  1. <moderator note> We had two threads under this title, one in "HHPlace Cafe" and one here in "For the Guys". I have merged the two threads into "For the Guys" and left an expiring redirect in "HHplace Cafe". The redirect will disappear in a week to prevent clutter. By then all interested posters will know to look for it here. Since this topic was brought up by a comment in the "Girls' " forum, should this thread be moved to "For Everybody"? We now return you to your regularly scheduled programming. . . <end of moderator note>

  2. I'm with Dr. Shoe on this question -- who cares? or more to the point, why should we care? 99% of a man's DNA is the same as a woman's -- it's that 1% that makes a big difference. That said, there are women who weld and rebuild engines and there are men who take care of small children and sew. It may not be the general rule but such individuals do exist. It was suggested in the other thread that football (not sure if it is the American variety or what we Yanks call "soccer") is the "last bastion of masculinity". There are men who don't give a hoot about football (either variety) and there are women who love it. So again, you cannot really make a generality here. I personally would say the "last bastion of masculinity" would have something to do with noise, smoke, fire and wheels but it is easy to poke holes in that theory too. Since the gender-wars of the 60's we (as a society) have been concentrating on the differences between the sexes. But those differences are wondrous if you allow yourself to explore them. Roxy's eloquent answer is the correct one -- and its converse is correct too.

  3. It is most likely: "These members keep their computers switched on 24/7 and never log out." With the advent of WiFi, DSL, cable and satellite Internet connections, the need to dial out and establish a link goes away. Your system is on the 'net as soon as it boots and stays that way until you turn it off. So if you leave your browser up and HHplace is always on your screen you will probably always be on the active list. The server does have a time-out for activity -- I believe it is on the order of an hour. When you log on to the site, the system puts you on the active list. Then it starts marking time. If you don't do anything for the time limit, it drops you off the list. If you make any server requests before the limit times out, the timer is reset and you stay on the list. A server request may be loading a page, looking at a thread, posting, or whatever. Playing the arcade games will keep you on the active list too.

  4. Welcome aboard, larkine2000! There are a whole bunch of us with a "thing" about boots, especially those with a heel. But HHplace really isn't a fetish site, it is a fashion site. Fetish content is best reserved for other sites. That said, this is the place to talk about your favorite pair of boots, where and when you see them, how they coordinate with the rest of the outfit (-- and even if you sneak out in them yourself).

  5. <mod mode> HHplace is not a hookup site or a sex site or a fetish site or a picture site, it is primarily a fashion community. We discuss shoes, heeled shoes -- how, when and where we wear them, how we coordinate them, how we appreciate them and how they have contributed to our lives. In the process we get to know each other. We even make a few friends. Your request comes across as a bit "forward" and your desires would be better served by a few clicks at any search engine. Try typing "high heel pictures" into Google. You will get more than a few hits. <mod mode off>

  6. Replacing a heel tap shouldn't involve drilling. There is a tube (usually rolled steel) running through the heel. It reinforces the heel, the plastic alone is not strong enough to withstand the forces of walking. The heel tap has a pin embedded in it and this pin is sized to fit tightly inside that steel tube. The sides of the pin are ribbed for extra grip on the inside of the tube. The old heel tap (or whatever is left of it) should be removable by gripping it with locking pliers and applying a twisting/pulling motion. If the old tap crumbles then grip the exposed metal end of the pin. Now if the tap has worn so far down that there is not enough pin to grip, then file or grind the pin flat with the end of the heel and drive it farther into the tube. Then install the new tap, seating it by grasping the toe of the shoe and rapping the end of the heel against a hard surface. If you have drilled, melted glue and caused covering to separate then you have probably done irreparable damage to the heel. Next step is to take the shoes to a repairer to be re-heeled, if they are valuable enough to save. PS: Please see the HHplace-specific FAQ at the top of the Hellos. . . forum for an explanation of why posting pictures doesn't work for you at this time.

  7. Okay, that was a first. But why doesn't the picture show up?

The picture looks fine to me. Far more than just "fine", to be specific.

