Heelyfan Posted May 26, 2003 Posted May 26, 2003 SUMMER 2003 MEETING. To try to consolidate all recent fairly ineffective suggestions (Meadowhall up North,Birmingham in the W. Midlands and Bristol/Swindon in the S. West), instead I suggested the solution of going more UK-central to OXFORD ON SATURDAY 12th JULY. Firefox approves of this and can make it! So can I! There's a start, and we hope the central location will help boost attendance (all guys and girls hugely welcome, in heels or not!). Let's make it a really good one! - please post your responses here. Cheers, Heelsfan
Heelfan Posted May 28, 2003 Posted May 28, 2003 That's great - we've now got three for starters, and counting! Firefox is coming, Xaphod has just come on board, and I'm the third. (Wearing of heels nice but not compulsory!). Come on all you guys and gals, all-aboard for meeting/fun/shopping/socialising and let's make a really great day of it! Simply post below this message to say you'd like to come, and in good time we'll settle on a meeting time and spot. ALL MOST WELCOME! Cheers, Heelsfan Onwards and upwards!

Cheers, Heelsfan Depending on child-support arrangements and so on, I'll try to be there. If I can be, I will be! Obsessed is such a strong word. I prefer to think of myself as "differently enthusiastic"
Firefox Posted May 29, 2003 Posted May 29, 2003 I don't think once can get more "UK central" than Bimingham eh ?
Calv Posted May 29, 2003 Posted May 29, 2003 I should be OK. Do your own thing. Don't be a victim of conformity. Calv
Yamyam Posted May 29, 2003 Posted May 29, 2003 I don't think once can get more "UK central" than Bimingham eh ? Oh, don't get me started! "We call it the Midlands because it's cunningly hidden in the middle of the country" - me, to anyone of the dozens of people who ask where the Midlands is/are. Obsessed is such a strong word. I prefer to think of myself as "differently enthusiastic"
Heelfan Posted May 30, 2003 Posted May 30, 2003 Firefox - I suggested Oxford because several budding meeters (including you) had been considering Bristol, Swindon or Oxford in recent months, and then you suggested Oxford because of it's pubs. Being the most UK-central of the three, I hoped Oxford would pull in those Southern members, whilst also being manageable for the Meadowhall contingent. Birmingham is a great idea a central meeting, don't you think it might confuse the July 2003 meet to swap locations yet again so near to the event(?), especially as I've posted OXFORD on your 'Aesthetic' forum and also on Jenny's forum. Now that we have several members have confirmed that they will the Oxford meet, can I suggest letting Oxford it stand for this meet, but keeping Birmingham very high on the list for the one after? If you are agreeable to this suggestion, the only other thing remaining is to post a specific assembly spot for us all to meet at. Can you please post a suggested meeting spot, as I hardly know Oxford? Cheers, Heelsfan. Onwards and upwards!
Firefox Posted May 30, 2003 Posted May 30, 2003 Haha, it was a joke! I'm not suggesting Birmingham as an alternative but aside from all that, it is the geographic centre of England no matter how much you argue otherwise Who else is coming to Oxford?
Heelyfan Posted June 3, 2003 Author Posted June 3, 2003 Meeting Time and Place - Firefox says: 10am outside OXFORD UNIVERSITY SHOP, 106 HIGH STREET, OXFORD. He invites anyone lost or late to telephone 07941 172043. In addition to a fun day's shopping etc., he hopes that some/all of us can stay on into the evening for a meal and drinks. All welcome (Guys AND Gals). Looking forward to my first meet and to meeting all who attend! Cheers, Heelfan.
squirrelheels Posted June 7, 2003 Posted June 7, 2003 I don't think once can get more "UK central" than Bimingham eh ? I think Nottingham wins on the central part. Shame nobody else could make it except me, Xa and Calv. Unfortunately, travelling round the country for stuff like this is still not an option for me, as I'm bound by parents and they would ask questions. The other issue is that they pay train fares. And I don't have an income, so I'm afraid I won't be able to make it. I'm up for something in Nottingham again, but don't let me stop this one going ahead. You'd best take some pictures! SH Hi! I'm a signature virus! Copy me into your sig and help me spread!
