On the one hand it's inspiring that they're overcoming the "mutton dressed as lamb" stigma and feeling free to express their style and enjoy it, while on the other hand it could be yet another ideal to fall short of just like airbrushed/manipulated fashion photos. It's best to dismiss the unrealistic ideals and take the inspiration part. If you like it, wear it.
