Blacksheep Posted December 29, 2011 Posted December 29, 2011 I found, that just around home was not like 'the real thing' I T wasn't till I bought a pair of 4" heeled calf length boots and did a few kilometers that my calf muscles told me what I had Ben doing. About once a week there after, two or three k at a time, but not over do it, your confidence will build, your muscles will handle it and your ankle flex will improve. Around home is great, but practice all surfaces. When walking, think of your self walking along a plank of about 200mm wide, knees not ahead of ankles, shoulders back, and looking at your feet as you walk. Heelster Posted December 29, 2011 Posted December 29, 2011 I guess I was one of the lucky ones. I've worn cowboy boots from elementary school up until toay, and it's second nature at those heights. When I made the jump to 4" heeled boots, it came pretty easy. That's only been just over a year. My first outing in a stiletto heel was a shoe just about the same as the one in my avatar. Did over a mile in a 'Walk a mile in her shoes' event. Up and down hills, cobblestone, and crappy sidewalks. Went pretty well too. I prefer a platform of some kind. seems a bit easier on the ball of my foot. Don't like feeling pebbles through the sole. I do find a wedge easier, and not as loud. I do find my stride is a bit shorter, but I don't mind that. Makes it seem like a more relaxed walk. Steep down hill stretches, changing surfaces, and gravel are my only concerns. If your not used to the height, a shorter heel may a good option. The only time I see a big change is when I go to a true 5" height change. You do have to pay attention a bit more to surfaces, and adjust accordingly. Mall walking may be a good practice area. some different surfaces, but in general, pretty flat and smooth. Can't offer much more advice than that. I should have made the jump to high heels years ago.
Blacksheep Posted December 29, 2011 Posted December 29, 2011 'and looking at your feet as you walk' should have read 'Not looking at the ground or at your feet as you walk.' That can be a dead give away. Blacksheep
Elswyth Posted January 3, 2012 Author Posted January 3, 2012 I appear to be doing okay in carpeted restaurants, so I decided to take the next step - tiled floors, the sort that appear in shopping malls and such. It was horrible! I felt like my heels would slip at each step, the floors were so slippery! The soles of the shoes do have small lines on them for friction, but it is still slippery. Any way I can make them grip the floor better?

Elswyth Posted January 3, 2012 Author Posted January 3, 2012 Hm, I've not seen the sole treads anywhere. Do they go by any other names?
Shafted Posted January 3, 2012 Posted January 3, 2012 Hm, I've not seen the sole treads anywhere. Do they go by any other names? Not sure I haven't used them in quite a while. I have somewhat mastered slippery surfaces (with the exception of ice) so I don't use them anymore. Here's a link to them. http://www.deelsonheels.com/969_Non_slip_Stickon_Sole_Pads/p133745_317680.aspx Shafted, the boots that is! Elswyth Posted January 3, 2012 Author Posted January 3, 2012 Thanks! I'll check them out. Any tips for mastering the slippery surfaces without them?

Elswyth Posted January 3, 2012 Author Posted January 3, 2012 I would, but I don't have those surfaces at home, and I walk incredibly slowly and unsexily on them outside.
