  1. No chance of that, what with it being locked now!

......I expect the majority of attendees did actually enjoy it. I would have enjoyed it if I'd been there - spending a Saturday afternoon in the pub wearing heels & talking to a group of likeminded people about heels - that can never be a disappointment can it!?!

IMO. the change of date was the key factor in the 'failure' of IHM 2009 as it sigificantly reduced the number of attendees. That this was going to happen could, of course, never have been foreseen - various calendar conflicts and 'sods law' issues seem to have played a part.

That said, do not be disheartened fellow HHP Members! Another meet will be sure to come along soon. ;-)

Euchrid's hit the nail on the head here. If the people who turned up enjoyed themselves, then the day wasn't a failure.

There has been a real emphasis on getting the numbers up in past years, and if you're judging the event on how many turned up, you're setting yourself up for failure. What's important is that people met and interacted and enjoyed themselves and each other's company.

  2. HappyFeat - fantastic adventures, I've just finished reading through the entire thread, great read! I kept reading to see if you got the girl - but the story isn't over yet. You mention that you're not sure if assistants in shops are possibly being friendly to get a sale, whilst that might be true - after all, it's their job to sell stuff - I'm sure you make their day. I did a stint in retail HMV in Oxford St - (what can you do with a degree in music?) - I had my favourite customers, the ones who'd brighten my day. They were the enthusiasts, the ones who loved music, the ones you could spend time chatting with, who knew their stuff and recognised that you knew your stuff. Then again, there's nothing more attractive than confidence. You have it in spades! I haven't heeled for a while as many of you know, the ankles are not as young as they were my boy, and I'm not looking for a woman, but meeting someone whilst wearing heels is the way. Saves a lot of problems down the line. There's something about wearing heels that makes you stand out - even makes me stand out - from the crowd. I've even had to use the "girlfriend" word myself!

  3. Thanks for that. Interesting video, however, I was reflecting that I've been pain free in my ankles and feet for about six months, and that's worth having. I'm certainly going to keep a lot of my heels, and I occasionally wear them for very short spells, but I don't think extended wearing and especially out of the house is an option for me any more. Mobility is the key to keeping fit and healthy. I intend to do the bike trip to the south of France every year from now on. This summer we're pulling a trailer and camping - should be fun.

  4. This is a question I've pondered often when reading posts here. I read the post, look at the avatar and wonder is that a picture of the poster.

So is your avatar really you?

Why did you choose that picture?

    and

If your avatar is an image of someone else, why?

BTW mine is me - it's a bit of an odd photo, but I just like that veiw of the heel. Shame about the chair leg.

Hey - I'm glad this thread is going strong :winkiss:

On re-reading my first post I noticed the words now don't match the picture. I changed it to my favourite boots some time ago - and there's no chair leg.

  5. I am truly impressed, biking 923 km. (I don't think the US guys realizes that it is almost 560 miles!) QUOTE]

Thanks - we like to think in kilometers - makes it seem faster!

We did it in easy stages, around 80k (50 miles) a day - with a couple of rest days in between and stayed in hotels all the way. Mrs F didn't want to cycle all day without a pool at the end of it. Sensible woman.

  6. It's been about a year since I've had a pair of heels on my feet. I've had virtually no pain in my ankles since about January. I've given up not only heels, but the mules I was wearing around the house in France, as the action of gripping them on with my toes caused tension. I've managed without my heels, and at least my ankles and legs are good enough to take me cycling reasonable distances with a camping load on. So it's not been a purge out of guilt but a conscious decision.

  7. I haven't been here much since the last post - just popped in to have a look and the occasional game of tetris. I haven't worn heels since. I can't do it any more, which is a shame, but since I stoped wearing heels, I got to the stage where I didn't have pain when walking, which is obviously a bonus! Since then Mrs F and I cycled to our house in South West France, 923 kilometers in total, so there's life in the old legs yet.

  8. Boy, did trying to be honst come bite me in the butt here.

    You guys are way ovverreacting.;)

I don't think so! People here are giving you their experience as they see it. Men wearing heels or other feminine garments is not usual, and it takes a lot of confidence to pull it off. You have to be able to look at yourself in a mirror, or take a picture and feel comfortable putting that up for all to see. You then have to take that confidence and self belief out with you. If you don't you will look a prat - and that's nothing to do with the way you look, but it's all to do with the way you project yourself. Your body language will do 95% of the talking.

Must dash, I'm off to the osteopath! I don't want to sound a negative note, but I don't wear heels any more, my ankles are shot.

  9. Pumps, this might sound harsh, but if when you street heel you don't get spontaneous positive comments from men or women, you're doing it wrong! It's down to attitude. When I've had the wrong attitude, not positive and loving every minute of it, or not looking fit and healthy (as I sometimes don't) that's when it all goes wrong.

  11. Welcome to the forum.

I've seen Fog wearing the boots from his avatar and they look even better in real life. (This comment would be made meaningless if Fog changes his avatar. To avoid this I've taken the liberty of uploading a copy of the avatar picture to this post).

Thank you at9. I don't think I will change my avatar for a while, they are my favourite boots. Not an exalted name though, they came from the sale at Office two years ago. I dug out the post I made after I bought them and put it in my pm to handsomeboot.

I really enjoyed re-reading and re-living the adventure I had that day. It was virtually my first time out in tall boots that went over my trousers.

  12. They've now banned smoking in restaurants in France - as from January 1st. It was unbelieveable to see French men and women huddling outside having a quick drag. It makes it a lot nicer for the rest of us. The waiters were a bit confused at Buffalo Grill (yes call me philistine) they started with fumer ou non - but only got as far as the first syllable.

  13. I'm sorry to disagree. I really thought he was overblown, and had an alarming tendancy to drift sharpwards. I like my music in tune. I was reminded of this post on hearing him on the Radio France Musique on Sunday morning, they played Orfeo's famous aria in the Gluck. I didn't catch the introduction, but immediately thought what a wooly tenor sound. The end of the piece was more shouting than singing. By then I was interested to know who it was, the announcer said Pavarotti reverentially. I should have guessed was my comment to mrs. f.
