A Liberating Weekend and Monday...

Hello everyone!! It's been awhile since I've been active here but it is now time to come back and relate some interesting outings I have had recently... Let's go back to March - On our anniversary, my wife and I left the area for an evening out and we went to a fantastic restaurant for dinner. We stayed at a hotel in the area and generally did what most couples do on 'Their Day.' The nice thing about this trip was I did not bring one pair of block heels or men's shoes along :-) When we went to dinner, I wore my favorite pair of real leather 5" stiletto boots (under long slacks...Not brave enough for full exposure yet...) into the restaurant and enjoyed a fine meal. Between April and August 1, I didn't do too much heeling in plain sight except the usual fuel stops... This last weekend though, with much support from this board and the incredible storied of ThighHighBootGuy, I have gone out for two outings in my boots. The first was Saturday night when my wife and I went to Denny's for dinner. We went to one where a good friend works and got seated in a booth directly in line of the entrance/counter seating/register. The entire area under the table was very visible and while sitting, my boots were completely exposed. Not one comment!! Even from our friend who served us and knows about my heels but has never seen me in them!! Then there was today...Again, my wife and I went out but this time to Office Max. We spent about 45 min in the store during normal daylight hours shopping and looking around. Again, I wore jeans which covered my heels completely but we also had my 19mo son with us who tends to draw attention. I had several conversations with store personnel and of course, the store was busy as it was about 6PM. Not one comment or even a second glance from what I could tell!! The end result is a feeling of liberation!! Being able to go out and wear my heels publicly without fear is so WONDERFUL!! Now I am looking forward to our next outing...Who knows?? Maybe tomorrow when we take my step-daughter out for the evening I'll go for another round!!! Happy Heeling everyone!!

Shoelee:-) Congratulations on your very exposed, very public street-heeling. It is also very nice that your wife goes along with you on your public outings. Keep us all posted on your future street-heeling adventures. Cheers--- Dawn HH

Nice to hear from you again, Shoeiee. Great reports on your time in heels out in public. Wow, your son is now 19 mos? My, how time passes. Regards to Elf. And, don't be a stranger.

Being mentally comfortable in your own mind is the key to wearing heels in public.

There you go! I really think the mindset of the general public is getting used to heels. The first time I wore my Franco Sartos out in public was in mid-2003 on a very late Friday night (began 11:30, ended 8am, Sat) at a casino in Vegas. I was incredibly self-conscious, but still calm and collected. Nevertheless, I noticed several people out of the corner of my eye, staring. I've done the same thing, during the same month, wearing the same garb, at the same time, at the same casino, just one year later, and even though I was still self-conscious, yet calm and collected, I noticed that although they noticed, it wasn't a big deal. What changed between 2003 and 2004? Was it a general, subtle exposure to guys wearing heels, perhaps enough of a critical mass that it changed the overall thoughts of everyone involved? I can picture it now: "Hey, Charlie..." "Yeah?" "Did you see the dude wearing women's boots at the bar earlier tonight?" "Women's boots?" "Yeah, you know, with, like, high heels and such?" "Sure, I saw him." "Well, did you think that was, I dunno, a bit odd?" "I dunno. Different, yes. Odd, no." "Not odd?" "No. Women wear heels. Why shouldn't guys?" "What?" "Well, "odd" means "not regular, expected, or planned," or "differing markedly from the usual or ordinary or accepted." "So you don't think a guy wearing heels is 'odd'?" "Of course not. For one thing, guys wore heels from the early 1500s through the French Revolution. That's several hundred years, is it not?" "Well, yeah..." "Definately "yeah." And for another, they did so 30 years before women did, and again in he 70s." "So, what's your point?" "No point, man, merely fact. It's a fact that guys, throughout history, have worn high heels almost as long as women - several hundred years, in fact. Why's it so suprising it's making a comeback?" "I dunno..." "Well, then, there's your answer." The question is, which one of you high-heel wearing guys are in on these conversations? As they say, "the more the merrier," and the more likly we are to turn the tide towards normalcy.

Just to fill everyone in... I've been wearing heels outside for quite some time but they've always been chunky, soft-soled 'rugged' styled heels from Payless. Typically, they're about 2 1/2 - 3" lift and with minimal platform. I've only gotten a second look with my 'normal' boots a couple of times. With my old daily boots (almost 4" lift with a very distinct heel lift...) I only received on "OMG!! That guy's wearing HEELS!!" and a couple of "Hey!! I've got a pair of those!!" My wife and I even got a complement on our matching boots from one cashier at Fuddruckers awhile back. I have found that if you wear styles that are more masculine in appearance, regardless of heel height, most people don't pay a second glance. Once you cross into the thinner, spikier heels, you start getting comments and looks much more. Happy heeling everyone!!

Happy heeling everyone!!

Unless you're chicken like I am and keep 'em hidden beneath a nice long black pair of pants...!

Genebujold:-) CLUCK! CLUCK!!! I guess that I am a chicken with you as I hide my heels also as I'm not brave enough to go walking around with them fully exposed. Mickey68 has told me that she saw someone looking at my heels while street-heeling a couple of times, but she never told me until a lot later after the fact. It would have been fun to turn around and give them a big smile. She has told me that because of my joints I walk like a spastic and I reminded her that it isn't because of my wearing heels as I walk the same way when wearing my sneakers also. Since she uses a cane when walking because her strokes has weakened her right side that maybe I should use a cane to strengthen my right side when out in heels and street-heeling and only use that for that purpose. Cheers--- Dawn HH :D

Shoeiee; Sounds like you had fun and it must be great having someone with you. I’m glad you enjoyed my chronicles of my trips but, I will caution again, don’t become complacent. Select where you go carefully. Also, the first couple of times you wear stiletto heels, they are much more visible (mentally) to you than to anyone else. Have a great time, and keep us posted.

I dream of a world where chickens can cross roads without having their motives questioned.
