Sorry to put another downer on things - I'm moving the weekend before so I will be pretty busy and unable to make it. Shame really - I fancied doing some shopping too! Oh well next time Nik

Thanks for the invite. I would quite like to come as it sounds a lot of fun and it would be a great opportunity to get out in my heels. I have only taken a few steps outdoors in heels before bottling. I will give it some serious thought but at present i think that the chances of me being there are quite remote.

Thank you Wheels for replying! Firstly can I point out that you don't have to attend in heels necessarily. We always say "Heels not compulsory" and a few of our guys (and gals) turn up in ordinary flat shoes. Secondly, another flexible approach is that of some members who bring along a little bag or back-pack containing two or three pairs of shoes (say flatties, mid-height and high) so that you can change into whatever seems appropriate at the time. We always have a great day of shoppping or browsing in the best of the shoe shops, plus enjoying a great lunch and some drinks plus generally socialising and chatting about heely thgings and every other topic under the sun. You'd find that we are a remarkably straight (non-gay), intelligenmt and sociabler crowd. I do hope that this reply might tempt you into coming along. Cheerfully yours, Heelfan

OOps .... foulup. Things in my life are getting a bit complicated (buying and selling houses and all the other stuff), so I will be in the Channel Isles for that weekend. I am available for the next weekend, though. Xa

Hi all Long time no see. I really look forward to meet you all again. For information. I will arrive on friday the 5th at 11.10am at Stansted and I will be leaving on sunday the 7th. My flight goes back to Sweden at 19.00pm from Stansted and I have to be there something like 2 hour before. Do you know how I best can get there from the heelmeet in time? I think I can manage to find a youth hostel to stay on in London if I ca´'t find anything more exciting. My flight is already booked. Since there is no activities during friday and saturday, as far as I know, I think I will try to find good shops and and second hand markets. Do you know about any good ones? Or do you have any other sugestions that I can do until sunday? I am looking forward to get some really nice days in UK. It seems like there are several of us that would like to have some sort of heelmeeting at suturday the 6th. Since I will be in the London area it would nice and fun to have somthing like a premeeting. Is there any interest for that? See you soon Beeblebrox

I think I can be around on Sat 6th November. It's not 100% certain at the moment though. Anyone up for it? We could do something different and go down Portobello road market in the morning. There used to be loads of 2nd hand shoes down the Goldbourne road end. I don't know if there still is but we could always move on if it is no good. In any case the market is big fun, or at least it was in the 1980s!

Wow! Two London Heelmeets on consecutive days! That would be a first! Howzabout it folks? Please post: Who can attend on Saturday 6th November (Portabello Road etc.)? Who can attend on Sunday 7th November (Lakeside & Bluewater)? Who can attend both? Who can attend neither? Cheerfully yours, Heelfan

Here's what travel UK has to say about PB Road

http://www.touruk.co.uk/london_markets/portobelloroad_market1.htm

Basically you start at the South End fairly early about 9.00 and gradually make your way North. The South end is trendy expensive antiques and the like. As you get further North, the market becomes more and more run down until some of the "stalls" are nothing more than a pile of old second hand shoes in the gutter at £1 a pair or similar.

There are lots of other attractions such as street performers, organ grinders with monkeys, and the general colour of Notting Hill.

Your airport and Lakeside are in the same county if that helps, there might be someone going your way though you'd have to leave at 16.00.

Just looked at the board after my holiday in Portugal and a hectic week. Count me in for the Saturday meeting in London, but not for the Sunday meeting as I will be on the bus that day (Lincoln anyone?) Regards Calv

Excellent news Calv! Thanks for confirming that you are coming on Saturday! The were only going to be three of us, but not it's four, which will give Beeblebrox and bit more company as he's especially coming all the way from Sweden. Cheers, Heelfan

Calling all interested Heel-Meeters! A reminder that the Heel-Meets (6th & 7th Nov) are this coming weekend! We usually suggest to all attenders that they bring along a print-out of the above arrangements, including our mobile phone numbers etc. Any last-minute attenders can simply turn up on the day of course, but it's nicer if you post here first so that we know when the Saturday and Sunday gatherings are complete before moving off. Hi gang. I will be delayed at the start of the day taking an urgent vanload of freight to Heathrow Airport so I probably wont catch up with you until mid afternoon. I'll ring or text Firefox then to arrange a meeting point and hopefully meet you for a beer or two. See you tomorrow (hopefully!) Calv

We missed you Ellen, but here was a quick report of what did happen. I met up with Patrik and Notiing Hill Gate at 10.00am. Si, Dr Shoe, and Calv had all phoned to say they would be late, but no matter, Patrik and I set off for Portobello Road. We were both wearing black high heeled Western boots. We'd got all the way down to the Goldborne Road in about an hour and a half. The bottom end was much more organised than it used to be The council had marked out the road in market stall pitches and they are charging £50 a day for a stall. Gone are the days when an old tramp would turn up with a pram load full of shoes and dump them in gutter to complete his "stall". By 11.30 Dr Shoe had met up with us near the flea market under the Westway. We tried couple of pairs of boots at a large stall. Dr Shoe was interested in some second hand knee boots but when told the starting price for negotiation was £105 we soon left that overpriced arena for a pint in the Market Arms on the other side of Westway. Making full use of the mobiles, Simon now joined us in the pub and the four of us went upstairs for a bargain Thai meal, about £12.00 a head with drinks. We made our way back to Notting Hill Gate, on the way stopping in at Egoshego where Patrick and I picked up a pair of bargain size 41 ankle boots for £5.00. Dr Shoe had already got some of the same style in size 42. We took the tube to Camden and started taking in the shops there when Calv phoned in and met us at one of the stores. We dropped in to Egoshego in camden and Patrick picked up a pair of 42's in the same £5.00 style, letting Si have his 41's. 4 of us thus ended up with the same style and Calv would have been in on the act too except they had run out of 42's. After this we went round the stable market including some dance/trance futuristic shopping at Cyberdog. We managed to lose Si in the process but the ever useful mobiles enabled reuinion at the Oxford Arms at 6.30 for some pints of hoegarden. An hour in there was followed by dash to Oxford Circus where we took in Top Shop, Shelleys, and Barratts before retiring for some well earned food at the Deep Pan Pizza place. Eat as much as you like for £5.99 was not an offer to be refused. That brought us up to 9.30pm and time to go home after an exhausting day. Can you believe most of these guys are doing this tomorrow too! Best shoes of the day: Some New Micro platform styles in boots and pumps at Shelleys. These guys really know how to make continually good styles. Worst shoes of the day: Barratts - what has happened to that place? - especially the ankle boot heel shapes. Most of it was rubbish.
