  1. Hi all, Okay, I don't think I turned a single head. But then I know them all and they know me. But I did look classy. I still do. because I haven't changed yet. And I feel WONDERFUL. And this with just a pair of black boots. Sharon, you've got to find me some coloured ones. It's too late for a bath tonight, but tomorrow. Regards, Megan

  2. http://http://www.shoezone.com/Womens-Boots/Womens-Buckle-Trim-High-Leg-Wedge-Boot-in-Black/18246Hi Sharon (and everyone else),

Your advice about Shoe Zone really paid off. I can't thank you enough. The £50 I found in my account was an annual dividend from one of the markets I sometimes sell at, so I went to Shoe Zone yesterday as you suggested and found just what I'd thought I had in mind. I wonder if I can work out how to show them to you. Something's happened, but I don't know if it's worked. Anyway, they had my size and I got two pairs just like you suggested. I'm really happy. I'm going to wear them tonight with my marroon jersey dress again, and black opaques. I hope I'll look classy and maybe turn a head or two.

    Regards, Megan x

  3. Hi All, Thank you Sharon for your advice, both shoe-wise and financial. I know the money stuff. As it happens, I'm up in front of the beak next week for Council tax. Been there, done that. I don't think I owe it this time, though. We'll see. I'm sure we've got a Shoe Zone here. I thought it was just cheap school shoes, so I've never been in. I'll be in there tomorrow. We have a little independent shop called Shoe Shuffle. Not very good for heels, but I bet they could be persuaded.. They had some pink calf length DMs with red hearts on and a two inch heel, but they were size six. We also have a very good shoe reparer. If you catch them in time, for £20 you can put two years on a pair. Never quite the same though. Buying more than one pair is a brilliant idea. Like with all the best ideas, I can't believe I didn't think of it. Sangue, I don't know what the pound is to the dollar these days. I grew up believing £1 = about $2. I imagine that's hopelessly out of date. I imagine it was hopelessly out of date when I believed it. Once upon a time a, dollar was English slang for five shillings. Sharon and Jane aren't even old enough to remember shillings. Oh dear, I sound like my mum. Anyway, point was, twenty shillings to a pound, so used to be four dollars to a pound. How the mighty have fallen. Or risen. Or perhaps it's just a load of tosh, and shoes are what matters. I think that's probably most likely. Sharon, my underwear is all cotton. Like I said, it's been a few years. But perhaps I should push the boat out for myself. Boots first, though, I think. You're turning me into quite the scarlet woman. Regards, Megaan x

  4. Hi all, Sharon, not my best weekemd of the year. I decided to cheer myself up with a bath. I wore my maroon jersey dress, black opaques and my cowboy boots. The boots were fun. The water was only just deep enoughn to fill them, so I felt the trickle. I stood for a long time letting them fill up before I sat down It felt lovely to feel the water trickiling in. I do feel happpier, but should I? I found £50 in my account that shouldn't be there. I'm going to buy some shoes or boots with it. I'm going to be on the high street. Any recommendations or guesses on what I might get? Megan

  5. Sangue, it took three days. I thought at the time it could have been worse. Did you get to your lecture on time? Have you ever thought of doing a marathon in stillettos? Just watching news of Whitney Houston dying. And they're already talking about her like they did Amy Winehouse. "Oh it will have been drugs etc." Pompous journalists, ha! I went out tonight, and I wore my maroon jersy figure hugging dress again. I wore black opaques, and my flat mid calf slouch boots. I thought I looked pretty good, but I do want to try more heel. I haven't seen anything that I like or anything that I can afford on the high street. Do you girls get all your shoes off the internet? Megan

  6. :wavey: Sangue, Oh dear, I'm mortified that I came across to you as trying to be snide. I meant to use a British phrase ironically to imply that we British are often not as internationally minded as we should be. QED. I should have been more aware of who I was writing to. Please forgive me for any unintended offence, and Heidi too. As you may have gathered from earlier posts, I struggle with the computer in English. Megan
  7. Hi Sangue, You post will have come through while I was composing mine. I should have waited. Minnesota, I can place you now. So the sea isn't a big part of your life, though you do have Lake Superior. Does that look like the sea? You didn't tell us which of the boots you fancied. I can't guess, though I'd like to know, as I suspect anything that looks good on you might sit well on me. Then I need to meet a friendly shoemaker who'll make them for me. Since I gave up work and went self employed my income is, shall we say, erratic, so I appreciate your financial situation as a student. I find the prices on the websites eyewatering. Megan

