If your heel skidded sideways then you're not over your heels properly on left to right  direction. Normally skids are induced from too larger a stride and the angle of the heel in front taking weight too soon and a slick surface. A heel should never slip sideways - ever - unless you are turning a tight corner which can cause the inside foot to slide across the body.

There are 2 causes from my experience for sideways heel issues when walking

    1. tiredness or operating at peak of flexibility leads to fast fatigue

    2. the shoe design is not the best it could be

Walk one foot  in front of the other definitely ! Anyone in heels should walk the same. I lead with my hips, especially in my higher heels I use my hips as I walk. It  Never be in a hurry in high heels. Some women never learn to wear high heels well either. I should do a thing on how I wear stilettos because I am always complimented on how I can wear them for so long and how I can walk in heels - every day by women and men.

There are a lot of mis-truths out there that can be put right, and there are easy techniques, and posture that help a lot.

And the whole 'strut' thing is kind of a thing - and yes it can be turned on or off easily, but its not like everyone says it is - it is not a different walk .

Thanks that's very useful advice. I suspect that may be exactly what happened as I think I was walking with too big a stride and was also turning 90 degrees to go out of the door when it happened.

No slips tonight though during the  walk across town wearing my stilettos to where the car was parked.

I would imagine honest practice would get you there - your own natural gait adapting to wearing shoes with heels of a particular height and style. That is what women do. Because we associate heels with women we make the (rather illogical) leap to assuming their gait is somehow 'designed' for wearing heels. They have to learn too. Where it becomes easier is if you have strong and flexible feet and ankles and a good sense of balance - but that would be the same for either sex.

Well my ankles are definitely strong enough and very flexible, think I need more “heel time” . Last night it was good I’m a former gymnast or the displays would have been over, don’t know how I stayed upright!

A feminine gait would be unnatural and probably lead to more slippage and falling.

Yes I can see what you mean but how do you get a happy medium so you don’t end up walking like a robot? I’m finding I can’t walk like I do in flat shoes or it looks and feels terrible. I imagine shorter steps and keeping your feet more in line with the centre of the body would be best?

  4. Yes it was a very close call one foot went straight across the midline of my body from outside to in. I think I was lucky not to fall but managed to correct quickly enough. Casually shrugged it of by commenting to the shop assistant “ that was close “ before calmly walking out accompanied by the sound of the heels. If he hadn’t noticed the stilettos when I went in I’m sure he had by the time I’d left.

I think it was largely my own fault I may have got my left foot past the centre of my body when I put my weight on it. I’m never sure if for a man you should put one foot directly in line with the other like women do.

Id be interested to know do you guys try to walk in stilettos like a woman would or a different technique?

  5. Last couple of nights I’ve visited a couple of shops to get a few things. Last night I filled my car up with fuel and went in to pay. I was wearing my stiletto Chelsea style ankle boots. As I walked out on the very smooth tiled floor I came very close to a disastrous stiletto failure. My left foot suddenly skidded right out and I nearly fell. I managed to regain my balance just in time but it was a close call.

Gosh, that’s a shame. This how much more stylish it would be to wear your boots and have your coffee in a funky cool cafe...

Absolutely, unfortunately things have got in the way this weekend and we have been around the house the entire weekend. Lets hope the week brings more opportunities.

Have you no nice cafes with good coffee up your way?

Plenty but by the time I finish work in the evening they are all shut. It’s a case of calling in wherever is open and the Starbucks is the only coffee shop open on the drive home unfortunately.

    HeeledSteve,

I like your boots and that you've had relaxing experiences wearing them. I am not fan of Starbucks though. Highly overrated coffee from goofy Seattle. There also have been too many incidents here in the USA of young baristas with their rude ideology not serving law enforcement officers or even people wearing a military uniform. To hell with them. The coffee is unremarkable and more expensive than other places serving better. McDonald's serves very inexpensive and good tasting coffee. Maybe there's another coffee choice? HinH

Yes I agree Starbucks isn't my preffered choice. They often use Indonesian coffees which I find have to 'earthy' a taste for my taste, although this is a flavour my Wife really likes, especially their decaf.  So I wouldn't normally visit a Starbucks unless with her. I've been tending to call in because all other coffee shops are closed by the time I'm on my way home.

You have given me an idea with McDonald's though as they are open later so more chance of making a coffee stop. Plus the tiled solid floor would afford the perfect "click " when visiting.

