Fun Shopping Online

I was browsing the Internet looking for a pair of shoes like this: Posted Image (hope the image works, but if not, they're kind of like sandals, but with a closed toe, a cuff around the ankle, and about a 3.5" heel). I fancied a change from plain black ankle boots (twenty pairs should be enough  )

Anyway, I found some quite nice ones, but at 45 quid (or only 33 from Argos) they seemed a bit steep. So I decided to 'check for alternatives'. Both the Kay's and Argos site seemed to think that men's trainers were an acceptable alternative! How does that work?

I might treat myself to a pair from Argos, if I can't find anything I like in a shop. I don't really want to buy online, as I like trying them on too much!

Obsessed is such a strong word. I prefer to think of myself as "differently enthusiastic"

Try Matalan - the branch near me had something similar and they were only about £12

Thanks for the tip!

I found a similar pair in Stead & Simpson for about £17, which I quite liked, but they didn't have the exact style I liked the best in UK8. The best they had was on a 2" kitten heel, which I didn't like.

I have a not so fun shopping experience to share. :( I saw that the HH Place "Shops" list mentiones the online shop Sunsetstripshoes (http://www.sunsetstripshoes.co.uk).

I purchased a pair of shoes, paid by credit card and wait for the goods for about 6 months. But nothing came. So I made a query, but no response. Now I see that the link even doesn't work... Has any of you ordered anything from that shop?

HH forever!

Most credit cards have a feature that protects customers from transactions like this. It might pay you to check with them to see if they can recover your money for you.

Being mentally comfortable in your own mind is the key to wearing heels in public.

Sunset Strip is a USA brand of shoe. Many of the platform heels were made by Sunset Strip, though there are many competitors, now. I have always liked their quality, but I have never found them except at a regular retailer, either a store or on line. There is a Dutch Sunset Strip web site called www.sunsetstrip.nl, but they are a directory and don't sell anything, and are apparently not connected with the shoe brand.

Hiya Yamyam, I think that's one of the main problems when buying shoes online - you can't try them on and you're not sure if they're going to be ok when they eventually turn up. But when they do turn up and I start to slowly open the box I get quite excited and its like my Birthday all over again

So many shoes & boots to buy in so little time!!

I hear you Becky,

I get excited the same way when I open new shoes, but what I do first is that I close my eyes and I look at them barely until I get the surprise. I would say that most of my shoes I buy online, only a couple of them I didnt like them so much. But if you like a good site to buy good shoes you can go at http://www.pierresilber.com they dont do bull , they ship them fast and they run up to size 14 women size.

It was me that put up the www.sunsetstripshoes.co.uk link during a "brain fart" (before I became a member) as I thought it might be useful to someone, I NEVER thought they would be a money-hungry pack of liars and I am sorry if anyone got burned,I also noticed that www.sunsetstripshoes.co.uk has shutup shop (as has anyother online shop associated with Atlas Footwear.

(the parent company) On another note those 8" inch plats look VERY tippy (but Cool) and I agree that they would look good with a goldfish in each of the platforms :(

Regarding the black court style shoe with very pointy toe, cut out sides but with a high ankle strap with back strap connecting the ankle strap to the heel of the shoe, I have seen several variations of this in the last few months. One had a zip up the back strap and jewels round the ankle strap, the other had a 2 x 2-hole tie off on the ankle strap, one had a 2 inch heel, the other style just over 3 inch. These were in Stead and Simpson at about GBP 20 or so, and then reduced in the 2003 January sales. There are several versions in Faith, but some are quite a heavy shoe. I think Barratts had one in this style as well, and some other brands like 'Pure' and possibly Bronx also did these. There don't seem to be many left in the shops now. Bay Trading Company have some very nice ones, (with the highest heels I have seen), some made by Dolcis, others not.One has a little silver "rod" along the ankle strap, and has a high stiletto heel. I looked in the local Matalan today, for the first time in ages, and got the last pair of size 7 of the black Fiore ones with pointy toe, and kinky ankle strap (as mentioned by someone else above -- thanks for the tip); they were reduced down to GBP 6.00 to clear. They are cheaply made PU, so won't take a lot of use. Heel is about 3 inches I suppose. There was just one pair of Size 7 and one pair of Size 6 left on the shelf; now only the 6 is there! The Size 7 are on my feet now. I'm off to bed! They also had some other ones in a similar style, a heel about 5mm higher, but covered in a sort of lace effect. They are still GBP18.00, not in the sale. TK Maxx also have a style with a longer backstrap and wider ankle strap (compared to Matalan), and they look much harder wearing. They were GBP 20 I think, and have two little buckles (each on a short piece of elastic) to do up the ankle strap. There are a lot of companies doing similar styles. In a national newspaper today (or yesterday?) there were a group of ladies pictured, and one was wearing this style, but with heels that were easily 5 inches high. The wide ankle strap was also set very high on the ankle, and was totally horizontal. I notice that the cheaper brands often make the back strap too short, and the back of the ankle strap gets pulled downwards too much. I couldn't find anything in the normal Argos catalogue, and their web site would not load in Mozilla or IE 5.5 so I could not look there.

Check out the styles "Ginger-L-M" and "Ginger-H-M" at http://www.leatherworks.org.uk/acatalog/Metal_Heels.html as these are similar to the style mentioned in post 1 of this thread. They have a wide, high ankle strap, with a long connecting back strap. They are laced rather than bucked. The major difference is the metal heel (which they say is 5.5 inches); though I expect they also do this shoe with a normal heel, and maybe they do something lower with perhaps a 4 or 4.5 inch heel (perhaps elsewhere on their site).

Ah, yes, "Ginger-L-P" at http://www.leatherworks.org.uk/acatalog/Closed_Shoes.html is a normal heel, but still a very high laced D-ring ankle strap. They do do both a 5.5 inch and a 4.5 inch heel though. Still a bit more racy than the shoe in item 1 though.

I have now managed to get the Argos Additions catalogue; it's the 2003 Spring/Summer edition. I can't see the shoe posted in Item 1 in there. Maybe it was the previous catalogue issue? (In which case, perhaps they will be in a clearance sale soon?)

I never did get the http://www.argos.co.uk/ web site to work, but I then realised that Argos Additions is a separate site, which does work in Mozilla. I found this style instead, by: Sacha with an ankle chain.