  8. Hi everyone Heidi. your outfit sounds wonderful. You must have blown them away on stage. What did you sing? Yes, I've been watching my daughter perform since she was eleven. As she got older and better they used to ask her to support some of the younger players. She found it tiresome sometimes. but I told her a lot of the best musicians are session musicians. Look through your albums and the same names come up over and again. The best was a few months ago when she played solo and had a whole orchestra backing her, in a lovely hall with great acoustics. I was so proud and weepy, especially when everyone stood up and applauded, but she thought nothing of it. I did dress up, but I'm afraid I can't remember what I wore. I struggle with cold feet, but I can't keep my boots on indoors as I have people who live below me and I don't think it would be very fair. But I made myself some indoor boots out of an old duvet and some old curtains. I quilted two layers of duvet between the curtain fabric and made some calf length moccasin boots out of it. They look ridiculous, but they are very warm, just like my feet are in bed. Quebec? You're certainly getting around. I'm surprised you don't do French. I thought you continental types could speak anything. Though I must admit, I came across a Polish chappy in the summer and he couldn't understand my (dreadful) German or my (even worse) Russian. I was surprised, I thought Poles would be able to speak almost anything. But you do write excellent English. We English seem to expect Germans (and Dutch) to speak English, because they normally do. I've only been to Germany once, to Stuttgart, and I was delighted to have to speak in German. I was with the same boyfriend as New York, and he only spoke English. I have very fond memories of Stuttgart. Regards, Megan

  9. Hi all My son took me up to the quiz tonight. I think he feels I need looking after, bless him. I felt very proud having such a nice young man with me, but I'm biased. He's just been up to the city where my daughter is at university. So good for a mother to hear her daughter was 'trolleyed' (his word), but at least she went home with as much money as she went out with, and they took her home in a taxi. At least the boys look after her. Up to a point, Lord Copper lol. The girl whose dress I coveted last week was there, but she was wearing jeans. I don't covet them. Because we went up in his car I didn't have to dress so warm. I still had 300 denier tights and a pair of socks, my black, flat slouch (I've just learnt the word) boots, a knee length black skirt and my bottle green roll neck sweater. I wore my current favourite coat and a long stripey scarf that I knit myself, but only outdoors those two. I don't think my son was embarrassed to be with me. Sharon, I thought as much, just a good line. I doubt it would work for me when I'm on the streets lol. I saw the knitted boots Sangue was talking about. Look to me like a way to sell you ankle boots with expensive legwarmers attached. I could do that for you cheap with a bit of glue. Sangue, I think if you're going to buy boots, buy boots. I went musseling today, but I'm ashamed to say I kept as dry as I could. It was so cold, and I thought I'd freeze before I got home. I thought my hands were going to drop off, they were so blue. I wear two earrings in one ear and one in the other. I found a special one missing today, and I'm still a bit tearful at its loss. I hope I might find it in my bed, but I doubt it :'( Still, there we go. Megan x

  10. Hi Sangue, I really like the Colin Stuart over the knee platform boot on page one, the one with the studs round. Of course I would find 5" quite impossible, and I suspect it would ruin the styling to take 2 inches off. Hey ho. Megan

  11. Hi Everyone, My internet just crashed as I was posting, so here goes again. Sangue, thank you for the pictues. I think that jacket is a bit too masculine for me, though I did always used to wear my fringed jacket on days when I had playground duty. Fringes get you noticed, and children are impressed by that kind of thing. I think you got the sound of us a bit wrong. We'd go clipclop clipclop padsquelchpadsquelch clip squelchclip squelch pad pad pad etc. Thank you, too, for your advice. I think I agree with Sharon here though. I think a snug black knee high boot might elongate my legs. Think I'm still more tempted by a wedge with a bit of platform, though, rather than a block heel. Three inches can be quite a challenge for me. And I can still wear coloured opaques and other coloured shoes. Sharon, Have you ever seen Pretty Woman, where Julia Roberts character says she can wrap eighty inches of leg around him? Eighty inches!? With three legs I still couldn't reach that. Anyway, my legs haven't really been seen for years. Not much to show. I don't complain, though, as the things that people envy us for are rarely unconditional blessings, like for you buying jeans, I'm sure. For me it's my hair. I've got masses of red hair, which I've never cut or done anything to. I suppose it is quite striking, but I'm not so fond of it when I wash it. I've got green eyes too. My dad used to say it was the look of Celtic princess. I don't know about that, but it's starting to show signs of needing help and I don't know whether to, or whether to let it take its course. I guess your legs won't ever get shorter. Neither will mine for that matter lol. Heidi, I'm so keen to know how your performance went at the weekend. Hope to hear from you all soon, Regards Megan

