I was slightly put off at the amount of times I would be asking myself - "how am I going to do that?" or "where on earth am I going to get some of those?" So I'm going down this route. At least once I have the basic knowledge then I can develop and adapt it for my own designs and ideas. I'll still be following your thread though because it is really interesting. I really hope it works out well for you and hope to compare notes once I've learned some of the art myself.

  3. Whilst looking nto the possibility of making my own heels and following HH&C fan's awesome thread I found myself looking at shoe making courses. There are a few that I've found like I CAN make shoes but I'm just wondering if anyone has had any experience of them here in the UK? And can anyone recommend a good one? The more I think about it the more I want to do it and whilst trial and error is a good way to learn it is also the long way. Also, you can't beat someone with loads of experience sharing some of it with you.

  4. Hmm without trying you'll never get any good nor bad results. So there IS a point in trying ;)

However that's exactly why I'm talking about my experiences here. It's to motivate other people to invest time and try the same thing.

It's not easy for sure but also it's not impossible. So just stay tuned and maybe some day you'll try too :)

P.S. - To be honest I don't really have the time or resources either. But, if you really really want to try it, you gonna find some minutes and bucks here and there!

HH&C, you are absolutely right. I wash't really thinking about what I was saying here (it's a common theme!). I am a practical, hands on kinda person. I have plans to build some of my own furniture which I designed from scratch on my own using some cad software (sketchup - free version from google) which I had to learn how to use. This would be no different in terms of learning curve (perhaps a bit steeper!) and ability to make things with your hands. Plus it's a quiet time of year and work doesn't really pick up properly until March so I HAVE got time. And like you say, you'll never know unless you try and if it doesn't quite go to plan then you've learned something for next time.

So everything I wrote before is rubbish and I'm going to begin the process, as you have already done, of working out how to make my own heels. Tonight.

    Thanks for the inspiring words.

  5. Shafted, I hear you on that one. I rarely donate anything to charity and I don't think charities really need to exist at all. We have the means to end most misery etc. But this is a discussion for another time/place. I'm just looking for an excuse to go out wearing heels cos going it alone is a bit too much of mental challenge for me right now.

  6. A very interesting project indeed. I've always thought about making some shoes - being able to make your own shoes to your own design and specification and, of course, a perfect fit. But it seems there is ALOT of learning, research and hard work that needs to be put in if you're going to get good results. And if you're not going to get good results then there is no point! I don't have the time or resources at the moment but perhaps one day. I shall be watching this post...

  7. I was just looking at some stuff on the internet and stumbled across an article about a charity event where dudes walk a mile in heels to raise money and awareness for violence and cruelty towards women. I'm sure I've heard of these events before and is something I would definitely consider it as a way of getting out heeling but also do some good for a worthwhile charity. 2 birds, one stone. Anyone know of any forthcoming events that might be happening in the UK this year?

  8. An interesting topic of conversation! I really like the first one - the towel rail one. Good thinking there. Mine currently reside in a neat row under the bed but I still have the cheap argos shoe rack I bought for the previous collection which maybe getting used for heels again seeing as the collection is growing fast!

  10. I just put a bid in on ebay for some black 4" stiletto pointy toe boots made by J Renee - I really hope I get them (and they fit well) because they look AMAZING!. I have looked on the J Renee website and they have some awesome shoes and boots but don't ship to the UK.

  11. I really don't make resolutions but I'm real interested in leg warmers for a practical reason as well as fashion. I'm thinking ankle boost and skinny jeans with legwarmers.

I have worn leg warmers for years to, um, keep my legs warm! I ride a bicycle alot and in winter they work wonders under a pair of trousers at keeping your legs warm and the great thing is that when you get inside you push them down or they are really easy to get off. Saves having to wear big, heavy long socks.

And I love the skinny jeans/legwarmers thing too. Just need some skinny jeans - already got leggings...

And I don't really make NY resolutions. I just decide I need to do more or less of something when ever I feel I need to do it!

  12. Morning All, I took a bit of sabbatical from the pleasures of heels. I thought that was it - threw them all out and made the decision that they just weren't for me BUT I just cannot keep out of them. So I bought some more. And then I remembered this place and after a bit of fussing around with old and new accounts blah blah, I'm back. That's all for now. Just wanted to say hello and hope you're all well! I'm thinking about changing my username - can I do that? Dan x

  13. Black works with pretty much anything which is why we own so many - I think.. I also really like red shoes and I'm trying to not buy too many black ones but it's hard cos they're so readily available and, like I said, go with anything.

  14. The first pair I wore were some 1" pointy courts that belonged to a cousin and I can't remember what the first pair I bought to wear were like. I just remember that they were all way too small for a while til I discovered the Internet and Barratts shoes...