Heelfan Posted June 7, 2003 Posted June 7, 2003 Well, I suppose no UK location is ever going to suit everybody. But just in case anyone has got confused by the above talk of other cities, can I stress that this forthcoming 12th JULY 2003 MEET will firmly be at OXFORD starting at 10am OUTSIDE THE OXFORD UNIVERSITY BOOKSHOP, 106 HIGH STREET (anyone delayed ring Firefox on 07941 172043). GUYS AND GALS most welcome for a fun/shopping/chatting/eating day till evening. Heels nice but not compulsory!. However, after the Oxford Meet, it would be good to review the various other cities recently suggested, and see if further meets can be arranged at some or all of those locations. Birmingham and Nottingham seem to be high on the list, and what about another London meet sometime for those of us who haven't been to one yet? Thoughts? Cheers, Heelsfan. Onwards and upwards!
squirrelheels Posted June 7, 2003 Posted June 7, 2003 Sounds like a great idea heelsfan. We could have it done on a rotational basis or something... although that could easily be deemed as WAY too organised! I could possibly do London, but the involves more money. It only costs me 80p to get to my own city centre! (Actually 0p since my parents pay for a monthly unlimited bus pass!!) SH Hi! I'm a signature virus! Copy me into your sig and help me spread!
Yamyam Posted June 8, 2003 Posted June 8, 2003 If we could get a decent schedule sorted out, then perhaps we could persuade some of our members in other parts of the world to join in. I think we're on a bit of a loser on attracting the New Zealanders, sadly. We could get tour t-shirts printed, too! Obsessed is such a strong word. I prefer to think of myself as "differently enthusiastic"
Firefox Posted June 8, 2003 Posted June 8, 2003 Coach trips to London are not too bad on the pocket. But you need some wheels soon SH. It wont be too long. Until then, persuade the parents you are going on a "Bible Study" weekend. They will be happy to cough, and there's no need to lie either. Take a bible along with you to study on the coach.
Heelfan Posted June 9, 2003 Posted June 9, 2003 Great! Always listen to Firefox everyone, he's got the wisdom of Solomon! Alternatively, SH could always say he's 'Going to an exhibition' - an exhibition of guys in street-heels! At the end of the day SH, remember it's OUR lives, not just our parent's lives. As FF says, coach travel is very cheap these days to London, Nottingham, Birmingham etc. and we've all got to live a little. Until 12th July, our attention is on making the Oxford Meet a success, but thereafter I look forward to joining in these forum discussions on planning the subsequent meet(s). Cheers, Heelfan. Onwards and upwards!
Firefox Posted June 9, 2003 Posted June 9, 2003  I'm sure at least 50% of what I say is absolute rubbish, I don't claim to be an oracle or anything
Heelfan Posted June 9, 2003 Posted June 9, 2003 Ah Firefox, me doth thinkest you sell yourself short! You're obviously a scholar and a gentlemen, hence the hallowed portals of learning and those ancient towers and spires of Oxford will be a goodly and fitting place for you to convene the meeting with us on 12th July. My felicitations, Heelsfan. Onwards and upwards!
Yamyam Posted June 10, 2003 Posted June 10, 2003 Ah, but be careful what heels you wear to Oxford - all those antique stone surfaces and so on can be rather dangerous in heels! Still planning on being there... Obsessed is such a strong word. I prefer to think of myself as "differently enthusiastic"
Heelfan Posted June 12, 2003 Posted June 12, 2003 Well. maybe the rough surfaces will add to the fun! With a month to go before the Oxford Meet, we're doing quite well. So far, we're expecting Firefox, Xaphod, YamYam, Daz and Me (that's already 5). Further guys and gals are most welcome to come on board for our fun/shopping/eating/chatting/pubbing day out, whether or not in heels: OXFORD MEET, 12th JULY 2003, 10am START OUTSIDE OXFORD UNIVERSITY BOOKSHOP, 106 HIGH STREET, OXFORD (IF DELAYED RING FIREFOX ON 07941 172043) TILL EVENING. Let's have a great time folks! Cheers, Heelsfan Onwards and upwards!
