  1. I've seen them in green, also. I must admit, mine are about - hang on... - 3.5" or so, but with really thin stiletto heels. I've seen them with higher but slightly thicker heels, but not with stilettos. I'm happy with mine, just looking for a chance to wear them again. And I've also seen them as mules! Don't have a photo, but they looked quite nice. I was shopping with a good friend who almost persuaded me to buy them

  2. Same description also applies to Scotland most of the time, from what I hear.

I think that's Manchester you're talking about there. I've been in some lovely days in Scotland. On the other hand, I've spent only two days in Manchester where it didn't rain. It snowed

  3. Well, thanks for your comments, everyone! I had some fun taking the photos, and I'm glad you all liked them. Thank heavens for the timer on my digial camera. I must admit, we nearly had a photo of me in heap on the floor at one point. I was trying to get upright from pressing the go button on the camera and almost didn't make it. And now I've figured out how to take decent photos, I may well take some more!

  4. Nooooooo not the manual. Never ever read the manual.

It could ruin your credibility on this board.

Plus I could get chucked out of the union. Don't worry, there's no danger of me reading the manual

  5. Thanks to the generosity of two board members, I've moved on to much higher things. I have two pairs of fantastic shoes, and so (after a little prompting) I've posted some photos to share.

I bought these from one board member, and managed to squeeze into them for long enough to take these photos:

They are a touch under 6" high in a size 7UK or so. I didn't think the height was a major obstacle, but they're so tight that I couldn't keep them on long.

And then, as if that wasn't enough, an especially generous person simply handed over these (although I did have to fix his laptop  ):

These are about a 7" heel. They're the right size, but there's just no way I can do more than get my knees straight at the moment. I wore them sat at my desk this afternoon, and I haven't budged. In the end I changed them just before my feet fell off completely!

So, has my picture taking improved any? What do you all think? (Oh, and thanks to the people concerned - you know who you are!

With your newly acquired ones Yam?

Julietta - you look lovely in purple - it really suits you!

And I'm not quite sure which heels to wear next time, but I doubt I'll wear the 'extreme' heels.

  7. I am surprised Yamyam that the rubber tips gave out so quickly. Did they get caught in a crack and pulled off? That happened to me recently. I was in a shop with wooden floor when I realised it and that I might be marking the floor. I was speaking with the salesperson, and noting the floor already had marks, she thought that metal tips left cute little patterns and wasn't at all concerned. Like many women, she was quite encouraging.

When we realised that I was making a lot of noise just walking, I stopped and checked. There were bits of each heel tip clinging on to the tip, but not much. I've had them re-heeled, but I haven't worn them since. I think they wore out as the ones they put on in the factory just weren't up to the job.

  8. When you refer to the "south" of England, is that just London and its environs (Kent, Surrey, Herts, etc). Or does it include literally everything in the lower half of the country?

In the US for example, "The South" refers only to the states of the former Confederacy.

Well, I live in the Midlands, which as the name suggests is cunningly concealed in the middle of the country. So anything south of me is 'south' and anything north of me is 'north'.

Having said that, I was born in London and spent my life until about 27 in the south, but I've become an adopted local up here. So me going on about the South should be taken as a gentle tease of myself.