  12. Hi Sharon, I should come clean and admit that I thought they were actual pictures of your boots too. I can see looking at the pictures again that they obviously aren't. I feel a tad foolish lol. 33 inches, gosh. That's nine more than me! I guess we wont be buying boots from the same place. Anyway, after feeling a bit disheartened looking at Sangue's link the other day I've decided I'm going to put my eye about and find myself some knee high boots, perhaps three inch wedges with a bit of a platform. I feel I'm trailing in you girls' wake, so I need to woman up and join you. I suspect I may be in for a bit of a search, but I'll keep you posted. It sounds a bit silly, but it feels quite empowering to have made a decision to change the habit of a lifetime. Not having worn anything like that before, I wonder if I could ask your advice. It might not be an issue that comes up, but do you think I'd do better to stick with black or brown rather than indulging my usual love of colour? Look forward to hearing from you again soon, Regards, Megan

  13. Hi everyone, Heidi, how exciting about your jam session. Singing on tour! Did it go well, and what did you wear in the end? What did you sing? My daughter's a saxophonist, and she's just starting to get gigs that pay. She says it's a wonderful feeliing, to play in front of paying customers. I guess you must know that feeling. I'm a very poor musician. I can make a horrible noise on half a dozen instruments. Sharon, I really enjoyed the pictures of your boots. They were exactly what I'd imagined you in. I wish I could wear something like that. You must have legs that go all the way to the ground. Have you got wet in all of them? Sangue, yes, fringes, I'm afraid. I'm a bit of a wannabe Pocahontis. I have a suede jacket with foot long fringes down the sleeves, which I'm very fond of, but you'll be glad to know lives in my wardrobe these days. Oh, god, imagine me in that jacket with my cowboy boots. I could be in a wild west show. Megan

  14. Hi Sangue, I followed your link and saw the boots. They look fabulous. I saw a pair I loved on the website, not heels I admit, but it's indicative. They were Minnetonka, I think it was, three layered fringed boots. And they're red. I'm so easily swayed by fringes. Have they got them in my size? Well take a guess. So I fed my size in and looked to see what was available. Apparently I can buy Ugg boots. I did see some shoes I loved. Ed Hardy Marion Wedge. Yes I could wear them, but the red is too staid. I'd like them in a really good colour. But I can see myself wearing them, even though they're peep-toe. If I've got coloured shoes, I think black opaques can look ok with peep-toes. Doesn't help me buy boots though. My son took me out up to the social club tonight, with his girlfriend. She's lovely, they're both good for each other, but anyway. There was a birthday party there, one of the girls is 21. Anyway, it snowed, (it was forecast) and one of the girls had these shoes, five inch heels, leopard print, open toes. Most of the other girls seemed to have boots to change in to. I was well clad in boots, tights and socks.. I hope she was ok. It made me think of you, Sangue. You brave open toes in the snow, don't you? Have you ever thought of polar exploration? You'd be good with your medical background, and you'd be the most stylish person to get to the pole lol. Regards, Megan

  15. Hi Sangue, I expect it's sadly more common than you'd think. In Britain there's a thing about 'Essex girls'. Oh, God, if I were to worry about what people thought of me, I couldn't get up in the morning. Believe yourself to be the fine person you are, and enjoy your heels. Megan

  16. Hi Sangue I see you're on line. I'm awake for no good reason. Do you really find heels make you feel taller? Shouldl I bite the bullet and try them instead of looking and longing? I saw some shoes today, red patent, ankle strap, 4" heels. So beautiful, and so no good for me. They won't have them in my size any way. How do you get shoes to fit? Megan