Heelfan Posted June 21, 2003 Posted June 21, 2003 Just a reminder guys and gals, that there are still three weeks to go if any more of you decide you'd like to join us for our fun day in Oxford. There's five or six of us expected so far, so why not join us to make some new like-minded friends and enjoy some shopping, chatting, swapping info and anecdotes, eating and even venturing into the odd hostely! Cheerfully yours, Heelsfan Onwards and upwards!
Yamyam Posted June 22, 2003 Posted June 22, 2003 Well, I'll definitely be there. I have child care arranged, it's now just a question of who I can persuade to join us! Obsessed is such a strong word. I prefer to think of myself as "differently enthusiastic"
jim Posted June 24, 2003 Posted June 24, 2003 I think we're on a bit of a loser on attracting the New Zealanders, sadly. Hhmmmmm.....A get together at Oxford huh. Well, if I launch the dingy tomorrow and row at a good clip..I should be there in less than a month, especially with a prevailing wind and a strong tide. May look like Robinson Caruso when I arrive but thats nothing a shave and a hot shower won't fix.. jim
Yamyam Posted June 24, 2003 Posted June 24, 2003 Come on over, Jim. Don't forget to allow time for getting home again, tho' Obsessed is such a strong word. I prefer to think of myself as "differently enthusiastic"
Heelfan Posted June 25, 2003 Posted June 25, 2003 Excellent news YamYam! - Well organised! And Jim, happy sailing, and don't forget to take some closed-toe pumps (or OXFORDS) for bailing-out (peep-toes might give you that horrible sinking feeling)!. ISLEBEESEEINGYUH! Cheers, Heelsfan Onwards and upwards!
Heelfan Posted July 4, 2003 Posted July 4, 2003 Just a final call (with only a week to go now!) - "All aboard that's comin' aboard!": FUN SUMMER 2003 HEEL-MEET AND SHOPPING/EATING/CHATTING/PUBBING DAY! OXFORD (U.K.), NEXT SATURDAY 12th JULY 10 am to EVENING!. MEET OUTSIDE OXFORD UNIVERSITY BOOKSHOP, 106 HIGH STREET, OXFORD AT 10 am (ANYONE DELAYED - RING FIREFOX'S MOBILE 07941 172043). GUYS AND GALS ALL MOST WELCOME (WHETHER IN HEELS OR NOT) TO MAKE IT A GREAT DAY! Islebeeseeingyuh! Cheerfully yours, Heelsfan Onwards and upwards!
Firefox Posted July 9, 2003 Posted July 9, 2003 I'll look forward to seeing you there. I'm in for the whole day and contactable on the mobile which heelfan posted above. If anyone else would like to post their current mobile number please do so.
MountainTop Posted July 10, 2003 Posted July 10, 2003 Hi I am new to the group but I will be turning up on Sat to met the guys in Oxford.
Yamyam Posted July 10, 2003 Posted July 10, 2003 Unfortunately I've had a bit of a last-minute disaster! My 92-year old step-grandmother has just been rushed to hospital for emergency surgery. She's expected to make a good recovery, but with someone of 92, you never know exactly. The problem is that my father and stepmother were due to look after Max, but now this has happened, they are having to change their priorities. So, unfortunately, I can't come to Oxford. I was really looking forward to coming along, but unfortunately this is how life is. All I can say is that I hope those who can make it have a great time! And if anyone could go, but hasn't decided, I'd say that these meets are a fantastically liberating thing to do. I'll always remember when we had a Birmingham meet, what a weekend that was! Darn, darn, and double darn! Obsessed is such a strong word. I prefer to think of myself as "differently enthusiastic"
xaphod Posted July 11, 2003 Posted July 11, 2003 I'm there .... Having fumbled my way across the English Channel in fog yesterday, I'm now ready for some relaxation from playing chicken with supertankers .... yes I know my old tub weighs 5 tons, but that's peanuts compared with 100,000 tons. I hope to be at the western park and ride around 0930. Xa
