I'm always wary of platforms, and I have several pairs. They have a higher centre of gravity (although the small platform on yours wouldn't make much difference), meaning they are likely to tip over sideways suddenly, and also they can be very dangerous for coming downstairs as the platform rocks forward at the precise moment you're about to put the 'lower' foot onto the next stair, putting you off balance and making you likely to take a header...

Actually they're River Island. Total non-event wearing them. No comment from wife's friend although I know she was looking at them, and she was wearing plimsolls... Most disappointing on both counts. Yes, the zip is on the outside
I wore these again for a meal out last night, and afterwards we went for a walk past some shops and in a couple of supermarkets. As always, no comments, and most seemed not to notice although these make such a satisfactory noise... Almost as loud as stilettos but of course without that distinctive ring!

I'm near Brighton. Always happy to meet up, or just chat, even if you can't wear heels publicly for some reason. I'm normally in heels most days.

I know what you mean by synthetic materials degrading. I found a pair of boots that are ideal for everyday wear, and as I've seen the same model on Ebay etc I've bought more pairs. I now have five pairs! However, although the first pair lasted ages the subsequent ones are splitting across the toe. The actual material is intact but the outer coating is just splitting and crumbling. Really annoying! The latest pair (No 3 - two to go) split within hours of starting to wear them.
My other daily boots have concealed heels (discussed elsewhere) and these are also synthetic. I'm still on my first pair, and they are really good - no real signs of wear and I've walked a loooong way in them. I've bought two more pairs for when these finally wear out, but I wonder whether the outer coating will have degraded by then.

Both! You'll always wish you'd bought the other pair if not...

Good to have some detail about Italy. I might go to Venice for a few days next year so it's good to hear I'm unlikely to be beaten up! I'd probably wear my wedge sandals which have wide rubber heel/sole units so they wouldn't make pistol noises on the cobbles!

Sounds great. Enjoy
Interesting that they seem to have the zip on the outside?

Ditto nice boots. Ideal for public forays.

I had to do the same with a brand new pair of boots. The zip was very stiff and the metal tab snapped off. It wasn't worth sending the boots back, especially as they fit well. I've put a small keyring like that on the zip.

Well done! It's exhilarating, isn't it?! Hoping people won't say anything but then rather disappointed if they don't! I've never had anyone comment, and I've been wearing heels all day most days for about three years. As most here have come to realise, most people don't even notice, and the rest don't care. I do wish I'd get a compliment, though. Perhaps I need to wear stilettos more regularly, but I live in a small town, and tongues would wag even more than they probably do now, and my wife wouldn't like it. She's OK with my wedges, although she's not too comfortable around the ones I'm wearing today - 4 inch very thin wedges that make quite a row as I walk.

Very stylish. Yes, SOP are not cheap!

Great trouser boots. I've sat on a bench in 4.5 inch stilettos, and no one appeared to notice, even when I stretched my feet out. The same in some rather noisy thin wedges I have.

I got them off Ebay - a wonderful source, although I have bought shoes in store and tried them on. I can't remember the make but they might be Nine West. Lovely soft leather. I had to repair the zipper tag but that wasn't much of a problem.
She loves shoes but I'm not sure about comparing height! I'll have to see. Perhaps get those boots out later to wear, then wear them to work tomorrow and keep them on for when she arrives.

I think I probably will. I'll see if she says anything... She often wears heels at least 4 inches herself.

I find boots easiest for comfort. Sandals are the worst because they have a comparatively small area in contact with your foot, so any rubbing/digging in is concentrated. It's tempting to wear uncomfortable shoes because you like the style, and that's not too bad if you're not walking anywhere, but if you're putting the miles in, like I do, you need to be absolutely sure they're not going to cripple you after a few hundred yards. I have a couple of pairs of sandals that are comfortable for all-day wear but one of them is falling to bits. The other pair is holding up well, and I practically lived in them over the summer.

wow - I like them. Like you say, not much on the looks side... but very intriguing... you made these yourself?
almost disappointing that he didn't comment
I didn't make them. Bought them off Ebay. They're still available but they go up to size 8 and that's snug. £9.99 plus p&p - I paid nearly £30 for the first pair but they're still going strong. Brand is Spot On, which do several styles with more 'masculine' looks: http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/SALE-LADIES-SPOT-ON-BROWN-BLACK-HIDDEN-WEDGE-BOOTS-WITH-BUCKLE-DETAIL-F50333/281462542509?ssPageName=STRK%3AMEBIDX%3AIT&var=581195277320&_trksid=p2057872.m2749.l2649
Yes, I wish he had commented, really. It seems 'coming out' is a difficult thing...

Halloween is a much bigger thing with you - I don't think we'd 'get away with' anything like that over here - more likely be disciplined for inappropriate dress!
Well done, though. You never know, you may have kickstarted a male trend where you work.

I see. Would you mind parsing it for me, because I can't understand it, and I'm quite good at English.
He IS American. They use a whole bunch of words they invented themselves! We use pumps for inflating the tyres (tires) or moving water around - they wear them... Sneakers tell tales - they wear them...

You're absolutely right, pebblesf. I think a lot of men would love to wear heels but don't dare, for various reasons. I've done that journey. In the end I decided I wasn't hurting anyone by wearing them, although I don't want to cause embarrassment to those I love and care about. I now wear 'masculine' heels all day most days, and am comfortable with being with friends and family while wearing some pairs (notably my boots with concealed heels mentioned elsewhere). I have another reason apart from a love of the heels: they are a miracle cure for back pain, so that's a truthful explanation I can give to anyone who asks, although so far no one has done that.

Oh, he didn't comment! Funny, he ran out of time while getting ready to go out, and he was wearing sandals... Obviously what he wears around the house.
Who has bought some new BOOTS?

I agree! Wider heels are fine until you hit uneven ground, but even then they are a bit clumpy as you walk. Thinner heels are deliciously wobbly all the time and the changes in surface don't affect this much. My daily heels are just over an inch wide, and they are a good compromise, as they are narrow enough for stability but not as noisy as thinner ones.
