Well, for me there's 'old' and 'new' cartoons. I like Roadrunner, Pink Panther, Tom & Jerry, and Dangermouse. Oh, and Hong Kong Phooey. As for 'new', thanks to Telewest, I've got Cartoon Network, so I'm getting into Dexter's Laboratory, Courage the Cowardly Dog, and some others. As for comic strips: Dilbert and only Dilbert.

Yeah, Linux can be a bit tricky (he said, reinstalling the AlphaServer).
StarOffice is most excellent. Star 5.2 is free, 6.0 is a paid-for product apparently, but OpenOffice (from OpenOffice Org) is free.
If you like what you've got, great. But I'm a geek, so I'm into playing. In fact, I've just acquired a MicroVax 3100/80
At the end of the day, it's not like they're shoes or anything

I've been to the US, but not for about ten years or so. I remember 'Payless' being a DIY store that was bought out by B&Q or some such. I'd be interested if any UK-based people remember that one. I suppose the UK equivalent might be something like "What Everyone Wants" or - duh - no, it's gone. There's a bit WEW in Tamworth, where I have been known to go shop. Mind you, they've got nothing interesting above an 8UK, so it's lucky I'm an 8UK, really
Actually, we're out of boot season anyhow, so there's not much point me going shopping until September

Definitely. The first boots I bought (after admitting to myself that this wasn't going away) are about a 3 inch, but they feel flat now. I'm working on getting comfortable in my 4" vanes, but it'll be a while before those feel like they're flat too
. I've got a pair of 2.5 inch wedges and they feel like trainers!

Most of the people who know me don't know yet... Most of my friends, and certainly most of the more open-minded ones are down south. I plan to get down there as soon as I can, and go for it in some heels, and see what happens! I don't think there'll be a problem, but at some point you have to go for it, just to feel free. I was there for New Year, but chickened out
. I missed the weekend just gone, but I'm working on a party in June.

Reboot? I run Windows 2000. Hardly ever reboot it. But I just thought: I had a tattoo done on Monday, and it's 'heeling' up nicely!

I've used Windows 2000 and Windows XP on several different computers, and not had any major problems, unless I do something really stoooopid. I've found Windows 95 a pain and Windows 98 a total and utter mess. I use Windows 2000/XP on my work laptop and my home desktop machines, Red Hat 6.2 on my home laptop, and I'm 28 minutes away from Red Hat 7.1 on my AlphaServer 1000A. Let's just hope the network card works, as I'm running out of swappable hardware. Computers - an excellent substitute for a life

Oh, that dammed computer. It heeled again!
Uh, surely, your computer 'heeling' is a good thing? Like 'I put a different SCSI card in my computer and it heeled up the RAID array'?
If my computer failed, I'd say it had 'comfy loafered again'!

Well, I think wearing slightly longer trousers (pants are those things you wear under your trousers, like boxer shorts, imho) is a confidence thing for me. Dizzyblonde and I found some wide-legged longer jeans for me in Next to Nothing, Birmingham. I plan to wear them next time I get the chance, just to build up confidence. But those who've said 'Don't hide!' have a point - just more confidence than some others, like me

Well, I'm a geek, so I have a PII 233 laptop running RedHad Linux, a PII 233 machine running some kind of Windows, and three AlphaServers. As soon as I find out how to get RH7.1 to drive my RAID controllers, then I'll have at least one more machine in use. Oh, plus a dead PC, a laptop that work lent me, and a PalmPilot. Do I win anything
?

I think the most dangerous question is "What's the worst that can happen?"
-
One of the first places I got to wear heels was in the safety of my own car, so I've had a fair bit of practice driving in heels. I drive a manual (that'll be stick shift) car, and always have. I've found that up to 4" isn't a problem so far, but you do need to take extra care. The only time I had to pull over and change was early on, in a two mile traffic jam up a hill in London, which was just too much. Otherwise, I go for it. Certainly when I went out to Meadowhall, I drove there and back in my 4" heels, and didn't have a big problem. I think care and practice are needed!

I think it's one to talk about. After all, it's not entirely unknown in a relationship for two people to misinterpret stuff widely (or maybe it's just me
) Have a try at a conversation about it. If you're planning to break it off anyway, what have you got to lose? And, if you're going out with this person, you must like other things about them - do you want to lose that?

Like Firefox, I think I'd carry on wearing what I'm (dreaming of) wearing now.
That'd be carrying on in my wedges, and some thinner heels.
For work, I'd go for suit trousers, cut a little longer and wider, For casual wear, I'd go for jeans, either longer bootcut or normal to show off my heels, depending on my mood. I just know I'll get zapped for this, but I quite like the look of heels hidden under longer trousers, just peeking out occasionally. Alternatively, I've seen some trousers where the last few inches of the outside seam is split, to show off your heels as you walk.
How's that?

And just to get us back on-topic... (Ahem) "The last time I thought 'Why did I wear these shoes' was when I kicked off my dull boring flat no-heel mundane plain black shoes last night after getting home!" Roll on the next chance to pop my heels on. I'm on holiday with my little boy next week, so no more heels for a week or so.

I've got 3 pairs of boot cut jeans now. A pair from Next, who are very good for longer length legs. These have a button fly on the "mens" side. Excellent black jeans, I'm wearing them now.
I also have a couple of pairs of Wrangler Tina bootcut jeans. These came from Matalan and also see plenty of wear. One pair is a size 12, the other a size 14. They are cut quite slim and I am very pleased with the fit. I tried them on in the changing rooms in store with no problems.
Course you could always go for the baggies with the knee height crotch.
Well, that's me off to the shops then. I've got a Matalan card, and there's a Next in my local mall, so I think I'll have a look around. Thanks.
And knee-length crotches just aren't me

I absolutely agree. Mind, I think that I'm catching up now. But yeah, I went thru loads of stuff growing up. If only I'd known at 16 what I know now, life would have been so much easier!

Damn those ties
. I suppose I should be flattered that so many people wanted to discuss my random thoughts. Roll on the next heated debate

I didn't really intend this to become quite such a heated debate
! It was a random thought that occurred to me on the way home from somewhere. I blame it on lack of blood to the brain caused by my wearing a tie at the time!

The only thing I could think of to say in reply was: "Well articulated, Laurie!"

what colours are not "girl colours" ?
Like we keep saying in various places, girls get to wear what they want, and guys don't. I've never seen a colour that women wouldn't wear just because of the colour.
Perhaps we need a 'pinkplace.org' to work on colour equality

I don't know how people feel about purple in the Midlands, but I wear purple shirts, I own three cars, two of them dark purple (Neon and 240sx).
I'm based in the Midlands, and I've never had any comments about purple. In fact, I'm known throughout my company for being heavily into purple. No-one's ever assumed I'm gay.
I've always wanted a purple car, tho'. You're lucky

This just reminded me of (IIRC) Oscar Wilde's famous comment. When he was asked how long he'd suffered from homosexuality, he replied that he'd always rather enjoyed it.
Don't know about anyone else, but that's the kind of attitude I'm working on![](//hhplace.org/applications/core/interface/js/spacer.png)
