  1. I'm with you, JeffB, but I did find a pair of Jessica Simpson platform stilettos labeled 42/12B that slipped right on and are very attractive and comfortable. Platforms aren't my thing, but these are nice looking and obviously larger than many for the labeled size.

  2. I recently told a young girl who I like very much (no romance involved) about wearing heels, by showing her a picture taken with a girl on Halloween several years ago. She was surprised, I think, but said she knows a number of guys who wear heels or more - cross dress, I guess. She said only an immature woman would object to a guy wearing heels. We had a nice conversation on wedges vs. stilettos and the characteristics of various types of shoes.

  3. I get pedicures with polish about every two weeks. I take several candidate colors and let the girl pick them out. She is a friend and did my wife years ago. I wear high heel wedges (5+ inch heels) to the salon about half the time. None of the staff pays attention any more. I leave wearing thong sandals (very low wedge) so as not to smudge the polish until it is safely hard.

  4. Finally found some affordable high wedges! Where did I find these online? I think maybe it was a one-line ad after signing out of HHPlace? Anyway, they were only $14.90!!! Paprika from Houser Shoes. Very high, 1.5"+ platform, 6"+ heel. I'm not a fan of high platforms, but these were so sexy looking that I couldn't pass up the price. Very stylishly shaped, which means a narrow sole due to tapered sides, so not so easy on carpet or soft surfaces.

  5. But the platform pumps in the Shoe Dazzle ad on the page that came up when I clicked on the link are accepted as "nice" shoes. But make some cutouts to expose some of the toes and some other portions of the foot, and they become "slutty"? The difference in style between these and some Louboutin and Dior styles is fairly small considered analytically. I don't think shoes make the slut, and I'm not sure I believe in the word, either. It's more like bad taste, and it takes the look plus the body language and behavior to complete the picture of something associated with sex or sexy. It goes back to the belief that sex is dirty and sexy behavior by a woman is slutty. Humbug! That seems to be criticizing the Creator for what He/She created. I could go on.

  6. Some do, some don't. I recently took a vacation with a young girl friend. During shopping for the trip, she was looking for green nail polish but didn't find the shade she wanted. I was surprised since this girl is sort of a tomboy, dressing usually in jeans and tank tops, and has never used lipstick or nail polish since I have known her. I have traveled with her before. I took my own polish - a fairly dark blue by OPI which I was wearing. I also took a pair of high heel peep toe wedges and my pool sandals which are women's from Payless with a slight wedge (but they are the only ones that stay on). I had decided to expose all this to her, hoping for a favorable reaction, but to do it in any case. I offered her the nail polish and she used it to paint her toes, the first time I have ever seen her do that. The color matched her flip-flops which she wore almost all the time. She did find the shade of green she wanted, but did not use it. She didn't say much about my polish, but was not favorably impressed with the shoes. She made it clear she did not want to be seen with me in my "girly" shoes. Most of my previous girl friends have been very accepting and even encouraging about polish and heels, but not this one. Needless to say, I don't expect to see much of her in the future, as she failed the test. Not that there was any future there anyway, as she is younger than my youngest son, but she is attractive.

  7. I have been envying the stylish high wedges from the fashion makers, but they never seem to exceed size 11 at the largest. I just bought a pair of size 13 5" wedges from Endless.com. Actually, they are 5 1/4" at the back with a 1 1/4" platform. They aren't the most stylish shoes, obviously, but they come in sizes from 11 to 15! They are very comfortable and very easy to walk in with a wide sole, and they feel nicely high. They are Milan by Barefoot Tess.

  8. I thought high heels looked sexy on girls, and I wanted to see what it would be like to wear them. Also, was challenged by the wife who implied I wouldn't be able to walk for long in heels. Surprise, as I found them (some of them) very comfortable and a welcome change from flat shoes which hurt my feet. Forward to years later, girl friend said "Do you feel sexy in heels? Because you sure look sexy!" I really don't think the whole picture is sexy, but they sure feel good and look good to me, though the combination is still strange compared to what we are raised to think is normal.

  9. I'm with Heelster and Gary - they are almost like engineer boots. If you aren't familiar with those, that's what building engineers on construction sites were wearing at one time.

  10. Yes, yes, yes! There are so many nice heels and high wedges in sizes up to 10 or 11, but little available over that. I have some high heel wedges from Karo, Payless(!), and Pelle Moda, all in size 13, and all with a low platform but high heels. Unfortunately the Pelle Modas are a little too large and don't want to stay on - should have gotten a 12, but they are not produced any more and are long gone. I get frustrated looking at the nice, fashionable shoes in stores and online places which aren't made in large sizes, from expensive Louboutin, etc. styles to less expensive ones from Bebe, Shoes.com, Endless.com, Nine West, etc., or cheaper places like Ami Clubwear.

  11. One of the managers at the big company I used to work for wore a pink suit! He got lots of comments but just ones of surprise as far as I know. He was always a positive and happy person, and had great fun with his suit.

  12. My limited experience with Shoes USA is that they are well made, very comfortable, but on the large side, so I would tend to order smaller than usual. That's where trying them on first is valuable, or at least a better system of measurements than just size.
