  1. Home-built dual-core AMD Athlon, ATI Radeon HD 3450 graphics, dual monitors (1680x1050, 1360 x 768), 1 GB RAM, 2x 500 MB drive, Slackware Linux 13-1, DSL internet connection. That's the older box but it still works. Linux is the Energizer Bunny of OS's -- it just keeps going and going and going . . .

Home-built tri-core AMD Athlon, ATI Radeon HD 3450 graphics, dual monitors (1920 x 1080, both), 2 GB RAM, 1x 500 MB drive, 1x (soon to be 2x) 1TB drive, Slackware Linux 13.37, DSL internet connection. That's the newer box. Not cutting edge but it does what I need it to do.

    -- or --

Acer Aspire One netbook, Intel Atom processor, not much memory (like maybe a gig), Windows 7, 1024 x 600 display -- when I'm on the go.

Ive gone the cheating route lately as my eyes have become.. they arent what they used to be.. 32inch 1080p screen.

You need a bank of blinking lights under that monitor ;-) It would be at home on the bridge of the Enterprise!

  2. . . .

I think the complaint in the woman's section is more about guys impersonating women.

    . . .

You are absolutely correct -- it has been a problem from day one. The Internet, by its very nature, is an anonymous place and some people like to use this anonymity to their own advantage. We have had members masquerade as females because they thought having access to the "For the Girls" forum would allow them an advantage in picking up women. It didn't work because women don't come here to get "picked up" and eventually, as reality dawned on these members, frustration set in and their true identity became known. The result was not pertty. We have had members masquerade as women because of the excitement of "pulling it off". And they did for a while but eventually living a lie gets boring. And they, perhaps subconsciously, make a slip. People really dislike being lied to.

We know that there are a lot of faux "girls" in our membership. We generally don't have proof. Occasionally we do find proof and we confront the affected member but it takes a lot of effort and some luck to make it happen. We don't, after all, require a DNA sample from new members (and even if we did, we have no way to verify that the sample actually came from the member in question).

We hold the view that it is not possible to fully appreciate high heels without considering the female perspective. Women have made it clear that they want a shield from male interference in their forum aned we extend this to them as a courtesy. I think most of us would agree the ladies deserve this courtesy at the very least.

I personally find it quite ironic that a site purporting to support men's equal rights in all things, even has a rule that women only can post in the girls forum but everyone can post in the men's. Seems to me to be supporting gender boundaries.

    . . .

Do you really have an issue with a lady visiting the guys' forum?

The women want a place of their own -- they have made this abundantly clear. Don't they deserve it?

. . . Bottom line is, at some point back when the guys were allowed to post there, most of the women left the site. So the rule was instituted in an effort to stem the mass exodus. At least that's the way I understand it.

    . . .

Your understanding is correct. Guys, in a stunning demonstration of a dearth of self-control, practically overran the girls' forum and the women felt unappreciated if not mildly threatened. So they left.

  3. Welcome back! Yes, the site has changed quite a bit. We had a major software upgrade a while back and in the process we switched over to an entirely different operating system. All (well, virtually all) of the old functionality is there but some of it is in different places or works a bit differently. Further, there is a lot of new stuff too. For further details, explore the Technical and Site-Specific Announcements forums.

  4. In the interest of peace and harmony, I am locking this thread. We are an international forum, some of our members come from societies that do not allow personal ownership of firearms while others come from societies where firearm ownership is allowed. This is a topic that is never going to be settled and from previous experience, this discussion will escalate, get out-of-hand and cause strife.

  5. The (appalling lack of) quality of many of the comments on YouTube will lead one to fear for the future of our species. These cretins seem to have no qualms about letting their ignorance hang out for all the world to see. Expecting any kind of thought, consideration or even decency from such people is futile, that is why so many videos have comments disabled.

  6. They say "never criticize people who buy ink by the barrel". The same goes for people who have, and know how to use, a microphone! Don't hold out much hope for your heckler learning anything though. Such idiots seem to have inordinately thick skulls and not much to fill them.

  7. This is just cute. I saw this in one of the Google ads at the top of this site and had to check it out. The fine folks at 3M have been getting creative, now your Scotch tape can wear heels too!

Here is a link to the page. It appears only the black stiletto and red wedge are available now, with others coming "Real Soon Now".

  8. Well, you might start by just browsing the site. There is a lot of material that pertains to your questions all over this place. You might get to know a few of us too. HHplace is a community of heel afficionados and you just barged in and asked us to help you with your homework. Not the best way to try to make friends. . .

But as a start, it's "high heels". "High hills" are something they have in Kentucky, West Virginia, the Carolinas, out West, in Switzerland and a number of other pretty spots in the world.

  9. You have a *much* bigger priority right now -- recovery. Take it slow, heal, then get back in action. Then evaluate your tolerance for heels. Start conservative and see how it goes -- and pay attention to what your body is telling you. The spine is nothing to trifle with, let it heal at its own pace and don't push it. Misery awaits you otherwise.

  10. Sizes seem to vary a lot, even among different styles from the same brand. Go from one brand to another and sizing may be off by 2 steps! It is a continual problem, we are always going on about it here. The sizing systems seem to be loose guidelines at best. As an example, I have been able to wear an 11 in certain styles and brands while in others a 12 was too tight to even get on my foot! High heels bring an added dimension to the situation because proper fit is absolutely essential in a heel. You just will not get the support you need with a loose fit and a tight fit will leave you in misery. The only good answer, as CRabbit stated, is to try them on before you buy. If you are buying online, deal with a shop that has a generous return policy because chances are better than half you're going to send them back.

  11. Web sites come and Web sites go. Sometimes Webmasters' interests change and they decide to discontinue their site. Sometimes life situations change and Webmasters find they must concentrate on other things -- maintaining a site requires a commitment of money, time and effort. It is unfortunate when a good site goes away but the Internet is a fluid place. You have to enjoy the moment because it may be fleeting.

  12. Greetings Nielle and welcome to HHplace! Merry Christmas and Happy New Year! To address your question, you can adjust a number of preference settings in your User Control Panel. Just under the page header (High Heel Place), you will see a row of tabs (HOME, ARCADE, BLOGS, . . .). Then, just below that you will see some drop-down menus (User CP, FAQ, Community . . .). "User CP" opens your Control Panel. Once you are in your Control Panel, the left-hand side of the screen has a listing of categories you can view and set. You want "Settings and Options" in this case. Once you open "Settings and Options", scroll down and look for "Thread Display Options". Under there, you have "Thread Display Mode" and you can change that from "Linear - Newest First" to "Linear - Oldest First". You may find that you want to change this back at some time in the future. It is entirely under your control. There are a number of other settings you can make here too. Scroll all the way down and click "Save Changes" to save your new settings. Have Fun!
