I found today that the uppers on my Pleaser Flair 2010 4.5" heel platform boots were separating from the platform at the back of the heel. I noticed it because one of them was making a noise when I walked. Has anyone else experienced this? I used Super Glue to try to glue them back together, but haven't tried them, yet.

If the platform is a unit with the heel, then it is cast or injection molded plastic, and would have no reinforcement. I doubt gluing would approach the strength of the original unit. I have had two pairs of low platform slide crack/break at the back of the sole where the platform turns up through the arch area. They were the old Sunset Strip design which are still sold some places, and are thinner than Pleasers or Ellies in this area. They got tossed.

Is this a trend that the guys will adopt?

I don't want to know how much I spent!

Everyone wore those in the 50s or 60s (don't remember, exactly). The young girls (my age, then) would wear them at work, always barefoot, and flaunt them around the guys. If you ever saw Perry Mason (Raymond Burr) on TV in the original black and white programs, his secretary Della Street wore them.

At least they go up to 12, but if you need 14 like me, you are out of luck for stylish boots.

Most people I know shop for quality, within the range of what they can afford. But, there are many less informed people who buy cheap junk. Many tech items from electronics to automobiles are designed for easy and inexpensive manufacturing, not for easy or inexpensive repairs. Look at automobiles with their integrated headlight or tail light assemblies - no lens replacements there. Minimum labor cost to assemble, maximum cost to replace, as repair is out of the question. Not too many people work on their auto engines any more since everything is computerized and controlled to reduce emissions, maximize fuel mileage, etc. I used to do maintenance, tuneups, and even rebuilds, but not now. The trend to mega-centers and megastores gives people choices and lower prices than trying to find things around town in small shops, and the convenience has paid off, in general. I do miss our local hardware store, though, for it's convenience, but it is nice to find things at Home Depot that I wouldn't have any idea how to find if it wasn't for them (such as ceiling panels for lighted ceilings). I do notice some reduction in choice in high heels, I think, as the large sizes have been pretty much taken over by Pleaser and maybe Ellie. Not too many competitors to them, which is disappointing. Is that an area where the Internet has driven out the local stores?
-
Because some of the online stores charge more for sizes over 12, which is their way to gouge more from customers who have less choice of where to go. There are other online places that don't charge extra and generally have lower prices, too. Those are the ones I would use.

I think it is pretty much inevitable that high heels will get worn or damaged much faster - look at the construction. Your flat trainers or other male-type shoes have big soles that often stick out beyond the uppers. The large area covers surface holes and imperfections without harm and means load per square inch is low. The edges hit things before the uppers, to the shiny surface is protected to some extent. High heels, particularly stilettos, have smaller footprint areas resulting in higher loads and faster wear. Non-platforms often have thin soles, also. All the soles tend to be either the same as or narrower than the uppers, so the uppers come into contact sideways or toe first. The heels are particularly highly loaded so the tips wear more quickly, and the small tip area is prone to finding cracks and holes in the walking surface, not to mention sinking into soft ground. Graceful high heels are generally made for looks, not for practicality, so we are probably stuck with the wear and tear until impervium or protective force fields are developed.

Shoe - the Fanfair 501 5" wedge platform sandals from Lucious (Pleaser) or Tony Shoes are about the most comfortable shoes I have. Haven't found any boots I could fit into.

I believe the seatback instructions say to remove heels before going down the slide. That's a good reason to not wear them on an airplane - don't want to be barefoot running across the ground.
-
But they only go up to size 11. There isn't much available that's stylish at 14.

Snaz75 has 20% off through Dec. 1st. Code: "Black" Beverly Heels is 10% off through Nov. 30th. Code: "Nov2008"

Yes, I think she is fairly small so they aren't as high as in our sizes.

Wow. 4 blocks can be a looong way in Vegas! The hotel properties are so big that even NYNY to the MGM Grand is a moderate distance across the bridge - a very wide street.

5' 8" is the perfect height, and heels go well in addition to that, as high as you want, in my opinion. Being 6' 2" myself, I think you are just the right size!

California has still voted it's bias against gay and lesbians, unfortunately. But it is time to be proud of the USA today after 8 years of shame under the current administration.

I thought 108 was a lot! No, she doesn't know about mine and I haven't told her. Maybe some day. I don't buy many any more because I don't wear the ones I have enough to get use out of them, except for a couple which are getting beat up some.

Well, the dreams came true, didn't they?

I was talking to a new dance partner today, a really beautiful 28 yr. old girl, and she was showing me her very worn dance shoes and saying she needed some new ones. She said she is a shoe freak and has 108 pairs of shoes, from trainers to very high heels and sexy shoes! Beats me!

My stash of Nikon 35mm cameras hasn't been used in years now. I use pocket Kodaks, one with 6MP and one with 12MP. They do great video for dance choreography and are so small I always have one in my dance bag. I also have a Kodak Z712 - 7MP and 12:1 optical zoom! All have Schneider lenses and 8x10 prints are great.

My favorites are mostly old, also: Aerosmith Air Supply Beach Boys (a band?) Beatles BeeGees Cheap Trick Creedence Clearwater Revival ELO Glenn Miller Lynyrd Skynyrd Mike Henebry Orchestra (1930s-40s swing) Oingo Boingo REO Speedwagon Currently Rilo Kiley, but mostly for Jenny, the singer. I like "The Frug" especially.

Shoes USA has wooden ones listed as wedges - Avast and Annika models plus more. Rather expensive at around $200.

No picture here, but the January 2nd swimsuit ad from Net-A-Porter.com lists one of the accessories for their Caribbean cut-out one piece swimsuit as "towering heels."
