To redress the balance though, I was in Affleck's Palace* in Manchester a couple of weeks ago and saw the following sign: "Owing to the age of this building many of the floors are uneven. Persons wearing high heels are advised to take care". Nicely non-gender specific! Chris *Affleck's is a large mill-type building full of alternative clothes / music shops.