They look great mate, they look slightly higher heeled than 700mm, but a nice shape heel, they’re not dissimilar to my long next boots but an ankle version, think you’ll have a lot of fun in those mate

Yes I know what you mean looking at the photo they look higher than 70mm, might have to do a remeasure. As the old adage goes "measure twice cut once"

I have had gel colored nails for over a year now. They need to be exquisite at all times and mine are in the top 5%. Currently dark blue with ombre silver sparkle tips. I got 2 comments on them yesterday cosmetology professionals and another one this morning. It took me many years to allow myself fingernail polish (gel) and I love it.

I’m very comfortable wearing nail polish but they have to look really good and because I’ve not worn it recently my hands haven’t been looked after. Consequently there is a bit of work to do before I can use polish. Darker colours are my preferred choice but wouldn’t be able to wear it at work. So as it’s a weekend thing gel wouldn’t offer any benefit, only ever worn gel on holiday periods.

Your outings are always visually interesting as the look with the heels is invariably  masculine, natural and understated. Nice

Thanks, yes that's the look I'm trying to achieve apart from the boots everything else is traditionally masculine clothing. The only other thing I would add is nail polish on my hands. However my nails aren't in good enough shape to carry this off at present. Ive attached one more photo from today.1485650701_RalphLauren3.thumb.JPG.9e6ba85141cb8669f5e96bae73fd14ed.JPG

  12. Tonights excursion was wearing my new Ralph Lauren ankle boots with the 70mm block heel, although from the back they do have a taper to the heel. Called in for fuel on the drive home, did some shopping in a convinience store then for coffee. As I suspected they are pretty quiet to wear although of course the heel is noticeable. I actually found walking in them less natural than a higher stiletto heel which is odd, so more practice required.

Yeah go for it mate, you’re sporting some really good looks there to be honest and pulling it off with a lot of natural confidence, keep it up mate

To be honest last few times I’ve gone out in heels I’ve worn the stilettos. I also fancy wearing the cone heels as well but the wet weather will mark the suede (well faux suede actually) according to my Wife.

Im probably going to wear the new Ralph Lauren boots as they are leather with a 70mm heel, unfortunately they don’t seem like they will have much of a “click” to them, they seem very  quiet. The stilettos are a very distinctive sound, which is much more obvious. All my heels seem more noisy than the Ralph Lauren’s but until I wear them on a variety of surfaces it’s impossible to say for sure.

we are probably going to have a meal in a restaurant sometime soon,  finances permitting. I’m thinking the other Ecco stilettos would  look just right for that paired with black chinos.

  14. Went into town to collect the new Ralph lauren boots. One shop visit made me smile because as I walked in accompanied by the noise of the heels I noticed an advert for an online delivery service named "click".  My Wife an I then went for a burger at the nearby Burger King before heading home .

  15. A quick trip to Starbucks last night  for an espresso on the way home. The shop was busier than normal for that time in the evening. Quite a few people sitting around as I walked in. I was wearing my stiletto "chelsea boot " with the 100mm heel, paired with jeans. Casually and confidently joined the queue and had to wait there for ages as there was only one member of staff who already had a backlog of orders.. I got chatting to the woman waiting in front of me. In the end I'd waited so long the barista said the coffee was on the house. Enjoyed the coffee before leaving and walking to the car to head home.

Sadly I didn't get home in time to stop for coffee tonight but with the weekend coming up I'm sure there will be some opportunities plus my new  Ralph Lauren boots are in store ready for collection so I should be able to collect them sometime Saturday.

    What about these?

    IMG_0605.JPG

Definitely like them but no good for me I wouldn't be able walk in a heel that height. Like the shape and the heel but I would certainly need to have a lower heel.

    Maninboots

I know what you mean variety is a good thing but I'm just not sure I would wear my most recent boots  with that toe shape. The heel height is good but I'm just wondering if getting something with a similar heel but less pointed I might get much more use out of them

Just picked up a short stiletto heeled, 70mm ankle boot with a lace up front and side zip in black faux suede. They have a pointed toe which \i've not had before. They look ok and my Wife likes them on me so that's very important. My Wife has just ordered me a pair of Ralph Lauren black leather ankle boots, these have a 70mm heel with a tapered block sole and zips up both sides.. I will post some photos when I get a chance.

A couple of photos of the new heels , I think they would look better with black jeans rather than demin so I think that's what I will pair with them.

Just to clarify these are the faux suede boots and not the Ralph Lauren, haven't got those yet.
