  1. What Steve said, I've had good experiences in stores, and even had sales folks offer positive comments.  I once commented to a lady at Baker's (women's shoe store) that I bet they don't get many guys trying them on, and she said that they do get a few guys trying them on.  They want to make sales, so they will do what they can to make a sale.  Especially in places like Dillard's or Macy's, they will be very professional about it.

  2. I'd be very reluctant to tell my family. They probably have their suspicions; when I was a teenager I bought some women's canvas flats, and my mom asked why I was wearing girls' shoes. I've had flat sandals that came from the other side of the store, and my little sister once asked if she could borrow them. I think she suspected they were really women's sandals, but never said anything about them and I got them back. One Halloween when I was about 10 I tried on my older sister's wedge sandals, and got an "ick" reply, but she would have been about 17 at the time. My fear is if I spill the beans, they will get the idea that "Oh, so that's the real reason why your marriage failed". Um, no, my ex knew about them soon after we started dating, and she had no problem with me wearing them. I don't think I'd be able to fully convince them that it wasn't an issue for her. My other fear is it will be a big disappointment to them. Much as I'd like to tell them, I feel like I shouldn't tell them. When they visit, I just have to hide the shoes.

  3. I still tune in here, but I agree it doesn't seem as lively as before. It was nice to see Happyfeat back again, but others like Johnieheel haven't been as active. I've been busy doing other things as well, and just haven't had much to post. I didn't even know heels4men was still around.

  4. I've often wondered if I seem a little weird for being a bit of a prepper. I bought a portable generator, thinking I could use it for amateur radio field day. Hasn't happened yet, and so far I've just been running it once a month to keep it exercised and have 5 gallons of gas in the garage. I keep gallon jugs of water around, Clif bars, several flashlights, batteries, and have food on hand in case things get out of hand. I have my camper with a deep cycle battery and a propane tank in it if I had to leave my house and sleep somewhere. Since we've had some storms blow through recently that left some people without power for hours or days, you never know when it might happen. I think back to when we had the big northeast blackout in 2003. My power was off for 8 hours, but it was no big deal for me. I didn't even have the generator back then. I just pulled the rope on my garage door opener to get the car in and out. I turned on the radio and listened to the news, listened to the amateur radio nets, cooked my dinner on the gas stove after lighting it with a match, and had plenty of light from the battery powered lantern and oil lamps. When I noticed the water faucet was losing water pressure, I filled the bathtub and a couple of buckets so I had some water on hand. The next day, people at work were bemoaning how they had no power and it was like the end of the world to them. They couldn't get their car out of the garage. When the water systems started losing pressure, they didn't know what to do. They had no lights. They had no way of eating. They were bored out of their skulls with no TV or Internet. They asked me what I did to stay occupied during all this. I read a book, and got my telescope out to see all the things I couldn't see because of light pollution.

  5. Hoping to finish painting parts of my house. One of those things I started when I moved in about 5 years ago. Previous owner was very colorful (colorblind?) and had tons of art hanging from the walls. My living room is riddled with holes where she ripped out the drywall anchors, which have been covered with spackling since the first year I lived there. The plum colored wall in the dining room kind of clashes with the canary yellow with white spots. I'd also like to do something about the pistachio green master bath with the cracked floor tiles, but one thing at a time. I've also been itching to build a tube guitar amp, something some friends have been urging me to try. Not from a kit mind you, but actually designing one. Maybe a modest combo amp, about 10 watts, push pull 6V6 output tubes, two stage 12AX7 preamp, 12AT7 phase inverter, built into a varnished wood case with a 10" speaker. Already got the beginnings of a preamp going on my workbench :rocker: .

  6. I don't know why, but I've always wanted to serve on a jury.

It is an educational experience, I had to sit on a jury once. The last time I got called I didn't get selected, and there was a young guy, probably under 20, who actually expressed his disappointment that he didn't get selected. The rest of us chuckled, probably because we were thinking "beware of what you wish for". Actually, I think everyone should serve at least once, it's a wothwhile experience.

  7. Stopped by the Aldo store to browse around. A young guy who helped me before when I was looking at some boots was there, and he recognized me. I don't think this was the case last time, because I'm sure I would have noticed, but when he came from behind the counter, he was wearing a pair of white patent peep toe pumps with stiletto heels. I didn't stare too much, but I can now say I have seen a guy outside of a heel meet wearing stiletto heels as a guy. He was even wearing them where he worked and the couple of other customers there didn't seem to pay them much attention. Too bad it was near closing time I might have engaged him a little, mentioned hhplace, and asked if he would mind if I took a picture of them to share here. Yes, I'm sure some folks may be thinking "Pictures or it didn't happen", but I assure you it was for real. :-)

  8. That stinks, sorry about your car. I can't help but wonder how he discovered your car, but cars can be fixed. I had my own unpleasant encounter with a road raging gorilla who decided I was clearly in the wrong for driving the right way through a parking lot despite his blatantly ignoring the "DO NOT ENTER" sign. Thankfully, after he got out and threatened physical harm, I just said "You have a nice day, sir, Merry Christmas and God bless". He got back in his car and went on. Still glad it didn't get beyond that, and no damage except my frayed nerves.

  9. I picked up a pair of Aldo "Brigette" boots, and lucked out since the size they had in stock was 39 (about 8.5 US). I normally wear a 9. I had worn my brown "Moeser" boots to the store, and when they said they only had that size, the gentleman asked if I'd like to try the 8.5 anyway. They must run a little large, because they fit great. Since I had put both on, the guy asked if I just wanted to wear them out. Sure! He put my flat boots in the box for me. I actually put a review in for them online, and noticed there's a checkbox for "male" or "female". Seems they approved my review anyway, and even got a vote for being a helpful review. Bet they don't get too many reviews for the "women's" boots from guys, but hey, I'll contribute. Been wearing them to work with nary a blink. I will say the price is worth it though, their boots are comfortable, well-made, and warm.

  10. Okay, they aren't heels, but I've been wearing some flat riding boots that I got at Aldo. They did come from the "other" side of the store. I've been co-directing a play with a friend of mine, and ended up having to be in the cast since one of our cast members had a family emergency. These are a brown leather boot, VERY comfortable, and I've worn them a couple times. This evening, my friend gave me quite a surprise when she was giving notes after tonight's rehearsal and said "I LOVE your shoes!". It was so unexpected I just managed an "Eh?", and it seems she wants me to wear them in the play. Our characters are supposed to be in the 19th century, so I guess she figures they suit my character even better than my plain black dress shoes I had worn in our last dress rehearsal. Quite a surprise to me really, but hey, I'll take the compliment. Guess I'll be wearing them in the play!

  11. I think I'm starting to have an addiction to Aldo boots. I went back for a pair of tan "moeser" boots. Granted, they are flats, but the ladies at Aldo thought they were awesome boots. I couldn't believe how comfortable they are, and one of the ladies agreed, she has the same ones. I've been wearing them with beige dress pants and a dark blue shirt at work today, and I feel like I don't want to take them off.