Try this: UserCP (Up near top of screen) --> Edit Options (left hand sidebar, under "Settings and Options" --> scroll down to "Thread Display Options" and look at "Show Images (including attached images and images in %7Boption%7D code". It should be checked. If it isn't, check it and then scroll all the way down and click "Save Changes".

  8. <mod mode> I am renaming this thread. While I "get" the lighthearted aspect behind the name, we really do not want that four letter word "p__n" hanging out there for Google's spider-bots to find. We expend enough effort trying to keep the salivating Neanderthals away from this place, we don't want anything to entice them. The picture itself is perfectly tasteful. <end mod mode>

  9. I had a "trick" back before my wife died. Realizing that being attracted to a "member of the opposite sex" is as natural a thing a breathing, the question becomes just how to deal with it. When I found myself admiring another woman, I would focus on just what it was about her that I found attractive. It might have been her hair, the shape of her face, her figure, whatever. Then I would find that feature in my wife -- which wasn't hard, as she was rather attractive herself. At that point, the question became very simple -- do I want to risk something that is already a part of my life for something I probably cannot get? To which the answer was a resounding "NO!" I would use my admiration for that "other woman" to strengthen my love for my own wife. It worked for 2 1/2 years and I believe I would be doing it today if we were still together.

  10. Swollen,

Amanda Snake has not been banned permanently, she has simply given a few days to cool of from the antagonism. We wouldn't ban Amanda at all, but we really don't need all the "bad blood".

As for the "transvestites", well, you have clearly forgotten what the word "community" means, in that if you see things you don't like or agree with, you point them out, share your thoughts rather than just get angry and rant about it. It is physically impossible for us (the staff) to fully monitor every thread all the time, we have lives too and HHplace is a volunteer operation. Letting issues escalate, then ranting about them helps nobody. That's why there are facilities for all of us to report inappropriate content.

As far as we are concerned, we draw the line when a person presents him/herself as a member of the opposite sex. When a guy is posting pictures of himself AS A WOMAN, that is inappropriate content for our site. Tech has already pointed this out to you so please go back and read the last two sentences again.

Hey, if a guy wants to wear a skirt, so be it, he's hardly a "TV/CD/TG" is he??? The confusion on this point seems to come from people seeing things on our site that dont fit in with their pre-conceived ideas, so they just assume that because its still there, that we must be ok with it. In fact, it may still be there just because we cannot fully read each of the hundreds of threads and posts that are submitted each month, we just dont have the time to plow over it all.

This is a community, not a "slagging match", the intention is to have everybody help out, have us all work together. For the most part, the vast majority of members do help out and bring our attention to things that are going wrong and things that are inappropriate. It seems that there will always be a few who will view things the wrong way...

Rather than sit back, do nothing, stew on it and make up accusations about things we haven't even seen, why not chip in for once and actually help.... The "report post" button is that little red triangle with the exclamation point in it, right down there in the lower left corner of every posting. It's really easy to use, just click it and you will get a message box where you can tell us why you are reporting the posting. Then just hit "send report" and you are done. That would surely be far more beneficial than simply starting a row and accusing others of not doing their part. The truth is, we do as much as we can, but cant be everywhere all the time. Pitch in for once!

Further, if you have an issue with one or more moderators then say so privately. Drop one of us a PM and ASK what the situation is. All too often people have made accusations based on what they "think" rather than what's actually the case, simply because they do not see all the facts. If they had simply asked, they would have received an explanation and a whole lot of strive would have been avoided. We cannot post every detail about every fracas for everybody to see and we are fairly certain you wouldn't want us to.

As for your avatar and profile pic: No, you're not in the dog house, but they really were not suitable at all for this website. Before you say "but I've used those for ages", refer to the points above....

I didn't actually see them before then, they were pointed out by several others who did.

So in conclusion, if you see ANYTHING that might look like double standards, unsuitable material or anything else, please, just ask or report the post/thread/gallery/attachment/etc, so that it can be dealt with properly. That way we don't end up with people driving threads way off topic, and people getting angry over things that really are not even an issue...

