  1. Its not always in speech that PC pokes its nose in. Here in Oz, so as not to 'upset' females who deliver the post, officially, instead of postman, they are to be referred to as Postal Delivery Officers. (This comes direct from the mouth of an ex-Postal Delivery Officer). The man collecting the garbage is a Garbage Disposal Officers. The list goes on. ChairMAN cannot be used, the correct term is either Chair or Chairperson. Even the simple cover to the water, electricity mains is longer a MANhole cover but an Underground Pit Inspection cover. What a load of crap. I must say I disagree with most of this PC rubbish. Maybe someone should come up with a PC term for the politicians and public servants who come up with these terms. I think 'Idiots' would aptly describe them.

  2. heels_are_me. Where are you. My earlier comment and another from a South Oz writer seems to disagree. I like the comment of jetheels fan and totally agree. I recall the times, the late 60's, when a man had to be wearing at least a jacket and tie to get into a 'club' and many insisted that a female had to be a wearing a skirt. This will sound very strange to the younger generations, but we took it as a necessity and never queried it. I worked in a factory and nearly all the fifty or so females wore heels to and from work (safety reasons meant flats while working). Oh yes for the days when men were men and females were something to be admired and drooled over once the age of about seventeen (yes seventeen) was achieved and one began to understand that females were something else apart from men with lumps on their chests. I don't think that the shoes of the 60's would have been more comfortable than those of todays as manufacturing techniques must have improved the design. I think the main reasons many women do not wear heels are that they are in too much of a hurry to get everywhere and therefore cannot walk in the slower manner demanded by heels and, that with their mother not having worn heels, have never been taught the correct manner of walking in them as I recall being told by women friends that their mother did for them.

  3. I have not been watching them. For one thing, with the nine hour time difference, many of the events take place in the middle of the night in Australia. In my opinion no teams sports should be included as most of these have their own 'World Championships'. Also the games have become too commercialised and I feel that too many 'also rans' get to participate. As I understand things, in the 'origina' games in Greece it was the different states 'champions' who took part. Perhaps this should be applied these days, each countries CHAMPION at each event the only competitor from that country.

  4. I was in Las Vegas while on holiday recently and I can tell you that just about every third woman who walked past you was wearing wedges, some very high. High stilettoes were also very, very popular and looked great with short, tight skirts (perhaps that's because I am a dirty old man!!)

  5. I think I was a teenager, way back in the late 50's, when the large majority of women seemed to, to my recollection these days, wear high heels. I recall that at the printing works where I began my working life there were around fifty girls/women in the binding department and all wore heels, to and from work at least (heels were banned in the factory on safety grounds) of at least two inches.
