Do you surf the net from work?

Recommended Posts

As I said in another thread, I'd use my own laptop if I was going to do any extensive surfing. I can't stand nosey sys admins and big brother attitudes anyway.

One of my friends who used to work for BT said the system banned any link using certain words eg Porn, cumshot etc etc. However, they got round it by resolving the URL's to numbers, hence http://freexxx.asiancumshots.com became http://123.456.78.90. Ingenious, but I'm sure where they were going still showed in the server logs!

I check mail using internet explorer. Now it is funny how it is the company's site for people to use as remote mail access, and it is listed as high security. if they monitor the site, then it isn't high security, is it? We already hear that people review all internal e-mail subjects to make sure employees are not absuing mail and waisting time, but we have ways around this already.

Looks like you've discovered the benefits of 'web client'. Think there's a lot of us around anyhow. Some of the systems people in big corporations think there smart yet there not. Here's an example, in a particular organisation they set about locating movie files (avi, mpg etc) sure they found them, however, if one zipped them they didn't. So much for expertise. Inga

you can send any information to anyone using PGP encryption. It's so good that the US government wanted it banned! If Echelon can't decipher it then neither can the adminstrators. Unless they have the decryption key of course

Look like it is all most time to go to wireless. Cell phones Accessing to the internet just started with the here in the U.S. with in the last year. Some day when the economy picks up again you can have it at for your computer. Last time I knew there was a company in my state developing a system. [ This Message was edited by: hoverfly on 2002-03-13 17:47 ]

I sometimes surf from work, but as I've said elsewhere, my EPM's are ultra-conservative. However, I have a laptop with modem, and our office has a couple of analogue lines left... Need I say more  . My SO had the ultimate solution at her previous job - she was the system administrator, so she could do what she liked B) .

Obsessed is such a strong word. I prefer to think of myself as "differently enthusiastic"

Sure. If _ANYBODY_ would come to nag that I'm not allowed to watch this or that, I immediately start working 9 to 5 days instead of the usual 12 or-so hours that I put in. I also have ADSL at home to the company network. So I surf, however only occasionally due to lack of time, using the corporate proxy server. Bert

What's all the fuss about?

I surf the net all the time where I'm at, but then again, I do work in a high-speed internet call center, so I guess it's a given that you would surf quite a bit when it's slow like I do. From what it sounds like, I have the most surfing freedom at work thus far

I look up recipies at work. No one can fault me for that, everyone knows I like to cook. I have looked at Jenny's page once from work, but since I never know who is watching, I try to keep it to e-mail only, which is usually quite tame. Besides, I need two hours to read and post here, and I only get one hour for lunch!

i think the bigger challenge for me would be goin to this site from school...then againm 99.9% of the sites on the internet could be passed off as a "popup", someone asks why your looking at that, just say "oh, it just pooped up when i was searching for something else"
