meganiwish Posted May 10, 2013 Posted May 10, 2013 I was watching the television this morning and I saw a thing about aerogels. They said they'd been developed by NASA to catch stardust. Apparently they disperse light like the sky does so they appear blue.. I want to hold a piece of the sky and catch stardust. Anyway, I looked on the internet and found this http://www.aerogel.org/ Well, you can imagine how excited I was. And then I read that there's a thing to tell you how to make a DIY supercritical dryer. I can't even get my laundry dry in the winter, however much I criticise, and DIY's not my thing, but I bet one of you chaps who's good with a hammer could make one and tell me what it's like to hold the sky.
at9 Posted May 10, 2013 Posted May 10, 2013 You can buy aerogel insulation boards to reduce heat losses, espeically from solid walls. For example: http://www.instagroup.co.uk/instaclad/insulation-range.aspx I suspect they need careful handling to retain their performance.
meganiwish Posted May 10, 2013 Author Posted May 10, 2013 Oh dear, how terribly prosaic. But I do like Instaclad's slogan, 'Up Against the Wall'. It brings to mind so many possibilities.
