  1. This week? To the post office, including standing in line for a package, out to eat Wednesday night, taking out the garbage Thursday night (a *bit* windy, so it was an effort to get the can to remain upright - had to wedge it between two trees near where it normally sits), to church on Sunday, and McDonald's for lunch one day. I think it's mostly that no one notices a man in heels if he's wearing long, darker pants and darker or black block-heeled boots or similarly conservative oxfords. If they do notice, they don't care because they've so many more bizzare things. I'll be some probably think, "A man in heels? Huh. That's tame..."

  2. Have you tried surrepticiously dropping a link to this site? Warning, it can backfire, as it has done for some members. However, for the women who're more sane, it tends to help them realize they're not alone, as the concept of men wearing heels has not yet achieved the critical mass that's required for most women to have seen men in heels on any sort of regular basis, and often out of context, or parodied, etc. This tends to leave most uninitiated women (and women who're more initiated, please join here with your own experiences) with the feeling that they're all alone in the world with a freak, even though they may have passed a heeling fellow many times without ever having noticed. I never noticed a guy in heels in public until the first year that I did so, and during that first year, I noticed just five. These days it's in the teens! Time's a changing...

  3. Of course your better looking than me, your German!! A naturallly good looking race.

How come you got to work with the Beach Boys? I'm really impressed by that!!!!

    Jon

Right place, right time, and a small ad appeared in the college newspaper which asked, "Wanna be a roadie?" and went on to describe the duty - hours of set-up, a free concert and a chance to meet the band, and hours of tear-down.

It was worth it to meet the band, but not for the free concert (only $14 for the others who just chose to show up).

I met 'em again recently when they did a couple concerts for the troops here in Europe and I was asked to do some network setups for them.

  4. Well, for one thing men have worn stilettoes over the last 500 years or so. For another thing, the definition of stilettoes has changed considerably from what we know today. In years past heels were much thicker. What we might call chunky heels today were known as stilettoes.

Some fashion plates depict French Nobility (males) wearing heels with a narrower heel in the 1600s, but I'd have to call them tapered block heels, at best.

  5. As of the 123 voters point, the geometric mean height that people consider to be the minimum height for a high heel is 3.474329428 inches. Round that to 3.5 inches (8.8 cm). However, since most voters are male, most males have larger feet than women, and considering the nature of this website, I believe Zappos' definition of 2.75 inches is probably closer to reality, particularly given the conversion factor between your average male foot length and your average female foot length, which places the average at 3.09 inches. However, the mean for all sexes is around 3.25 inches, so I'll go with that!

  6. I’ve worn my new boots for two more morning shopping trips to Biggs and I think the addition attention I got the first day was a statistical anomaly. The past two mornings no one seemed to notice or care.

Perhaps they took out a full-page add stating, "Oh, and when you visit our store, please try not to pay any attention to the guy wearing thigh-high boots..."

While that might be an interesting marketing trick, it's far more likely it was nothing more than a statistical anomaly as you suggested!

  7. How many guys buy women's shoes for themselves? There's not many of us out in the world that do. This website is quite a rare one, i'm sure.

While this website is rare, it's not that rare. I've more than 35,000 URLs about men wearing heels, although less than 50 point to full-blown websites like this. Most are discussions of men's fashion trends and variations on other websites.

As for "not many," are you kidding? Payless currently reports between 20% and 50% of the buyers of heels in sizes 11 and up are male. Nordstroms reports that a "sizeable number" of those who purchase their larger sizes are male. Several other non-fetish shoe stores openly cater to male clients.

What's rare are open heel-meets, such as the ones we conduct through our website.

What's rare is the courage to heel in broad daylight.

What's far more rare are the reactions that anybody really cares how you, as a man, dress, provided you're not walking across bridges at 6am wearing 6" pumps, hot pink dresses, and showing your genitals.

That's rare, and the reaction is expected, as it falls too far outside the bounds of common decency to be tolerated in modern society.

    But a man wearing heels?

In literally more than a year's worth of wearing heels in public (365 in all situations, broad daylight, through airports, etc.), to date, only one woman has verbally acosted me, and she turned out to be a loony. The other, perhaps 300,000 folk I've come across have been, at the very least, politely disagreeable. But that's just the 1% of them.

The other 99% just don't care.

Meanwhile, modern psychology reports that men wearing heels is on the rise, both in private (mostly) and to a much lesser extent in public. In fact, the ratio is around 1000 to 1 (1000 private wears to 1 public wear). The most amazing thing is that nearly 40% of men under 50 throughout the western world have worn heels on more than one occasion, and 15% have done so on a "frequent basis" (whatever that was).

We're just not wearing them outside, and do you know why?

Because men have been scared into be conformists over the last 200 years. Those who weren't, died!

However, the sociel pressures behind the deaths no longer exist, not with respect to fashion in the Western world, so there's no longer any disincentive to wear flats.

There's only the fear of being different (without any of the repurcussions, as society as a whole is also in fear of being discovered that they're non-tolerant on some issue).

Thus, there's no better time to take a break, and take a walk around the block in your finest pair.

Or perhaps a hardy pair if it's raining...

  8. Well, after like 67 votes, the first pic of me in block heels averaged a 7.7 which is higher than what my mug shot is at right now (it changes every hour).

By the way, you can't see people's average score until AFTER you've placed your vote.