  17. Hi Sharon, Actually, I've got them wet indoors and out. The first time was just after I bought them. I loved the look of them, but they were very uncomfortable, and I'd heard you should soak them and wear them wet, so I did, after wetting them in the bath. As I say, I think it worked. I have also walked through a stream and had the water spilll over the top of them. The first time I needed the leather to get completely soaked, but since, I'd rather get the water out before the leather's completely wet. I like my feet wet rather than my boots. They're quite thick leather and can take a long time to dry, so I don't really want to get them wet at the moment. Today I saw a thing on the TV about bunions and high heels. There were some very brave women who showed their feet. I can only feel blessed. I don't like my feet because they're so small, but my toes are the right size, I could be a foot model if it weren't for the toe I broke when I stubbed it against the wardrobe. And the size of them.. One of the women had heels that were higher than my feet are long, or so it seemed. They were all covered in jewels, not real, I know. But that's why I wish. Hope you're keeping warm. Regards, Megan

  18. Hi Sharon and Heidi (and everyone), I may be little, but I'm tough. You just put a lot of clothes on. I grew up like this. You're right, though, Sharon, I should be better organised. Heidi's right too. Lots of hot chocolate and soup. Anyway, I got a bottle today, so I'm toasty warm again. Thank you for your concern. I've been thinking about you, Sharon. It's much harder where you are. I actually quite like the cold, because I love to wrap up. OK, last night was a bit over the top, but I love coats and scarves and gloves and hats. So much potential to be stylish. Yes, my cowboy boots have exactly the heels you say. They have had a few wettings. I love that I have to take them off and pour the water out. They're very comfortable, probably because I've worn them wet and had them dry on me. They don't often get an outing, because I've persuaded myself I wear flats. This may be changing, thanks to you. It's sad to leave a nice pair of boots in the cupboard, isn't it? Decision made, they can stay out and get the use they deserve. Heidi, yes it was tight having so much hosiery. None of them were thick, or I don't think I'd have got my boots on. But you do seem to walk with a more confident step. Is this a hidden confidence that we could pass on? No-one can see, but if you put more socks on you'll feel like you rule the world, and you will. Regards, Megan

  19. Hi Heidi (and everyone)' Like Sharon says, thanks for your concern. I think it's cold here, but when I went out today I thought of Sharon, who must be getting it harder than any of us. My gas bottle for my heater ran out (perfect timing). It's about 8C in my home. I can get a new one tomorrow. So I went out to my quiz tonight, knowing it would be warm there. I wore a pleated wool skirt, a thin sweater, a thick roll neck sweater, big scarf, my duffel coat, a stylish (I think) knitted beret, three pairs of opaques, two pairs of socks, one knee lengthed and striped, and my cowboy boots. I must have looked like a little girl playing hide and seek in a jumble sale! There was a girl there tonight wearing a dress I coveted - a thick jersey dress, figure hugging, with Mexican style geometric designs in stripes. But for once, I beat her for heels, as mine were 2" and she was in flats. Regards, Megan

  20. Hi Sangue, just got up to check my dough and delighted to find your post. Oh, please don't think I'm an expert. SOME experience is about the truth of it. Yes, there are some lovely yarns around, lovely to knit with and to wear, though they don't come cheap. Best bet is to go into a small specialist shop and ask. They're usually very enthusiastic and helpful. Have you ever knit before? Socks (or stockings if you keep going) are not a bad place to start because you can get a circular needle, cast on an uneven number (if I remember right) and just keep going, especially if you're not worried about a heel I don't know how fine a stocking you could knit though. Probably more like above the knee socks. But with some practice you could knit pretty lacy patterns. You've got me interested. I'm going to have to get out some of my old books and try it again. I could maybe even sell them in the market. Regards, Megan

  21. Hi Sharon My boots have always been mid calf at most, since I always wear my skirt just below the knee, and they've always been pull on. I think I am going to try a shorter skirt and maybe some knee high boots though. I think it might look right after all, although it's not easy to change a look you've always had. So I can look forward to the zip experience:) Even without a zip, the water will seep through the leather eventually, but I can't normally wait that long. I do wear wellies some times. Before you get too shocked, I sometimes go and collect mussels off the rocks, and the rocks are too harsh on nice shoes. My wellies are only about 8" to the top, so you can imagine they're not exactly useful for staying dry. They feel quite different from other shoes when they get filled with water, as it doesn't soak in at all and sloshes about. I don't feel so conspicuous getting my feet wet if I look like I'm dressed for what I'm doing. I do wear old clothes for that, but still always a skirt and tights. I don't own any trousers or jeans. Maybe that's a habit for me to change too. What do you think? Regards, Megan
