JL
This was just on one of the NYC News stations (WABC TV). -------------snip------------- The comfort of sneakers in high heels Eyewitness News (New York - WABC, March 21, 2007) - If you're in the market for some fun spring high heels, you may not have to sacrifice fashion for comfort. Sneaker technology is now being used in high heels to make them more comfortable, though some question if it helps enough. Sade Baderinwa has more. High heels. Really high heels...are all the rage. But, oh the aching feet. "It gets so bad you feel like you have blisters on the bottom of your feet," one woman said. "It hurts," said another. "You look fashionable, but its not so comfortable." Beyond the discomfort, there can be a higher price to pay. More women wearing higher heels means more serious foot problems. Just ask podiatrist Dr. Bryan Markinson. "It would be fair to say that we are seeing problems related to this type of footwear on a more frequent basis," he said. But could there be a solution? The Cole Haan shoe company has teamed up with Nike to create shock absorbing high heels. The air-cushioned platforms and flexible insoles don't tax your joints as much as regular heels. "Women are obviously going to continue to want to wear a great pair of heels, but they managed to incorporate the technology of the comfort zone of a sneaker into a heel," said Avril Graham, of Harper's Bazaar. We asked some Harper's staffers to give them a test run. "They look great and they're very comfortable," one employee said. "The soles are very soft, and when you walk you can feel it," said another. But Dr. Markinson says that while cushioning can take some stress off the front of the foot, heels that high will always pose a problem. "The heel height is really key in terms of the mechanics of the foot and normal walking," he said. "It just wasn't designed for such a high heel." Still, Graham welcomes the new heels and says it shows that manufacturers are finally feeling our pain and responding. "The great thing is that it's now being recognized," she said." "And somebody is doing something about it to make us feel a little more comfortable and secure in what we wear." Cole Haan also uses the cushioning in lower heels and flats, if that's your preference. ---------------------------------------------- Here's the link to the shoes!!! Firefox
Some nice styles, but at on average £150+ a pair, I don't think many will be partaking. If you want gel insoles there are many retrofit products that provide a better value option.