  11. The flat-front or "U"-shape creates a sharply defined line at the face of the heel, which tends to emphasize the shape of the heel and its height. The round heel tends to "blend" that line a bit. For that reason, I would have to indicate a slight preference for the "U" style. But the preference is only slight, I wouldn't pass on a pair of shoes that I liked for other reasons simply because they had round-profile heels.

  12. Yes, CL's prices are astronomical. But they don't hold a gun to anybody's head, they don't make anybody buy their stuff. So you have a choice, if you insist on having CL, then come up with the price for the real thing. Otherwise, look for a knock-off. But if you are looking at a pair of anything claiming to be CL for less than $200, you are definitely looking at a fake. Personally, I would be more comfortable dealing with a knock-off outfit who admits that is what they are than an outfit who tries to masquerade as the original. This site has the CL logo all over the place and they try to pass themselves off as the "real thing". This means the first thing you see on their site is basically a lie. A lie is a terrible way to say "hello".

  13. You can stretch to gain width but if you need to add to the length you don't have any good options. Sometimes stretching the width will relieve pressure on the toes by allowing your foot to spread out sideways but realistically, there is very little you can do to add length.

  14. No, they are not. . .

The gallery appears to be gone. It would probably be best to attach the pictures to a posting in this thread, that way you will not have to deal with gallery permissions. Further, we try to reserve galleries for more fashion-oriented and creative pictures. See this post and this post for a better explanation of where we are going with galleries.

Pictures can be attached to postings too, use "Manage Attachments" under "Additional Options" below the editor window. You will want to use the "Enhanced Interface" editor, which can be set under "UserCP" --> "Settings & Options" --> "Edit Options". "Miscellaneous Options" is at the bottom of the screen. Don't forget to "Save Changes" if you have adjusted something.

  15. Looks like the original poster placed the pictures in a private gallery here on HHplace, which is why the staff can see them while nobody else can. This control is accessible only to the user, we cannot force a user to make his/her galleries public. Member "astrid", for this thread to make sense, you will have to make your gallery public -- you can do that under UserCP --> Networking / Pictures & Albums.

  16. It looks like the heel has "kicked in", indicating the reinforcement tube may have buckled. For best results the heel should be replaced, and for the sake of balance, it should be done on both boots. It is possible to have shoes or boots re-heeled. This is definitely a job for a professional and since these are an expensive pair of boots, they are worth the price of a job done right.

  17. Shoe Goo is intended for repairs to sneaker soles -- it's a rubber adhesive and filler similar to Contact Cement. When used as intended it is a good product but it is probably not suitable for your purpose. You may find hot-melt glue to be more suitable for your intentions but you will find some experimentation to be in order. The performance of various adhesives is strongly dependent upon the surfaces and materials being joined. Super-Glue, for instance, works great on certain materials and surfaces and utterly fails on others. You will have to try bonding samples of your bows and piping material to shoe material similar to your wife's pumps. If the shoes are leather, try gluing some scraps of the bows and piping to scraps of leather. If the shoes are PU, you may have to try decorating an old (or sacrificial) pair of PU shoes. Hot-melt glue is available in sticks and you will need a glue gun to melt them and apply the glue.

  18. Well, a couple of observations: 1) Some time ago, Tech adjusted the session delay time which keeps your session "open" longer between site accesses. (The site only "knows" you are there when you access data from the server. It then counts time after your last access -- if that timer counts down to zero, your session is considered ended. If you access data before the timer counts to zero, the timer resets.) This adjustment tends to keep users in the counts longer. 2). As of a couple of months ago, we were the target of a rather intense spam attack. Most of these were spam "bots" that are programmed to create multiple users on forums so they can drop links to other sites, advertising and the like. Not to "toot my horn" but I am one of the guards at the front gate so I saw the ones that made it through the registration screens -- there were probably a great many more that didn't make it that far. Once again, Tech to the rescue -- he installed another little mathematical hurdle into the registration process. (Turns out these 'bots flunked elementary arithmetic! -- at least for now.) I have no reason to believe the number of attempts has lessened, even though I no longer see so many get through registration. This is all the long way around saying it is likely that a large number of the "guests" in the active user count are spam-bots pinging the site -- not getting in but seeing that it is here and perhaps trying to get in.
