  1. E, I thought of you today because of my new boss. She favors pointy heels, which I usually don't like so much. But I already feel like I adore her and that influence lead to me staring longingly at--what?!--pointed toe heels! Well, I thought of how elegant you look in your pointed heel and I don't know, I may well end up copying the trend ;)

  2. That is very daring! I can imagine you turn lots of jealous heads!

  3. Wow, quite a shoe to master in crutches! I know what you mean, the right comment or just being in impressive heels can turn my whole day around. My favorite for that reason are this 4 1/2" black suede with a gold mirrored heel and gold plate on the ankle cuff. The ankle cuff limits my ankle movement so I lift my feet more and in general it improves my walk. When I have an exam or a am having a bad day these are my go to shoe. I feel like I master them. Do you have a pair or pairs like this? Or is it the mules for you?

  4. I do love your that you wear stiletto heels. Nothing like it, is there? Have you ever tried metal heels? And do you replace your heels yourself, have it done professionally, or just buy new heels? I am thinking of trying metal heels myself :)

  5. 'kay Megan, sounds like a plan!

  6. Hmm. Do you go through less heels now? I go through a lot of heel tips, which at the moment I have not replaced even one! But I have learned how to replace them and have begun the process by removing them all, now on to buy the replacement tips, haha!

  11. I keep thinking of the tights springing out of the drawer idea... I love this! We may have to plan on setting this up from our respective corners of the world once I get some color variation going.

  12. Yup, we did! I guess I never knew the name for them, but they were super popular in grade school and popped up occasionally in high school. Pop quizzes make me ill like an exam never would, how curious to think of them for fun! I love that you always share these neat little tidbits :)

  13. Hi! Just stopping by to thank you for all the great tips you have posted on here and for your informative replies. I have successfully removed heel tips on my more run down heels that I will be buying tips for. Thank you! :) You must have a lot of experience with shoe repair. Are you also a high heel fan or is shoe repair your only reason for being a member of hhplace?

  14. I have never heard of the last two, but a quiz for us is like a miniature test, less questions than a test and it takes less time (this is totally relative, a quiz for one class will be shorter than the test for that class but a quiz in another class might actually be longer than the quiz for another class.) It is less rigorous, usually, and also covers a smaller scope. A pop quiz is a non-scheduled quiz, sometimes given when attendance is low to penalize the absent and could be specifically to benefit those present when the instructor purposefully makes the questions super easy. Some of my instructors in the past even have a set number of pop quizzes set into the grading system, maybe even planned for a certain date, we just don't know when exactly they will happen until we are taking them. So Pop Quiz is a play on that. Sometimes we call tests exams. Is this the way it is also set up in Britain?

  15. Do you ever feel that your crutches do not live up to the beauty of your heels, and consider changing something on them? Or do they fade into the background for you? I was also wondering if you might want to explain the complications in detail as medicine is the field I am studying--I plan on becoming a surgeon and these things interest me a great deal. Don't mind me if you are not comfortable going into that! It is so sweet of you to keep so many right shoes and lend pairs to others! What is your own favorite heel to wear? I personally love the feeling I get from braving obstacles like weather, stairs, and having to run in heels. For you, there is a whole different level to this. Thank you for sharing your experiences as another person that loves her heels to mauch to part with them!

  16. Hi e, I did read your story as you suggested. How impressive to go back to a heel after such extensive injuries. I bet that if I was in the same situation, there would be nothing to it then to do just as you have. Let people remark if they want, they certainly form their stereotypes with or without crutches. :) Do you find that you tend to wear your one shoe down to the point that it will no longer match the other one when you go back?

  17. You know, I agree. What's lovely about that book is that it effectively deals with the issue of prejudice as one part of the whole. I am thrilled that you're introducing your daughter to good literature! Haha, I sound like a teacher, which in my book is about as good as it gets. Still think it's pretty awesome that you've taught before! :) Have you read anything by Louise Erdrich?

  18. Oh, I love that book! Read it in high school. Atticus Finch was such a neat dad, I thought, but I wish Scout (was that the girl's name?) would have been dressier :)

  19. Lol. Hmmm... there is not a particular place, per say, but Southerners are considered less bright and called "hillbillies" because of their proximity to the Ozark Mountains. In general, anyone from Georgia, Texas, Alambama, Arizona, and Missouri in particular is looked down on at least by us northerners as ignorant and uneducated. In fact, Alabama is the state with the lowest education standards in the US while Minnesota is the state with the highest. Along with the education problems, they are also the most prejudiced people in general. Surprisingly, the KKK, which I am sure you are familiar with, can be traced back to Minnesota and not the South. Probably way more than you bargained for, sorry!

  20. I was very amused to find there is such a thing as "Essex girl jokes," b/c in the US we have "blonde jokes." Do you also have blonde jokes in Britain, or are they just called Essex girl jokes? Two Essex girls observed in a car park trying to unlock the door of their Escort Cabriolet with a coat hanger. SXG1: "I can't seem to get this door unlocked!" SXG2: "Well, you'd better hurry up and try harder, its starting to rain and the top is down!"

  21. Hi Heidi, I can't seem to find a high heel boot type that ich mag. Usually I find a pair of heels I have to have and then I pick more based on what I like from that pair, maybe this will happen with heeled boots too. I bet your shoe collection is full of great ideas--like your suggestion of deep threads for traction! See you back at our home thread

  22. Haha, not going to happen on my college student budget! Thanks for passing by with your message :)

  23. Thank you for the friend request, Sharon! I am having such a fun time catching Alexa, Jane, Heidi, and your stories. Perhaps I might join in on trying to persuade Heidi to get her toes out there and maybe even into some water!