Now I changed the pic to one of me in pumps. Lets see what happens?

p.s. while I appreciate any here trying to boost my score, would you be so kind as to not vote? I want the results to be as unbiased as possible.

Have you thought about conducting three or more separate polls, each with different pics, to obtain simultaneously comparative ratings that very, without interruption, based on the various styles itself, then posting the results here?

    Consider starting from scratch.

  9. As I said before I wouldn't normally wear skirt and heels together, but I couldn't resist to try my new boots with a skirt.

The colors work for female coordinate (tops and accessories, belts and bottoms, or something like that), but not for your shape.

You'd come accross much more convincing wearing something with a fuller skirt:

Just some ideas, and if you want to wear a heel with it, really stun the world with something that crosses the line, but only enough to inspire people's acceptance of the fact that yes, guys can wear heels.

    Something like this:

  10. Thanks for the compliments, everyone! Regarding the "glow", that may have been more the result of post production work of those pics in Photoshop, but yeah, I felt great while wearing those boots!

Oh, I also have a feeling that you probably will! Heh!

I thought it was the 'high-pro' glow?

No, waitaminute - that's the Atkins diet...

You do look pretty happy, mate!

  11. Quick stat on the bell curve - with 130 responses it's now well within the bounds of statistical significance, but I've very surprised that the median, the mean, and the mode are all the same 5'11" to 6' category. What this means is that the curve very accurately represents well-educated male society. You see, well-educated males tend to be taller than their peers. Nothing against the shorter folk! The difference is slight, and might have nothing to do with height at all, but rather, the perception of height over time and how that reinforces how others perceive others. Regardless, that's still a pretty amazing shift from the average male member of society in our age ranges, which is about an 1-1/4" shorter than us.

  12. Oh, my stars and garters! I'm getting vertigo just looking at those things! Pardon me for something ignorant, but how do you manage to stand in them? Inquiring minds wanna know!

Agreed - I'd never be able to get my ankle to bend that way. My ankle rotation limits are about half that, which is why 4" is as high as I'll ever go.

  13. Any place with crowds too busy about their own lives to worry about how you're living your life is usually a good bet.

I've found downtown Vegas on a crowded weekend to be pretty carefree, as are the latest Hollywood releases at theaters, ice-skating rinks (blades, heels, what's the difference?), crowded resturants, any fairly sedate outdoor events, particularly at night, provided people aren't beginning to get out of hand.

Of course, there's always at home, in front of the fire, but I think the question was more along the lines of where else can men go unnoticed in heels.

One of the most amazing things of Johnnieheel's vids is that only one guy (no girls) swung his head to the sound of his heels as he walked through the mall, and this guy was probably a heel-wearing wannabe!

  14. Thank you both, Susan and Hoverfly, for your sentiments. You're both correct in that it's never good to lie, and the only time I did was when she did a 180 and I was doing headspins trying to regain some semblence of structure and order in my life and the life of my family. It was early in 2004 that I vowed never to lie to her or deceive her in any way, but due some things stemming from her past, she never believed me again, and I strongly suspect any miscommunication came across to her as deceit. But that's not something one can fix in another person, nor should I have tried bearing that burden. The best course of action is to be honest, hope for the best, but knowing, realistically where things stand, and communicate that hope to the other. I did my best to do that, but apparently, it either wasn't enough or the other issues eclipsed my efforts along these lines. Bottom line, if you love someone, let them know in ways other than "I love you's." Take 'em out to eat, for hikes, or anything else they show an interest in doing. Rub their feet! If they come home to you, terrific. If they believe your home isn't for them, then it's time to let them go, heal (that takes a couple years, folks), and eventually, move on. I asked her again recently if she was interested, putting out more than mere "strong feelers," but her answer was clear, so I've let go. That's hard for me, as I'm very loyal, by nature. Because I do know myself, I cannot honest say that I respect my decision, particularly because of the distorted crap upon which she based her own decisions. But I can honestly say I accept some of her decisions (her leaving me, not her trying to gain sole custody). But that's fodder for a more personal discussion...

  15. Holerith cards! Yeah, buddy! I used to carry a deck of "Friend" in my toolkit. Has anyone even got a card reader anymore?

I dunno! I'll bet someone has a working version, but the question remains, is it connected to anything that matters?

Just think - it was a 340-lb floppy drive that held, perhaps 10k of LAM (linea-access memory, aka, punch cards).

    Probably cost $10k, too...

  16. I love wearing skirts!!

Here is me wearing one when out on the town with Sissy from Big Brother 4.

    Posted Image

She designs for Midas clothing which is another site that designs skirts for men.

It will soon be a male item of clothing, but then again, I don't care if its not.

    Jon

Dang - I have GOT to hang out with you as I'm much better looking yet you seem to know the crowd which accepts men, heels, and skirts.

PS, the better looking comment was highly partial...

But I'm mediocre on the drums, but rather stellar on the bongos, recongas, and congas...

Can I join your band? I've done sound for three bands, including helping the Beach Boys (twice, in 1983 and 2006), worked radio (1984), etc., whatever, etc., I can play, and you've heard the results of my very preliminary electronic work.

I just want to be a walk-on! I love doing that! Did that in Key West, Va Beach, San Diego, and a couple of other places where the drummer wanted to take a break.

    Not that I can drum!

But as I said, I can play the bongos, recongas, and congas like no one else in Santana's band...
