I have a pair of stiletto boots (with metal heel tips, FWIW) and one of the tips has come off while wearing them. The pin has sheared flush with the metal tube, and the heel has worn down by a couple of milimetres around it. I'm not really interested in trying to repair it myself; I'm more wondering whether this kind of repair (particularly extracting the sheared pin) is something fairly routine that my local Timpsons would be able to handle fine, or if I need to find a more specialist repairer? Thanks in advance for any advice, R.

Hi Gothbound and welcome to HHP, Yes good cobblers will be able to do this for you, you wont be the first or last with this sort of problem, just don't wear them any more until they're fixed. Certainly Timpsons (UK Chain of High street repair shops) should be well equipped to do the job. Maybe our resident experts will explain what will be done to your heels. Do let us know about your footwear, point us at pics and so on and tell us more about where and when you wear them. Simon

Are you confusing me with someone who gives a damn?

Hi gothbound Thighboots2 is quite correct, this is repair is "Very Routine" & all in a days work for a cobbler. I would say that it is a 50/50 split between shoes that come in with a nice "easy" to remove pin & shoes like yours that have gone just a bit to far! Timpson will repair these with no problems, so to will any independent repairer who works for him self & may offer that "something" extra in customer service. Lee

Repair Reuse Recycle. Cobbler it.

Thanks for the replies. I fully agree with supporting independent traders, but I'm afraid Timpsons wins as being the only shoe repairer here with a convenient high street location. Anyway, Timpsons repaired the boots without difficulty, and indeed incredibly quickly. Thanks, R.
